Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

So enjoyed our one night at this beautiful home. Sandy and Russell were lovely and very calming as we were there during the Covid-19 Pandemic and things were starting to ramp up in NZ. Alpacas grazing on their property and could see sunset over the ocean from our room, and gorgeous night ski. Delicious breakfast. Wi-Fi available but due to how solid the walls are, couldn't get it in our room. Was fine in the great room or outside.

Delightful hosts, wonderful location, delicious dinner and great comfort and taste in the bedroom. We would have appreciated an offer of a drink before dinner and one more glass with dinner- it felt like we were rationed! Otherwise brilliant.

Only stayed the one night and it was fabulous! Their friendliness, the food and their wonderful house built and furnished with so much love made it a short but lovely visit. If you are in the area, stop here!

This is a lovely new B&B that we happened upon while searching for a place to stay along the South Island's quiet West Coast (in May, anyway!). Hosts Sandy and Russell are very gracious, providing friendly conversation as well as a scrumptious feast of a breakfast. Ti Kouka blends antique materials with contemporary architecture in a fascinating way, with three lovely, en suite rooms, each with a view of the ocean just across this quiet, very rural section Highway 6. The B&B is located about 20 kilometers south of Punakaiki and 20 north of Greymouth, just down the road from Truman's Track and Punakaiki's Tasman Sea-carved blow holes and pancake rocks, all of which make for great exploring and "tramping." Each of Ti Kouka's rooms is spotless, comfortable, and decorated in a way that reflects the hosts' warmth and hospitality. We will not forget our stay there nor our lovely hosts.

This was our second visit having stayed there 3 years ago, last time we did it as a one night stay on our way down the West Coast, as most people do, but this time we decided to add a second night and we are so glad we did.
As well as the fantastic food and hospitality that other people have mentioned it meant that we were able to explore many of the great walks which are nearby. Russell and Sandy are able to give good advice but one we would certainly recommend is the Poorari River loop, spectacular scenery and too challenging. Looking forward to returning again some time in the future.

We arrived a the Ti Kouka House on a dark, very rainy evening. It was cold and raining so hard, we could not unload our luggage into the B&B. Our hosts, Sandy and Russell, had a fire going in the kitchen/dining area and served us hot tea and cakes to warm us up. After freshening up in our room, we returned to the dining area, where they had snacks waiting for us. We chatted for the longest time and when we tried to excuse ourselves to go out for bite of supper, Sandy would not let us leave in the foul weather. She cooked up an entire meal for the four of us and we were very appreciative of the hospitality and service given the weather conditions outside. By the time we went to bed around 11PM, we were very comfortable and ready for a good night's sleep. While the room was one of the smaller ones we stayed in while in New Zealand, it was well appointed, very clean, and comfortable. The bed had a mattress heater so we were not at all cold that evening. Breakfast the next morning was a mini-feast with fresh fruit smoothies, croissants, breads, eggs, bacon and other delights. Would highly recommend staying here for anyone visiting the Pancake Rocks and coastal area.

Sandy and Russell were wonderful hosts and it was fascinating talking to them, about the conception of their quirky and unique home. We were pre-booked a platter on our arrival night, and not knowing what to expect, ate at lunchtime. DON'T ! It was a fabulous meal, which went on into the night, also in the company of the other guests, Barbara and Arnie.
Breakfast was awesome and Sandy is a truly exceptional cook.

When we first pulled in we were not too sure what we were going in to but very quickly we were absorbed in to the house and Sandy and Russell's life. We spent a long time during the day and evening chatting with them, getting to to know them, their dog, Webster, the boys (Alpacas) who lived in the field just outside our room and the chickens. We ate our dinner and had breakfast with them swopping stories. The food was superb and the breakfast was the best we have had in NZ. We were sorry to leave and recommend staying with them. If you get a room. They are very busy. We were lucky to be the only guests that evening. TIP. We were introduced to Sandflys at this point in our South bound trip. They are unrelenting and the bite is VERY itchy. SERIOUSLY make sure you are covered with repellant as the remedies do not work.

We stayed with Sandy and Russell for just one night and were blown away by Ti Kouka. An amazing and very unusual house, designed by them which you immediately felt at home in. The room was lovely and had a veranda that looked out onto the Tasman Sea, amazing! The food that Sandy produced was delicious and arranged so beautifully it looked like a work of art! They joined us for dinner and breakfast and it was a joy to sit and chat to them about anything and everything. We didn't want to leave. Thank you Sandy and Russell, one of the best experiences on our travels in New Zealand. We'll definitely be back to see you.

Ti Kouka was one of the highlights of our holiday. We were only staying one night after we had stayed at Hapuku Lodge, an amazing tree houes hotel so to be fare we didn't have great expectations, how wrong were we.
The house is very qwerky designed by the owners Russell and Sandy only 7 years ago but it looks like it is part of the landscape. It is situated opposite the main jade beach of New Zealand.
We were welcomed by Russell and the dog and shown to our room. It was lovely looking over the Tasman Sea with a veranda to sit out. The room was quite small with no wardrobe and my daughter was right under the window and said it was a bit drafty. None of that mattered or was a big deal because the welcome was the best.
We had a fantastic dinner platter cooked freshly by Sandy that quite frankly knocked the spots off the 5* hotel we had just stayed in. But better than that was the company, we had dinner with the family who were such good fun.
Breakfast was if possible even more amazing and we sat and chatted for ages, a shame to leave. I took loads of pictures of all the art sculptures they had around the garden, but somehow they won't look the same in rainy England!
Thank you for making us so welcome.
