Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Excellent motel, handy to shops and the hot pools (they even provide loan towels) but on a quiet side street, away from main road traffic. Friendly and helpful hosts, rooms are spacious and have all the facilities needed. Wish we could have stayed longer. Will definitely be our first choice when next visiting Hamner Springs.

Hanmer Springs is great for a weekend outing. it offers all kinds of trails and cool views, and the hot springs are sheer fun. Spending most of the time outdoors all you need is a nice motel for the night and that's what it is. Clean, comfortable and conveniently located for a decent price. Definitely recommended.

We came and stayed here for 2 nights for my birthday weekend. Lovely clean warm rooms with sky tv. We had a spa bath in our room and some lovely mountain views, I was just hoping it was gonna snow. Bed had an electric blanket on it, and room had kettle, toaster, tea coffee and everything you would need to cook a small meal not that we did. We would stay here again ☺️

Wonderful experience staying at the Alpine Garden Motel! The location is absolutely perfect! Two minutes away from the hot springs, great restaurants and cafes, a grocery store, and cute hiking trails. The service was top notch. You can tell that the place is run with a lot of love and attention to detail. Would definitely stay here again the next time I'm in Hanmer Springs.

My stay at the motel was from 27/06/2023 to 29/06/2023. I used the online booking system and had no problems making the booking. The price of the unit was reasonable and the proprietors' willingness to apply the Super Gold card rates was very much appreciated. A comprehensive information booklet was available on the coffee table. The unit I stayed in was clean, tidy, fresh, comfortable and warm. Warmth being particularly important for the time of year (New Zealand winter) and the location being alpine. Heating was supplied via electric heaters of which there were two and more than adequate to warm the unit up and maintain that warmth. A full stove was available for cooking. There was a good supply of plates, cutlery etc. I am making an assumption here, but there appears to have been considerable renovation work been done and continues to be done to bring the motel to a suitable standard. The carpet appears to be new as is the paint work. I stayed two nights and the room was serviced on the second day. The bed was queen sized, comfortable and there was plenty of blankets available should it have gotten cold during the night as it can do in Hanmer. Of course there was an electric blanket available too. The situation of the motel is private and quiet. Outside areas were clean and tidy with a nice outlook to the mountains. There was a picnic table available for outside dining and the only thing I can say, there would probably be a need for another one during summer months. All in all I can recommend this motel. The best accolade I can give it is, it will be our first preference when booking a motel in Hanmer Springs.

Another lovely stay at the Alpine Garden Motel. Great location. Easy walking distance to the pools and shops. Staying in Autumn this time, the unit was nice and warm. Great value for money. Instant coffee sachet still the same and not great but this is a minor negative

Excellent location, friendly staff, wonderful amenities! Be sure to read the welcome manual to learn about all the hidden benefits, like full-service laundry and free milk. If Wi-Fi is important to you, try to get a low-numbered room near reception. If you're lucky, you'll get to meet Indi the Dog!

My wife and I took a self drive touring holiday on South Island New Zealand from the 17th March to the 11th April 2023. Apart from the first 2 nights and the last night where we stayed in a hotel in Christchurch we were self catering and stayed in accommodation that offered cooking facilities. I have reviewed each of the hotel/motels we stayed in. The following reviews cover the accommodation and some of the facilities/visits we made on the trip. If you would like to view the rest of the reviews please click on my username and all my reviews will be listed. Days 26th to 28th of our self drive tour of South Island March/April 2023 Alpine Garden Motel Hanmer Springs. 4 stars We stayed in The Alpine Garden Motel in Hanmer Springs for the 2 nights 9th and 10th April. Welcome. We were welcomed when we arrived and given some milk. The owner was very helpful providing us with information about the area. The owners were helpful when we had a problem with our rental vehicle just as we were leaving. Service. We did not have our room serviced as we had our five cases littering the floor. The Hanmer Springs are about 5 minutes walk away and the motel owners provide towels especially for guests to take in to the springs. Comfort. The unit consisted of a lounge area with a kitchenette ,a separate bedroom with a double bed and a small bathroom with a shower cubicle. It was quite comfortable even though the main room was not as large as some of the units we had stayed in on our tour and seemed a bit old fashioned, even though it had been refurbished.. It had a very large sofa taking up most of one of the walls, a small table and chairs. (See photo) It had a large flat screen TV with Sky and some British Channels. The kitchenette had a large fridge and the only place we had stayed in with a full size cooker with an oven and electric hot plates. Despite the full sized stove with oven there was only a topless pyrex dish which could have been used in the oven. The one problem we found was that the worktop surrounding the sink was flat without a ridge (See photo) and there was no draining board or washing up rack. We had to put all washing up on a cloth to absorb any water on the crockery etc to enable it to dry.. Another odd thing was that there was only one bedside table. (see photo) Consequently one of us had to keep our book, glasses, clock, phone etc on the floor beside the bed. Location. The motel is very close to the town centre within walking distance of restaurants, bars and the Hanmer Springs. Cleanliness. The unit and the bed were clean and the bed linen a good quality. WiFi. The Wifi signal was very good and I was able to stream UK TV programmes using my VPN on my laptop. Conclusion. The motel was nice, but because of the size of the room and lack of storage probably more suitable for one or two night stays.
