Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was the perfect place to stay in Pangani! The room was clean, very comfortable, and had a private screened in porch area. The location is amazing—just a few seconds and you are on the beach. Breakfast in the morning was simple but yummy, and the staff is so kind and friendly. They’re also happy to help organize activities to do in the area. I would love to come back here!

We went to Pangani on a whim and were met by friendly, helpful people. Big thanks to Mr. Emmanuel from the Pangani Coast Cultural and Tourism Program. He met us at the bus stop/market and gave us some much needed assistance. He put us in touch with the Seaside Community Hostel which was a modest place with a beautiful beach, friendly staff, good food, and quiet places to relax. Every morning I sat in a pagoda on the beach watching the fishing dhows go out and the waves roll in. We took a historical tour of Pangani which was thoroughly enjoyable. The people were kind and proud of their town.

It was allright. Friendly People, the Food was slow, the receptionist were Friendly, hardworking. Willing to speak English. The Food was oké. Good that the local community is supported bij the visit.
I was expecting more of Pangani, wrong choice. If I went to Tanga at once it was better for me.

I have visited the Community Centre many, many times over the past 12 months. When I first arrived here as a tourist I chose this place to camp as the cheapest option. At first it seems local and pleasant, probably due to its great location on the beach. The huts with seating and chairs you can lie in make for a very relaxing place to be. But within time you realise that it's not all as rosey as it seems...

The food was originally terrible, from pizzas with jam instead of tomato to fish that was frozen in the middle and deep fried black on the outside. Why did I keep coming back here you may ask? Living in town with powercuts left you with the community centre being one of two options with a generator at the time.

However... after visiting again after a few months away, I can honestly say I can now improve the rating from a 1 to a 2 star.

The menu has been improved by sticking to four local dishes (none of which are vegetarian - they might be able to cook you a chipsi mayai if you ask) and not all four dishes are always available. My partner tried the pork which he favours, the beef was average and the fish did not come as described on the menu.

The double rooms are cute and clean with a veranda. Personally I think they're a little overpriced at 48,000tsh with fan / 80,000tsh with aircon but there's nothing particularly wrong with them. I do however have a serious problem with leaving the key at the desk, because members of staff were freely walking into our room to switch the fan off while we were out which I find totally unacceptable.

The staff have mostly been the same all year, miserable and as energetic as the walking dead, all bar one waitress who is very sweet and occasionally smiles.

Overall if you want to stay somewhere in Pangani that's cheaper, local and close to the beach try Pangani Beach Resort with rooms for 40,000tsh. If you do stay at SCC, please eat out. There's a variety of street food and a very good local restaurant next to Safari Lodge which does great food for around 4,000tsh (7,000 if you want the buffet). For sundowner beers head to Forodhani bar on the river front.

Just outside of the couple of street intersections that make up the village of Pangani, the hostel is right on the beach overlooking the mouth of the river. There is a small garden with many trees connecting the accommodation block with the dining hall/bar and the beach itself. The place is very pleasant and the service fairly slow…Food was fine although the portions were unbelievably small. Wish we had a few more days to enjoy the place. Would definitely return. Great value.

We arrived from Arusha and then we take a boat to Zanzibar. This place was logistically perfect to do this trip. The town is very small and there are not too many accomodations. We think that is the only normal comfortable accomodation for an occidental person. This is a nun hostel. For this reason is essential, but clean and very functional. There is also a restaurant inside and it is also very chep. In the morning you can go to the beach. The ocean is just in front of the hostel. The nuns speak english. Seems to be in the colonial eve! The nuns are very kind and caring.

about 10 min walk from the "dala dala" drop off point from Tanga. if your not sure ask at the post office for rasta ally . he will help to arrange a drop off or walk you to your hotel. rooms are basic with toilet/shower , fan works didnt bother with the upgraded $ a/c rooms since power occasionally went out, theres no hot water, but the sister who runs the place keeps it clean and safe. food decent and reasonably priced , cheapest option in Pangani for being on the water. great area for swimming and camping also available here. miles long beach/tides for long day walks on sand bars. beach was clean and not much garbage in sight that was a nice change from the beaches in Tanga. and great spot to catch a boat to Zanzibar. roosters may get you up early, bring earplugs.

If you like a local place close to the beach, this is the best place.
It is not luxury, not expensive, very tanzanian. It is clean, people is kind, food is very good, the beach is very close, the place is relaxing, quiet and beautiful.
And most important a lot of tanzanian go to have relax there so you can really be deep in the country and you can help a local community. Enjoy it!

I planned on staying just one day but ended staying tree.
This is a fantastic, quiet, peaceful place just next to the sea.
The sisters were very helpful and the staff made you feel at home.
The food and drinks were perfect.
We were also lucky that we could witness a traditional wedding.
Look or ask for Mr. Hot Hot (Emmanuel) he was a great help in organizing trips and our crossover to Zanzibar.
