I stayed here as part of a coach holiday, thankfully it was for one night only. I was in the annexe at the side of the hotel. A room on the first floor, both the room and the bathroom were dirty. Two towels supplied, one hand towel, dark grey, with 'Champions League' on one end (obviously left by a previous guest). The large main towel was white ????, I used my own and the dark grey one as a shower mat. The bedroom was basic to say the least, a large pine table was stuck against the wall, which you had to negotiate around to get to the bathroom and the bedroom door. (one good point - it was great to put the suitcase on, as there was nowhere else.) This hotel took the shine off the holiday, as the other hotels used were fine, with nice rooms and good food. When the coach drivers x 2 warn you, 'not to expect too much at the hotel', you wonder what you are going to. The evening meal was basic, but ok. Breakfast was again basic, but the staff were totally unprepared for our group coming down at the time agreed. The holiday, 'Romantic Rhine and the Fairytale Castles', is a great holiday with good traditional hotels.............it is a shame this hotel is part of it. One cheery bit was, on the coach on leaving this hotel, my other travellers had a good laugh at 'how bad the place was'. Coach tour companies should put a mystery guest on their trips to see how dad some hotels really are.…

Visited onFriday 5th Sept. Hotel in pleasant location and welcomed by the owner. That was the good bit! I had a single room in the main part of the hotel - adequate, but poorly furnished and in need of maintenance (towel rail hanging off, curtains not fitting etc.) Food was adequate, but small portions. Some health and safety issues (one of our party in the annex had to be escorted by torch-light as there was no lighting on the undulating path.) Good night in the bar!!!

Stayed here for one night as part of a coach tour. Our room was pokey and dark and not very clean. The bathroom was not very clean at all; there was mould in the shower cubicle, the shower curtain was stiff with grime, the old fashioned radiator was covered in dust and the towels were old and hard. The bed frames were old and squeaky and the mattresses and bed linen smelt old and musty. The set evening meal was very basic - desert was a bowl of 4 plums! The vegan offering was an insipid plate of mostly pickled veg. In the hotel's defence it has a very nice outside seating area and a skittle alley in the basement which made for a fun evening, although everybody slept badly because of the uncomfortable beds. Breakfast was basic german style with not much choice of bread or fruit. This place is set in a beautiful location and could be a gold mine with a bit of TLC. But we were glad we were only there one night.…

This was an overnight stay on a Leger tour to Germany. Rooms are in four locations - the main hotel, an annexe, a second annexe uphill from the main building and a "guesthouse" about 300 meters away. We were on the top floor of the second annexe so it was a climb from the restaurant and bar but we did have a balcony. The owner is also the chef and he is in many ways larger than life. The room was OK for a night but very dated in fittings and decor. The food was fine at dinner and breakfast was a typical German buffet breakfast.

The hotel staff and owner are very pleasant and looked after us very well. As a vegetarian I was offered a meal that was not on the menu. My fellow dinners were pleased to have vegetables with the meal as previous hotels served only cabbage. The bar and restuarant were clean and breakfast welcoming with the usual meat, cheese and bread. The rooms are basic and it is very much a 70's style of accommodation, that said it was one night only, the was bed comfortable and shower worked. As we were on a coach trip we arrived quite late and had no time to explore, the hotel seems to be on the outskirts of a large industrial town.

We booked 3 nights in this hotel and were placed in the 'Gastehaus' at 300m from the main building, we liked the walk so we didn't mind. What we did mind was the following: apart from lace curtains, there were no regular curtains and we had to use the rolling curtains on the outside, no problem per se, but one of these started moving in the wind at about 2.00AM and make noise. We had to keep it open and hang our coats in front of the window to block the light. No extra blankets were supplied (we didn't need them for the warmth, but could have used them as curtains). Matrasses were cheap and old (happens quickly when they're cheap) and we could feel the springs, I had 3 nights of bad sleep. We only ate at the hotel on 2 out of 3 evenings even though it was paid for. The set menu consisted of a broth with fried egg or omelett pieces, a main which was ok but the term 'hospital food' comes to mind. Dessert was a small glass of failed chocolate mousse. I also had not realised that practically everybody smokes in this area and I should have asked for a non-smoker room. In the bar area which was adjacent to the restaurant people smoked, so smoke also enters the restaurant. The breakfast buffet was described as 'rich' on the hotel website but we would call it basic. Based on this experience we would not return here.…

Came here for a Christmas break Decemeber 2011. Large tour group came here arriving a little late but the booking in could and should have been a lot smoother as the owner /chef Roland was one person who did it his way.... ONLY. Rooms were allocated to people by him with total disregard to the tour leader and room lists, on an ad- hoc basis with complete disregard to their physical capabilities. Some rooms were ok in the main building, some in an annex just behind the main building, again ok, but others were in annexs some 300-400metres away and when people have difficulty with mobilty issues and the roads were icy it was a recipe for disaster. Part of the group although they had paid for on-suite facilties were dumped in a nearby pension run by a little old lady with no connections with the hotel but happy for the business!!The rooms were great but 6 people sharing 1x bathroom/toilet is no fun for 3 nights. They were offered alternative rooms at another pension 1.5km away great for the group who were going on excursions/meals etc etc.. no option whatsoever. Meals at the hotel were ok no choice on the first night and the family group of vegetarians (3) were never offered any protein based food until they asked for fish, otherwise it was potatos, cabbage rice for them.Breakfasts were actualy quite good varied assortment of cheese, meats, breads, juice etc everything you want on continental style breakfast tables, including eggs. When tasked the owner prepared a variety of dishes for the Christmas dinner, turkey, duck, beef choices which were well cooked and presented in my opinion. Service in the dining room was very slow but this was not due to lack of effort by the overworked staff. They worked very hard but it was obvious the hotel was seriously overbooked with another coach group of about 60 (Dutch) also staying/eating here and there just was not enough staff to deal with those and other guests staying at the hotel/ visiting to just eat etc. The location of the hotel is fantastic right in the picturesque valleys of the Black Forest and not far from many places popular with the tourists. Christmas was almost an aside event here the owner had no preparations for the celebration the room was decorated that was it!! No music no entertainment, the tour manager managed to get some decent CD's and got people up and dancing, enjoying themselves otherwise the event might have been missed by all completely. Overall I would come back to this hotel but on a walking type holiday but not for a special occasion type visit, like Christmas.Others in th group had a similar opinion.…

Hotel itself was adequate for a package tour but needs updating. No choice of food, just a set menu which, although adequate, was clearly inferior to the public restaurant. Went with my wife to celebrate our 51st Wedding Annivesary. Tour company was great, gave us a surprise bottle of bubbly and a card, went out of their way to make a fuss of us, even checked with hotel management that we could have the bubbly in the dining room and exlained why they had given it to us. It left a bitter taste when the management charged us corkage of 4 Euros per glass for 4 glasses, total 16 Euros! How mean spirited can you get? Would never go back there again.

I stayed in this hotel as a teacher accompanying a school group visiting the area; we stayed for 4 nights. Hornberg itself seemed to be a typical village with nothing particularly good or bad about it. The hotel gives a lovely first impression - it has a stream running outside, is surrounded by forest and the restaurant and bar areas are modern and very clean. The rooms in the hotel itself, although clean and reasonably sized, are very dated - most of the furntiure looked as if it is from the 1960s/70s. Some of our group were in rooms in other buildings nearby, which appear to be bigger and more modern than those in the hotel. itself. The hotel owner and his staff were all very helpful, friendly and pleasant. Food was plentiful, well presented and well cooked, typical hearty German fare. The hotel has its own 2-lane bowling alley. I went for a walk in the nearby forest one evening and there were plenty of easy to follow paths for a gentle (or less gentle!) evening stroll.…
