I love Brenton on Sea next to Knysna on the Cape’s Harden Route. I last visited in 1978 so very excited to return in 2022. I searched on line for a number of locations but was drawn to the Brenton-on-Sea Beach House both for its location and ambience. We weren’t disappointed. On our arrival we were shown into our magnificent en-suite bedroom which faced the garden and had a north easterly aspect. Our bedroom overlooked the stunning garden and swimming pool with a lovely veranda through double French Windows. Very tastefully furnished and decorated in pale shades of grey, white and lilac. Parking provided in front of the premises and free wifi. Our stay included breakfast which was sometimes challenging because of load shedding but Derrick Coetzer our host, provided us with a load shedding timetable which was very helpful. Breakfast was largely continental with cooked eggs on request. There is tea and coffee making facilities in the bedroom as well as a sink so very convenient for making your own beverages. Derrick even supplied fresh flowers in our bedroom. He is a host with great local knowledge and also an extremely talented photographer. Derrick made great suggestions for restaurants, things to do during our limited 3 night stay. Thanks to Derrick we really packed a lot in! Would definitely return to the Beach House again if the opportunity ever arises to visit this stunning area again. The beach is incredibly beautiful and a very peaceful stay surrounded by birds and wildlife.

Brenton beach house was an experience of tranquility and kindness. The rooms are crisp white, clean and fresh. I loved the private entrances to each room. The wide verandas extending the living area embrace a paradise-like garden with tall palms, a swimming pool and the sound of birds. Although our rooms did not have a sea view (others have), this tranquil view of the semi inner court was lovely. Breakfast was served by the owner, Derrick, who not only bakes his own breads, prepares your eggs, but assists with a wealth of advice on places to visit. As host he is kind and generous, professional and goes to lengths to create a holiday that is remarkable. His exquisite photographs decorate the space and add to the appreciation of the beauty of an exceptional landscape.

Wow! My expectations were exceeded! The hospitality we received from Derrick was amazing, everyday we were treated with suggestions for things to do in and around Knysna especially since it was our first time visiting Knysna! The rooms were very spacious, and man what a view!! Staying in Brenton was the best decision I have made in a long time, the sunrises were beautiful, it got dark quite late so we took our son for bike rides every night. I felt safe in the area. Thank you for being so accommodating with regards to our little one as well!

Brenton beach house was neat and tidy. Derrick was awesome, hospitality was a 10. Will definitely go again to stay. What a great way to have started our honeymoon. Perfectly set away from the main roads, quiet and nesteled away in the trees seeing beautiful birds nesting in the trees. Nature at its best.

What an outstanding guest house. So ably owned and managed by Derrick and Joyce.
Stunning breakfast with a sea view. Derrick went out of his way to assist us and guide us around Brenton and Knysna. Even supplied us with Weber, braai coals and blitz. Set it all up at the pool and gave us a dinner table pool side, as we decided to stay in for New Years Eve. Thank you so much for making our stay so memorable

The worst night of our 2+ week Africa trip was the night we were Derrick's guests at Brenton by the sea. It's easy to be a gentleman when things go right, but a person's character is tested when things don't go quite right. On our trip, things didn't go quite right, and we saw a very hostile and utterly rude side to the man who is praised in these reviews.

We had arrived in Cape Town the day before after a 28 hour trip, so we got off to a late start in driving to Knysna. We called Derrick to let him know we'll be late. We got to the guest house just after 11. Yes, we got there after the check in time (7 pm) and we all felt *really* bad about it.

My mom was the first person to take her luggage into the reception. Next I got into the building and as I approached Derrick to say how sorry I was, I saw this old man reprimanding my mom in a very hostile and disrespectful way. Derrick, how dare you talk to my mom in that way! She is the most kindest and non confrontational person I've known in my life! Shame on you!

At one point we were 4 tired travelers, standing in the reception, with Derrick continuing to berate us over bring late. My father pointed out that Derrick's yelling was waking up all the guests. At that point, he quieted down.

The drama continued the next day, when he asked us several times why it took so long, why we stopped at Cape Agulhas when we were late, and that we did very poor planning!

I'm very well traveled (29 countries and counting) and my father has been to almost every corner of the world. We both agree: we have never been as mistreated as we were by Derrick, any where in the world.

Derrick, had you just reprimanded me, I wouldn't have bothered with this review. But you disrespected my parents in the worst and hostile way, and that crossed my line.

a wonderful B & B about 15 km from Knysna, which was a great advantage for us, no road noise, few tourists only ..... The Honymoon romm has a great view over the Indian Ocean. The other rooms have a great view of the garden with many beautiful birds, which always cheers up in the morning of the day. The breakfast is prepared by Derrick, the owner himself fresh every morning. The omelets are the best that have ever eaten ... Derrick is a fantastic host, has lots of tips on food and tours in the area. A tip: Walk on the beach to Bettys Bay fantastically beautiful ..... will be back Derrick, many thanks also to the two very nice ladies from the service.
