Nestled in a serene setting, Vale d'Oliveiras Quinta Resort & Spa garners appreciation for its classic atmosphere and impeccable cleanliness, with the well-kept grounds and spotless rooms often highlighted by guests. The staff's attentive service receives accolades, from helpfulness to celebrating special occasions. While the spacious apartments with kitchen facilities are a hit, the resort's remote location and a lack of festive vibe have drawn some criticism. Additionally, issues such as a shortage of sunbeds and the need for updated pool decking alongside concerns over value have been noted by reviewers.

Currently staying here. Would be 5 stars but given 4 I’ll expand later, but first the positive of which there are many.
The complex is small so nice and quiet, made up of apartments and a small number of hotel rooms.
We are staying in a 2 apartment. Really large with two good size bedrooms and two bathrooms, easily take 4 adults or two adults and 3/4 younger children.
Very well equipped kitchen, we’re only here a week but could easily stock up the kitchen and stay here for longer periods.
The complex is spotless clean throughout and very rigid in its Covid rules.
Pool area very clean, as not at capacity easy to get a sun lounger.
The gardens are immaculate.
All the waiting staff are very friendly and helpful, particularly call out to Jose and Rory.
The food at breakfast and evening meal is really good and the waiters really go far in an evening explaining the food choices.
You are a good way out (2.7 mile walk to the local centre), we like walking and enjoy the stroll down to town for a coffee and the get a taxi back, however, anyone staying over a week I’d definitely recommend a car.
There is a small gym which due to covid you pre book as you can only have four in at a time, quite like that as it’s so small it makes it more enjoyable.
So the only reason I’ve given 4 and not 5 stars is the following;
We arrived at 1pm on our arrival date, baring in mind this is a 5* complex, that including flights has cost us £650 a night for the three of us, we were told our room would not be ready until 4pm as that was check in time!!! We had been travelling since 4am and were advised to go get a drink by the pool. When I asked for somewhere to change we were told to go in the toilets!! Sorry but for that money I do not expect to have to get changed in the lobby toilets. The rooms were eventually ready at 5pm. I appreciate due to covid things are being super cleaned however the complex is at around 60% capacity so I can’t believe there wasn’t options.
First impressions count and that was a tad annoying for the price we paid.
Final comment, great that the gym is set to small capacity however it’s open only 8am to 5pm. Again for a 5* I’d expect much wider opening hours (lock the indoor pool if necessary and just allow use at own risk access to the gym area) .
Other than those two issues it’s fabulous, very quiet and relaxing,

Dear Guest, thank you very much for your review and for stayind at Vale d´Oliveiras. We appreciate the time you took to leave us your impressions, even during your stay with us. I´m happy to read that overall you had a good time in our resort, with highlight for the safty during COVID times. I´m sorry to hear that we did not manage to check you in to your room earlier but in fact, with all the cleaning proceedures and quarantine of the rooms between diferent guests, it is not always possible to make it faster (for the own safety of our guests). With regards to the gym opening times, this measure was implemented for the same reason and to allow us to proceed with the proper cleaning of all the spaces. However, I´m pleased to inform that we have now extended the opening times till 7pm as we managed to recruit more staff to do the cleanings over night. We hope to welcome you back again in the near future. Kind regards, Eduardo Peregrino General Manager

We have stayed at this hotel (1 bedroom apartment) for 17 nights in January. Location is nice, having access to the garden with 2 sun lounges is really a plus. The staff was very helpful and the kitchen is rather good equipped.
The apartment looked renovated.
We were booked on bed and breakfast, (great!) breakfast was served in the restaurant and later as room service during the lockdown which we really appreciated, many thanks for that. Our kitchen was equipped with a Lavazza coffee machine. You get 2 capsules for free the first day and need to buy additional capsules at the reception for the following days. In a 5* hotel, you could expect to have daily coffee for free.

Dear Guest, thank you very much for your preference during these challenging times and for your review. It´s a true pleasure to read your comments and to see how much you have enjoyed your stay with us, despite all restrictions. I also would like to thank you for your understanding when we had to close our restaurant for legal obligation and started serving breakfast into our guests rooms. We really appreciate your cooperation and understanding. With regards to the coffee capsules, this is a complimentary service at arrival and our policy is to charge for the refill. However, I remember to have personally solved this subject when you reported your disappointment to the reception. Our commitment is always to keep our guests happy, especially when the solution is in our hands and in this situation, we decided to open an expection due to all other restrictions that affected our guest´s experience. We look forward to welcome you back soon and hopefully without restrictions. Keep safe! Kind regards, Eduardo Peregrino General Manager

We stayed at the resort for 7 days having never visited the Algarve before. An unexpected trip due to another holiday being cancelled.
The resort is somewhat remote and the shop had very little to choose from in respect of groceries so I would recommend hiring a car we used the company recommended by reception and really good value for money. The Courtesy bus was not running as advertised due to CV-19. So if you don’t drive or can’t walk far this isn’t the time for a visit unless you are full board.
The rooms are not ready until 4:00 pm and this was not advised to us beforehand which meant hanging around upon arrival. It was worth waiting for , the 2 bedroom townhouse was immaculate and recently refurbished to a high standard and this was beyond our expectation. We are in C block with a garden view , so peaceful. No complaints at all.
The service at the bar was sometimes slow but understandably the hotel are trying their best to react with the changes on / off IRO of Covid 19.
A great place to relax.

Dear Guest, we appreciate your comment regarding your experience at Vale d´Oliveiras. It´s a pleasure to read that you liked your accommodation and you had a peaceful and relaxing break with us. Please allow me to clarify that the check-in time is at 4pm because as you have experienced, we are not a traditional hotel building, with rooms and floors. We are a resort with 108sqm apartments (as well as standard rooms) with fully equipped kitchens and complete furniture in all divisions. The check-out time is at noon which means the teams have maximum 4 hours to make everything immaculate. This is the reason why we do not have our check-in time at 2pm as usually in traditional hotels. However, this information is advertised in our website as well as all official booking partners. I look forward to welcome you back again for another relaxing holiday. Kind regards, Eduardo Peregrino General Manager

We've been coming to Vale d'Oliveiras for 3 years now and what was once a delightful gem has really slumped into a complex that's tired and unloved by the management.

Apartments that haven't been modernised or refurbished in many years, furniture becoming tatty and just worn out.

The pool area is equally as tired, the wooden flooring is broken in numerous places creating hazards particularly for children.

Things are generally clean hence the 2 stars, the cleaning team are great but this is no longer the 5 star complex it advertises and is a mile behind newer but similarly priced hotels in the area.

Waiting/bar staff are excellent and welcoming but health club staff and front of house staff are difficult and I thought rude when dealing with other guests, berating one family for leaving their sun loungers at lunch so they couldn't be cleaned. Customer service left a lot to be desired.

Of particular note was the €7.50 charge for room service, which seemed out of touch with the current pandemic situation that saw the main restaurant closed. Essentially cashing in on a situation of their own creation. When you're only ordering a €10 euro sandwich then it gets a bit silly to charge almost as much to deliver it 200m from the kitchen.

On Covid I thought the hotel handled this well, with lots of sanitation stations and all staff wearing masks, no complaints there.

However I am left surmising that due to the lack of revenue in 2020 due to lockdown that there's been no budget for repairs and renewals and general maintenance.

We've been coming to the Algarve for 15 years and it feels like that's where Vale d'Oliveiras is stuck in time, about 15 years behind the curve.

Regretfully will be our last visit to this resort, for anyone considering whether to book, if you lower your expectations to a typical 3* hotel thats due a refurb then you won't be disappointed but don't expect 5* facilities, accommodation or service.

Dear Guest, thank you for sharing your opinion with us. We regret that we did not manage to impress you as in the previous stays in our resort. Please allow us to inform that we have started a very ambitious refurbisment programme, as you can read in comments from other guests that have stayed with us during 2020. We have so far completed 18 from the 80 accommodations and completed also the reception area. The plan is to continue to refurbish all apartments and public areas such as the restaurant. However, we continue to maintain all other apartments, by doing regular maintenance works, indoors and outdoors. With regards to the pool area/wooden floor, we do regular maintenance to this area even during the high season. I´m personally many times in the early morning in this area to check if everything is in order. There is not registration of accidents or dangares situations that have not been solved within minutes from an eventual report. About the staff, I´m sorry to hear that in some areas you were not impressed with our service and can only assure you that we do our utmost to please all our guests, as you will see from the big majoraty of the on-line comments. One last note about the room service charge: during 2020 we have introduced a take away concept that is free of fees or extra charges. We regret but respect the fact that you do not consider to book again. However, should you decide to rebook, please feel free to contact us directly and ask for a Deluxe Two Bedroom Apartment which are the recently decorated units. Kind regards, Eduardo Peregrino General Manager

This is our 2nd trip to this hotel having previously visited 2 years.
This hotel is in a gorgeous setting with beautiful gardens! We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment which was fantastic. Lovely generous spaces and house keeping do a fab job. Reception staff are very welcoming and helpful!
Camilla I think is the name of the lady who works in the jazz bar she is amazing!

Last time we stayed at this hotel we felt the breakfast and general service let it down. The breakfast has greatly improved with quicker replacement of items that are low in numbers and quickly removal of dirty dishes. But I have one issue that remains and I simply don't get this - why only 1 toaster? It's so annoying. Slow and totally unfit to serve a full hotel. What are they thinking?

As I said service let this hotel down 2 years ago and sadly this remains unchanged in the jazz bar. We ordered drinks on 4 occasions that we never got until we asked for 2nd and 3rd times. Bar man was attending to managers and their drinks yet we had sat for 20mins waiting for 2 glasses of wine. On our last occasion at the bar the staff were disagreeing among themselves.
This part of the hotel could be fab but training and management seems desperately lacking. Maybe if managers checked on customers they would know this.

Finally, this year the pool and the old age problem of no sun loungers appeared. 9am and all loungers by the pool gone which is frusting when you have a young child. Sun loungers sitting with towels on them unused for hrs. One day a woman with her 2 sons one of which had special needs could not get a lounger anywhere and it wasn't 11am yet! The woman was delighted when we agreed to share loungers and gave ours over. There should be a priority area for those with disabilities. One day we asked someone with 2 umbrellas between 2 adults and he apologised and said his daughter might join them. Maybe a policy of towels removed after 1. 5hrs of non use?
The hotel could def look at extending the pool as it is just simply too small for the number of guests/families they now have.

We would def like to return to this hotel but with my toaster under one arm and my sun lounger under the other!!!!

Dear Guest, thank you very much for your the time you dedicated to leave us with your opinion regarding your recent stay with us. We are delighted to see that you enjoyed your stay at Vale d´Oliveiras and appreciated the great service provided by our team, especially from Camila. It´s a pleasure to see that the improvements made at the breakfast have been noted by our guests. There is definitly space for more and with regards to the toaster, I can assure that we will take a closer eye at it despite we have not seen or received any comments about queues at this point. With regards to the waiting time at the Jasmin Pool Bar, there are traditionally some peak hours and we regret that on one occasion, it took a bit longer. About the priority of serving a manager first, I would appreciate your contact to duty@valedoliveiras.pt to give us a few more details. Your cooperation is very much appreciated. Regarding the sunbeds, you are correct as they cannot be booked. There are sunbeds for all guests and we do our utmost to balance the peak times and remove towels always we see that they are not being used. However, please accept my apologies if at any point this was not as expected. I look forward to receive your e-mail and hopefully to welcome you back soon again! From a previous visit prior Covid, we pointed out the health and safety of the pool area walk boards being dangerous, they are worse than they were. Food choice/ selection on an evening in the main restaurant Olive Tree was rather small. The few meals we ate were rather disappointing. Yes you could order meals from the Jasmin Bar, this food was always enjoyable, but you want a selection that is different and a better choice too.
We ate in the Jasmin bar more than the Olive Tree due to the lack of evening choice, or eat out of the resort.
For those that love a happy hour, there was one advertised, however on five separate occasions to be told there was no Happy hour, by the staff, even though reception told us there was, so even though we did visit at the relevant times we did not benefit as we were told no, although select persons/ visitors did benefit from the Happy hour that did not apparently happen or did it, got fed up of the contradictions.
For some reason both weeks there was a Barbecue but was held in doors. The price was 32euro and the amount of food available was minimal.
There is no longer a shop or shuttle, at the resort.
We did not hire a car this year due to cost and both facilities been available however we were disappointed to find out that both had now since been removed.
Yes you could order a few basic items that you could order from the reception tried this but, was a bit of a failure to be fare.
A car is a must if you want to cook any of your own meals.

The pool Towels want replacing, they are marked and with holes.

House keeping was disappointing at the start, they were selective in what towels were being replaced after use, instead of like for like, they were also rather dated. The dodgy gel they provided was as though it had been watered down and when housekeeping were asked for towels not been replaced they became unfriendly and unapproachable.

Overall sorry to say are stay was very disappointing compared to are great previous visits.
I do understand that the management have changed clearly not for the better we s as re afraid to have to say this.

Our experience here was mediocre all around. Many aspects of the resort felt like being on a budget cruise. The resort itself is very generic and doesn't make you feel like you're in Portugal. Due to it being down season the food options were limited. We were traveling with our infant who was asleep by dinnertime on 2 nights leaving us with room service as our only option. Both nights the food was dissapointing and made with cheap ingredients. The friendliness of the the employees was really variable, but the individuals in the dining room that were very warm and welcoming. They stuck to the check-in time which I found surprising given they seemed to be at 10-20% capacity. We arrived an hour before check-in and had to wait out that hour at the empty bar. The room itself was spacious and maintained well. One of the glasses in the cupboards was chipped and cut my finger so some details are being overlooked. It was still a quiet place to relax and enjoy the sun before we returned home.

Dear Guest, thank you for sharing with us your opinion regarding your experience in our resort. We regret that we did not manage to make you feel like in Portugal. Please allow me to give you some examples of the portuguese culture present in all aspect of our resort: - 99% of our staff comes from Portugal; - approximatly 100 typical Algarvian chimneys in the resort; - Sculptures in permanent exhibition in all resort wings, all from a local artists; - 85% of our wine list with portuguese wines; - we produce our own olive oil and have over 70 olive trees in all the resort (some of them are centenary); - traditional decoration items in most of the apartments, such as cork, pottery from Porches and national embroidery; - Mediterranean Restaurant offering only national products based on the Portuguese food culture; - the cheap ingredients you refere are probably produced in our own organic garden, the healtiest products you can find; With regards to the check-out/in time, we always do our utmost to facilitate the access to the room. Unfortunatly it is not always possible and it depends on several factors, such as occupancy and 24h quarantine between guests. Perhaps you give us another try and wish to come back with a different perspective. We are always happy to welcome our guests back. Kind regards, Eduardo Peregrino General Manager

We have just come back from a week’s stay at Vale d’Oliveiras. We stayed last year and liked it so much, we decided to come back. For us, it was perfect. The one bedroom apartment was very spacious and spotlessly clean. The sun loungers by the pool were very comfy. Although I would like to have had disinfectant spray available, so I could spray it down before and after use. Because of COVID, I didn’t really think that people should be allowed to smoke or Vape around the swimming pool area. The meals at the beach bar were very tasty. Once a week, there is a Grill night with live entertainment. We really enjoyed that.
The gym is well equipped and has some studio classes in Pilates, cross training, Steps. The 2 instructors Meesha, and Ana are exceptionally
Good.

Have just returned from a trip with our family for 4 days over Christmas. We stayed in two apartments which were spacious and furnished to a high standard.
The staff throughout the resort are so well trained and the level of customer service is very high.
The Olive tree restaurant serves a 5 star buffet breakfast with everything you could wish for on offer.
Covid hygiene is followed diligently throughout the resort safety in this regard was paramount.
The bar was welcoming and thank you to Ronnie and Rui who both go the extra mile.
As a group of 8 we enjoyed a set Christmas lunch in the restaurant.
Great swimming pool, indoor, available along with a gym and a
Tennis court.
Definitely rate this Hotel that clearly deserves to be 5 star.

This was our sixth stay at VDO, postponed by two years due to Covid-19. Reservations were very accommodating in changing our booking several times until we finally were able to travel. Our one bedroom villa was spotless, fresh and appealing. We had booked breakfast after experiencing it on our last trip, but we were concerned about Covid with the buffet style. We needn’t have worried as all precautions possible to safeguard against it were in place and adhered to. We dined in the Olive Tree on one night, it’s was magnificent. We normally go out a few nights to local restaurants for meals. However, we found the Olive Bar has an extensive bar food menu which is really rather good, and reasonably priced, so we just dined there instead. The staff in each department are professional, calm and friendly. The hotel hasn’t lost any of its appeal for us, even after our sixth visit, and, we will be going back just as soon as we can.

Dinner is served at 6.30 and the hotel provide a shuttle bus with good quality car seat. There’s not a lot to do around there unfortunately we found.
