This is a lovely apartment with everything you need. Spectacular views of a beautiful beach, very quiet and peaceful. Comfy beds and lovely shower. Great to wake up in the morning to the sound of the waves crashing on the beach. Hosts were very welcoming and helpful. Kitchen was well appointed and was very roomy.
Thanks so much for a wonderful stay.

Overlooking a fine beach we went along for an overnight stay in July. Off season there was no evening meal but the two sumptuous apartments had all the facilities for self catering but we were on a very short haul. The meal we had some kilometers way at the Waihau Lodge was atrocious.
The lady owner had travelled with her husband who wanted to visit 100 countries (recently deceased) was very sweet and informative on the Cape itineraries. There is Manuka Honey collected in that desolate area.

My wife and I are retired and we decided to take a long road trip from Leigh to Gisborne to visit family. We found the Oceanside Apartments on the internet and checked various reviews etc before deciding to book for one night. The property consists of two separate buildings. The apartment at the rear has absolutely no view of the ocean since it is directly behind the larger building at the front facing the ocean where the owner occupies the entirety of the upstairs. Downstairs where we stayed is the only other accommodation available and provided you can find somewhere other that right in front of the sliding glass doors to park your vehicle you have a pretty good view of the ocean looking down the driveway. The position is very quiet and peaceful and the very short distance to the expansive beach area over the main road is very convenient. The apartment was very clean and well presented but the décor and fittings are all a bit tired. As we usually self cater wherever we go we found all the kitchen equipment more than adequate. We felt that the $130 we spent for one night represented very good value for money.

After finding this lodging on Trip Advisor we bookedfor one night after driving over from Gisbourne - it was so worth while and we regret not planning on two nights there. We could have ventured out with our picnic from. there and returned Although Jan was away Maureen cooked us a wonderful snapper dinner and made us feel so welcome. .
The walk on the beach over the road was great and the water so clean and blue. A very good stop over point going east or coming back the way we did. Unit was fully equiped and good to have a clothes line ,so clsoe. We would stay again!

We stopped here for one night on our trip round the East Cape. We had the ground floor apartment from which we looked straight down the drive to the sea and beach 25 yards away. The apartment was clean and well equipped for our overnight needs. We had requested dinner and this was great. Brought to our room we had garlic bread to start, followed by snapper, potatoes and green beans followed by a sweet. Certainly more fish than you get in a restaurant and nicely cooked too. We had our own cereal breakfast although we could have requested breakfast from our hostess who was friendly and helpful at all times. A strong fishing orientated community plenty of activity in this respect and worth knowing that there is petrol sold down by the wharf. Lovely beach for a walk.

We stayed here for one night as part of a 5 day Roadtrip. The great thing about the place is that there are only two units so it feels like you're pretty much on your own. The unit was large and well maintained. Its about 25m from the beach and you're treated to some spectacular sunsets. I'd disagree that it looks tired- it has a typical kiwi B&B feel and that's what we liked about it- down to the beach themed plates and mugs

While the review below is correct in that owners don't provide as many of the fishing and food related things that are advertised on the site anymore- the owner was very helpful in terms of getting in touch with the Waihau Bay Lodge and asking them to prepare dinner for us and talking about must do's on the Pacific Coast Highway.

All in all would stay here again

Room Tip: You got to stay in the Oceanside apartment- its only $10 cheaper but worth it to hear the sound...

Oceanside has had some lovely reviews and I think in it's heyday it was very good. The owner was easy to deal with and the lady that she has managing the place was lovely as well. Unfortunately the owner is not there much anymore, and the downstairs unit is starting to look a bit tired. It was also very cold in this unit as it doesn't get much sun due to the big veranda upstairs. The setting is very peaceful and rugged if you want to get away from it all. It was quite expensive for what it was. We were a little bit disappointed that some of the things still advertised on the website are no longer current and maybe this should be updated to portray a more accurate picture. It was a comfortable stay but I am sorry to say didn't really live up to our expectations.

Stayed 4 nights in this great apartment, everything you could wish for, lovely to wake up in the morning to stunning views, and sit on the deck in the evening. Meagan was great to deal with and we had no problems, We'll go back next year for sure

Stayed here for 1 night during a 4 week road trip. The Accommodation is in a peaceful and stunning location with a quiet beach just the other side of the road. The rooms were nicely decorated and well equipped & our host served us an excellent evening meal and superb breakfast. This is a perfect location if you want to go to Hicks bay as we did to see the sunrise first anywhere in the world. Overall, an excellent stay with very hospitable hosts & very good value for money. Thanks

We stayed in the back unit (separate from the owner's house) and had a large and bright apartment to enjoy. The beach is just across the road so could enjoy both evening and morning strolls easily. We requested the hot breakfast (not included in the rate) and it was delivered to our room piping hot and was substantial. Would be happy to stay at this location again. It offered everything we were looking for.
