Detailed Reviews
This just has to be one of the best places to stay in New Zealand
Returned after eight years to the warmest of welcomes and unbounded hospitality.
It is so easy to be disappointed returning to a place you have enjoyed so much, we must say it was even better.
It has been an absolute joy to stay at Cheltenham House again

Very nice guest house with a huge garden. The room with a small winter garden was spacious, the bathroom was rather small and cramped. Everything was very clean and tidy. The location to the center and restaurants is perfect. Unfortunately there is no breakfast available here.

Lovely unit with bedroom and ensuite in beautiful garden. Walking distance to food, Hot Springs and walk. Very comfortable unit. Had two nights and experienced a big storm the second night which wiped out power. Maree was a lovely, attentive host and helped out with supplying us with hot water when power failed due to storm.

We had a wonderful time at Cheltenham House. We stayed in one of the garden rooms, which was very nicely decorated, and had everything we needed (including a comfortable bed). Great to have the little extras like underfloor heating, robes, and towels for the hot pools. When we arrived, we were greeted by Marie (one of the owners) who is very friendly and welcoming. The location is excellent - so close to walk to local restaurants, hot pools and shops.
We would definitely stay at Cheltenham House again if we return to Hanmer Springs.

Great quiet spot for a stop in Hanmer springs. We had the garden cottages and it was peaceful and secluded. Hot springs, shops, restaurants and coffee all less than 5 mins walk. Also - direct access to walking trails at end of road.
Accommodation was great, clean, spacious and well maintained. Fully recommend

We loved this place and wish we could have stayed longer. Marie, the owner, and her husband, take their roles very seriously. You can tell that their guests’ comfort is their top priority. We stayed in one of the two cottages. It was delightful. Tastefully furnished and very comfortable. Breakfast is brought to you in your room. The choices are amazing—pancakes, eggs, fruit, toast, juice, coffee/tea. It was such a treat to have that wonderful breakfast brought to us. Oh, and I shouldn’t forget to mention the happy hour with NZ wines. It’s a great chance to meet your fellow travelers.

This is our second stay at Cheltenham House, and we found it as charming as the first. Maree and Len, our hosts, are gracious and attentive. The guest facilities are comfortable and tasteful, with antique furniture and original art. Our suite is amply resourced and warm, the garden well tended and charming in its autumn colours. The attractively cooked breakfast set us up beautifully for the day's adventures. The property is quiet, secluded, and yet less than a block from the village centre. Forest walks and cycling opportunities abound. Altogether, it made for a very satisfying two-day stay. We will be back!

Lovely studio surrounded by honeysuckle and other flowers in a garden. It's within walking distance of the Springs and restaurants. There's a little outdoor table we sat at for wine . Refrigerator and glasses provided and roomy bathroom. Clean, comfortable and perfect for relaxing visit. Owner provided maps and track suggestions.

We stayed here for the first time after going to Hamner for years. There is nowhere better to stay. The hosts were so welcoming, the room was warm and cozy. Faultless.
See you again next year for our winter break.

Just a one night stopover and this place was superb. We stayed in one of the garden units. Nicely appointed and the service on arrival was fantastic. Nice and close to everything you could want in Hamner. Well worth staying.
