I didn’t have internet to check hotels in Tanga so this was the first I have chosen. And I stayed there for one night. If I paid the whole sum of money they wanted I would be mad but after negociations it was ok. The hotel is old and not renewable for a long time. Room was ok but there was only medium warm water in the bathroom. Location is good by the sea with a view for the marina but it has no access to the water. Breakfast had only fruits and toasts included, for aggs you have to pay extra. The only good thing about this hotel was food from menu which was very tasty but expensive.

Surprisingly well maintained for such an old Hotel. The rooms are big enough and have balconies (some sea facing), the A/C is good to keep you cool and there is also a mini-fridge, chairs and working desk. The food you order from their restaurant is good and the pool is big! There is also ample parking space on the back and huge grounds facing the sea to the front with many monkeys moving around the compound. The downside was that the breakfast is too basic and there is no kettle in the room, the bug spray had a bad smell!

We visited the hotel in order to have lunch before our flight from Tanga airport.
I don't know about the rooms but the food was very averaged, the vegetables were fresh I must say, but the tempura shrimps were nothing like tempura.
The best thing was the seating area facing the sea.

It was really a nice place stay there. I would say the best place in Tanzania. I had a lot of enjoy there and fun too made some new Indian friends. Picture attached. The food quality is okay for Non- Veg lovers. The rooms are too old but neat and clean. The staff are good, polite and Helpful.
Special thanks Mr. Sulemani(Manager F&B). Manka and Rabeka( Front desk).

Well what can one say about this place. One thing for sure, it looks a remarkable colonial building built in 1950 apparently as a club for the “special employees only” of the Sisal Estates scattered around Tanga of its time. Once you enter inside, your whole perception fizzles out rapidly. For a starter, the dormitory block which is a much later add-on to the original building is a big eyesore and must have been designed by a Trabant or a Lada designer. Hugely ugly, basic and Spartan. Equally, the staff at this hotel comprises of glum looking chums presumably trained in Kazakhstan to do a job in which they have no passion or love to serve the customers or simply do their jobs professionally. The breakfast buffet was the biggest laugh with a few items scattered around (including an un-appetising display of so-called fresh papaya, pineapple and plain yoghurt). It reminded me of my experience of eating meals on a Russian construction camp not many years ago. The unappealing and threadbare bed covers and torn chair cushions date back to 1950’s it seems. You are also provided with a footstool sized fridge – again of a Lada charm.
The hotel is located in Bombo area, the name of which I presume came from an old shipwreck bombed during WWII which stood as a partially sunk landmark in the sea water close to this hotel from my memories as young boy. I feel the dormitory needs to be Bombo’d too. The whole staff, including the imported chef, need to be sent on permanent leave. To wait more than one hour for your meals is just horrendous and unacceptable. Don’t forget to take your shampoo and toiletries with you. You are provided only with a bar of Eva Luxury soap which has an rancid odour which is easy to understand but hard to describe.
The inside décor of the old colonial building needs to be upgraded tastefully and substantially for this hotel to come up to its full potential. Mr Alibhai, please have pity. Hire a professional hotel staff and rescue this beautiful property before it rots away into extinction.

I stayed here twice during a business trip to Tanga, one night each stay. The hotel has definitely seen better days, but in a charming kind of way. The lunch and restaurant staff were also very nice. The shower and front desk service, however, were an issue. The first night I stayed here there was no hot water, which I accepted (although for $100/night the room should really come with hot water). The second night I stayed here, however, there was hot water, but the shower was broken. I could only get a tiny trickle of water out of the faucet, which resulted in me having to crouch on the ground to get under it. This happened around midnight after a long day, and by the time I discovered the problem I was already naked in the bathroom and exhausted, so I decided to just deal with telling the staff in the morning. When I brought this to the attention of the woman at the front desk the next day, however, not only did she seem to give absolutely no f---s, she acted like I was making this up! She had a cleaning lady check out the room to make sure I was actually telling the truth. After the cleaning lady confirmed, the front desk lady then told me it was basically my own fault for not alerting staff (even at midnight!), and that as a result, there would be no discount. When I pushed her to speak with the manager, she spoke with the manager, Sudkaran, herself. In the end he told her to give me a pathetic $5 off for a room that cost over $100. Absolutely ridiculous. The entire ordeal took about half an hour to resolve, causing me to almost miss breakfast. Sudakran, you need to up your game and learn what customer service is. I won't be staying here again.

Not the smartest hotel in Tanga but it's peaceful and spacious with decent-sized rooms, clean sheets and working AC. The food and service are nothing to write home about; you'd do better to eat elsewhere. Take a can of insecticide for the room.

By far the best feature of this hotel is the lovely spacious grounds where you can sit and enjoy a cold evening drink while watching the boats pottering around in the bay. Very relaxing and tranquil.

A room here cost me around $30 for the night.

The location is lovely and so is the view over Tanga bay. However, that’s where the good news stops. Other than the lady who cleaned our room the staff were very unfriendly, particularly the two ladies at reception were downright rude. The rooms are outdated and the bathrooms are in dire need to renovation. The fruit at breakfast was very good but the rest on offer was poor. The manager never greeted any of the guests or made eye contact. Security was also an issue. One day we returned to the hotel to find all the keys to the rooms inserted outside the rooms so that anybody could have entered at any time. In addition, on two consecutive evenings we saw the two security guards outside the entrance of the hotel fast asleep when we returned shortly after 9pm. This hotel has a great deal of potential and would greatly benefit from some renovations and a change of management.

Rooms need lot of renovation, good part is that Indian food available. Right next to river front. Live music in the evening. Poor net connectivity. Poor breakfast availability. Needs to be more cleaner.
