This place is amazing, if you want to get away from it all then this is the place.They have made a big effort to ensure your stay is comfortable which is important, especially in a part of New Zealand where the environmental conditions can be rather hostile.
I love the small extra's like the salt and pepper, handy towels and insect repellent they have their for you to use.
The hot water tank is small so don't muck around with your showers.
I did find the instructions from the owner to be rather aggressive though so they might want to tone this down a bit, you can push your message across in a more subtle way

Do your own dishes
You will be charged extra if you leave a mess
You will be charged extra if you don't clean the BBQ

Access to the beach is a bit of a hike, and you will have to tramp across a small marsh area and you will get wet.

Besides that it was beautiful and worth it

Situated in Barrytown, 30 minutes drive from Greymouth a beautiful stretch of quiet country road surrounded by native bush this remote location offers privacy and relaxing unwind.
Check in and check out has been easy as per owner instructions. Great guest information provided with details needed.
We stayed only one night but wish we could make it base for travel around.
Kitchen was well equipped, gas bbq outside was very handy after our long day. Needs to be cleaned before you leave, as we do at home.
Bed was big and comfy, bathroom large and well orginised. There was hot tub and fire pit for cosy night, if someone preferes it.
This place was very clean and should be left clean as per request.
I would like to stay another night or two if in area again.
We have enjoyed our stay.

Stayed here for a long weekend with my boyfriend and my dog.
The location is nice and quiet, set back far enough away from the road. It was nice and quiet and well equipped. My dog really liked the grounds, even toilet time needed to become a leash walk and sniff. The hot tub was really lovely and has skylights that would be great for a view of the stars (pity we had overcast weather all long weekend) and a large window that looks across the bush to the beach.
Would definitely recommend.

If you're looking to stay in the Punaki/Pancake Rocks area and want a perfect place for couples or families, stay at the Beach Hideaway Resort in Barrytown. This is by far the best accommodation we had in NZ.

The secluded cabins are brand new, completely furnished with all the latest appliances including a program-able fireplace, dish TV, W/D, and an outdoor screen-enclosed spa. There's also a firepit for toasting marshmellows (they even provided the marshmellows!), picnic table, an outdoor game board (can't remember the name of the game...) and of course, the beach just in front of the property ...

We stayed in the two-bedroom cabin (there's also a one-bedroom) and just hated to leave. The owners are friendly, accommodating people who live just down the road in Barrytown, and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable.

If you're in the area, I highly recommend Beach Hideaway. Since there are only two cabins, you'll probably want contact them to reserve.

Very reasonable pricing for the product.

Stayed in the two bedroom in November 2015 with my family. The basin shattered in the middle of the night 10:30pm and I immediately tried to make contact with the owner but got no answer then several calls more an just got the answer phone so I texted him. A night for $165 ended up being a grand total of wait for it $615 dollars in total could of stayed at a 5 star hotel for that price. Extra $450 for the vanity that I never damaged. Contact with the owner has been very slack actually appalling. Who only cares about his business not his customers. I guess he charged me for his excess with his insurance he tried to blame my children or that we left the water running or even suggested we dropped something on it which caused it to shatter. I have no proof from the assessors that it was the cause. Owner also reckons that it's very unheard of but however I work in a hotel and glass does shatter tempered glass or not it does it is 6 years old the owner told me but "nothing lasts forever". I advise anyone/everyone be aware of that place.

One of the worst customer experiences of my life, what an unhelpful, rude, obnoxious organisation. Topped off with an unauthorised withdrawal from my bank account...this matter is currently being investigated.
I am surprised they are still in business with such a terrible attitude

We booked Beach Hideaway after reading positive reviews on Trip Adviser (April 13). We were attracted by the setting and condition of the chalets, along with the lure of a hot tub for our 3 kids. Either the Management has changed or practice has deteriorated significantly - we were really disappointed by our experience.

Our family of five had to take the 1bed chalet as the 2bed was booked but were assured there was sufficient bedding and space, and we duly paid the additional surcharge of $10 per child. I also booked 4x "Self Catering Cooked Breakfasts" as a surprise for the kids.

The chalet was clean, but dusty and smelt like someone had been cooking fish. The place had not been aired. The additional bedding consisted of a pull out double couch and a rollaway bed, both with very thin foam mattress and not very comfortable. There was inadequate cutlery or crockery for 5 people despite our prior booking. We were told on arrival by management (not at the time of booking) that there was a leak in the hot tub, so it had been filled with cold water but "should be hot by the evening". The hot tub did not heat during our stay and the kids did not get a spa. It was cold and rained most of the evening and early morning so this added to the kid's disappointment of not being to have a hot spa.

The biggest disappointment however were the breakfasts which consisted of two boxes filled with pretty questionable produce, frozen bacon and sausages, UHT powdered milk, small cans of spaghetti and baked beans, frozen nasty white bread, basic spreads, tiny hashbrown and standard supermarket eggs (two signs within 100ms of the cottages advertised fresh farm eggs). No coffee or fruit juice. As we had been pre-charged $92 (and had to cook and clean up after ourselves) I rang management to seek a refund. Mike, the Manager's main concern was the effort they had made to put the boxes together and not that the produce was of poor quality. They came and collected the rejected breakfast boxes, but I am still waiting on an apology or a refund of $92. My advice is to fully check out whether the amenities are functional and ask what food you will get with the breakfast option. In the end, we drove down to DP1 in Greymouth and had 5 x cooked breakfasts, 3 x fresh fruit smoothies and 2 café coffees for $100 ($8 more).

What a lovely place to stay, close to the main highway easily located but nicely secluded and very quiet, beach in walking distance;
We stayed in the larger of the two properties, it was very comfortable and well equipped, kitchen has full cooking facilities, good size sitting room, comfortable beds with plenty of room for 4 people, outside there is a verandah with seating, BBQ, Hot Tub and a Fire Pit, would love to stay here again in the Summer;

Our family of 4 stayed in the 2 bedroom cottage for 2 nights during our 3 week trip to New Zealand. The property was immaculate and cozy with a delicious breakfast. We liked being away from it all and felt truly like we'd found a diamond on the rough west coast!

The place is actually located north of Greymouth within striking distance of the Punakaiki rocks area...great for a day trip. We also did some funky bone carving nearby and enjoyed a few short hikes (short because we have two young kids...we could have walked a lot farther along beautiful rivers and rugged beaches).

Our kids loved the hot tub, and the little paths on the property. Only bummer was that there was no access to the beach from the property when we visited. A locked paddock blocked us. The owners are working to fix that for the future.

"To get to the beach, don't try to do this from the rear garden but instead walk down the path running along the right hand side as you look at it from the road. When this path turns right follow it to a fork which has over it a sign which says "The Council does not maintain this public road beyond this point". Choose the right fork (essentially this means carrying straight on) and after a short while this path turns left and heads directly to the sea. The path isn't particularly visible from the beach so if you are wandering up and down it (and who wouldn't?) make some sort of mark (maybe a piece of driftwood, or even scrape a large arrow in the sand) so you know where the path is when you wander back."
