Detailed Reviews
Due to the large amount of rain on the Southwest coast of the South Is. we had to change our plans. This was a very positive thing as we had not planned on staying in Hanmer Springs. The Settlers Motel is situated in a quiet side street, the rooms were spotless with a small kitchenette. We had a king size bed which was super comfortable. The owners were very helpful with MTB ride suggestions and restaurants.
I would definitely stay here again. They also have a free laundry for guest use which is great when you have daily bike clothing to wash. Booking directly with them meant that we got a few extras like restaurant coupons which was well worth it.
Great little town for MTB, nature hikes and adventure.

Without doubt one of the favorite places we stayed during our 2 weeks travels in New Zealand.
Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed at the reception by the owner, nothing seemed too much trouble - so friendly.
Apart from the great hospitality we loved the attention to detail, cleanest place we've ever stayed, layout spacious and very comfortable, it really felt like home. The motel is conveniently situated walking distance to the Hamner Springs thermal pools and close to the centre. Thanks for a great stay.

This is a Boutique Motel off the main road but in walking distance to town. The owners are so accomodating and helpful especially allowing us to wash down our bikes after we went off exploring the many cycle trails within the Hanmer Forest. Our room was compact but had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. A well equipped kitchenette, bathroom and even a lounge area. Also impressed with the guest laundry which was free with a clothes line out the back. Umbrellas in each room came in handy as well. I would highly recommend this place and it is great value for the money.

Antony and I enjoyed our one night stay in the Settlers Motel, the one bedroom apartment was spotless, with a kitchenette and a king size bed and a separate lounge to watch TV. Sally was very friendly on arrival with tips on things to do in Hanmer Springs and where to eat for dinner. We ended up eating at the Old Post Office Hotel. The food was amazing and at an excellent price. I did some nature walks and it was so beautiful being out in the woods. We also loved our coffee in the kitchenette with supplied milk as previous places we had stayed in did not supply enough milk. We will definitely be back one day on our next visit to NZ.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on Settlers! It is much appreciated. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for the review on the Old Post Office restaurant. We can pass that on to other guests. We are very lucky to have the Heritage Forest at the end of our street and a short walk through to the Forest Carvings (large and small creatures carved from a Californian Redwood tree). It is certainly good for the soul to spend time in the forest and soak in the fresh air and bird song. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future and maybe stay an extra night!

Settlers is quite probably the best motel in its price bracket that we have stayed in. Cleanliness was of a high standard but the standout feature was probably how well equipped it was - virtually everything you could need in a motel was provided ( even sticking plasters!) - far in advance of any other motel we have used. Add in superb hosts and it makes for a very pleasant stay. Thanks team. : )

We stayed here for 2 nights in a one bedroom apartment that was located upstairs. Staff here were friendly and welcoming and made us feel at home. When we got to our apartment, it was already warmed ready for us, there was real milk in the fridge (not that UHT stuff), and chocolates on the bed. Lovely touches that make all the difference. The whole apartment was also spotlessly clean.
There are not that many stairs to climb, but it was worth it for the better view from our apartment. We had a small balcony on both the lounge room and the bedroom, with a view across to the mountains.
We loved the location, being back from the main street, but walking distance to everything in town, so it was very quiet. The furniture was comfortable - often not the case in many places. The bed was comfortable and we had a TV in there as well.
We had tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits provided. The kitchen was well equipped, including salt and pepper, and oil spray. The bathroom was cosy, but had a heated towel rack, a skylight, and a shower that was hot with good pressure.
The Wi-Fi was fast and free. An absolute must when you're trying to upload photos of this beautiful location.
An added bonus was the provision of towels to use at the springs and spa around the corner. Saves having to bring your own, or using the ones from your bathroom.
Overall, we loved our stay here and will definitely stay here again the next time we visit Hanmer Springs.

We frequent Hanmer regularly but this is the first time we have stayed at Settlers and it certainly won't be our last.
As ex moteliers we were impressed with the spotlessly clean units and the attention to detail with everything you need and more.
Linen was lovely, super comfy bed and a friendly team of staff.
The bonus after being on the road for a while was complimentary laundry facilities.
Awesome location and highly recommend Settlers, you won't be disappointed.
Look forward to seeing you again in November when we will be back.

I'm not one to normally review, however credit where credit due.
We had spent 3 days cycling from St Arnaud via the St James and needed to take refuge from the incoming weather for 2 days.
We didn't have a booking.
Alan was outstanding , he found a suitable room for 4 of us, provided secure parking for our bikes and went out his way to accommodate our needs.
The room was immaculate and sumptuous. He provided free washing and drying machines and took a genuine interest in our stay. I was recommended your motel by another cyclist on the trail and they were spot on
I travel often for my work but rarely receive such service.
Well done Alan and the team .5 stars.

Didn't know what to expect being the Christmas period and spending Christmas day in Hanmer. The settlers Motel definitely Exceeded expectations. BOOKING AGENT advised a bed splitting fee for the siblings sharing a room only to be told by the hotel their furniture couldn't be split. No stress uprated us to a bigger unit so they could put in a single bed at no charge. Even opened the laundry for us on Christmas day (weren't supposed to be working) but come down.

My wife booked us in for a Post Covid trip. The room we had was a studio, with a Queen bed. From the moment we arrived to be greeted by a welcoming owner (I assume) the whole stay was pure quality. The bed was firm and supported my dodgy back really well. The chocolates left after the bed was made each day was a nice touch, and the DVD collection at the office for guests was a nice touch. We enjoyed an old school movie each night, while using the SKY sports channels to watch sports and also check the Sky Movie on offer. Location was nice and close to the pools, and the complimentary towels for the pools was great. The other plus was an actual decent couch in the room, something often no present in a studio. Free laundry as well. Will come back here for sure and recommend it!
