I had the most amazing experience at the Vibrant Living Retreat from the moment I arrived being greeted by Steve in the driveway then Mary Jo as I knocked on the door that is always open.
This retreat is a must if your health matters, the hosts made me feel very comfortable and attended to all my needs, massage, nutritional needs, relaxation, meditation and special attention to me when I had a fall bringing my dinner (vegan raw lasagna) to my room and making sure I was ok.
I highly recommend staying at Vibrant Living Retreat & Day Spa if you are heading from the South from Picton or Nelson to Christchurch. Even if you just pop for a massage it's amazing.
My highlight of the time there was climbing Mt Isobel so many emotions from excited to get to the top, to scared of going down. I did make it to the top and down the mountain with some clever thinking on how to get down.
I hope to meet Steve, Mary Jo & Chara (helper) again as well as Magica the puppy.

We booked a cottage at special price of $209 pp at the Retreat that included massage ( 30min onle, but we extended to an hour paying extra $55), yoga in the morning and breakfast. The Cottage itself was wonderful, clean, spacious, warm and have had all the kitchen facilities for cooking and amazing tea/coffee selection, music and a TV. Steve has also brought oat milk that he makes himself for my coffee. The whole place is shining with relaxation and peacefulness. Steve and Mary Jo are very friendly and hard working individuals. They run a fantastic business and show a lot of care. There is a lovely dog that meets you first called Magica-a yoga dog! They were also able to cater for the vegan breakfast request from me and have a lovely breakfast options. Yoga was an incredible experience with Mary Jo in a room with a mountain view. The massage was very relaxing with Josephine, from Finland. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in search of finding or re-energizing yourself again and having some time off for yourself. They have beautiful affirmations to pick up and nice posters everywhere to remind you what life is about. I would look forward to stay there again. Namaste!

This was a 70th birthday stay with family - Steve the host made a special plant-based cake which was delicious, and there was a bottle of fizz in the fridge, as well as bunting. The venue is quiet, hosts friendly and helpful and I felt as if I had been energized when I left. The breakfast was beautifully presented, plentiful and tasty. The location is stunning with great views, very peaceful and calming. We will definitely return.

My father and I went to Hanmer for a small break from the city, wishing to support our local businesses and do our bit for the economy. I booked what purported to be a high end accommodation with a spa attached, thinking a massage would be great. The cottage hasn't been used since lockdown so should've been spotless. But there were massive cobwebs, the BBQ was growing mould on the cook plates and it was freezing. We put on all the heating, but the heat pump in the hall didn't work and nor did the heater in my room. A 60 minute massage was $125 - outrageous. I had a 90 minute one in Christchurch for $90.
The couches are uncomfortable, the place sleeps 6 but only 4 can sit round the table. The curtains are see through. It was just disappointing for the money, over $200 a night for 2 people.
The owner is very pleasant and I don't like giving a less than glowing feedback, but it's the truth!

We stayed in the cottage for a couple of nights in late July. We loved the welcome we got and the location. The cottage was spacious, warm, had full kitchen facilities & was set in lovely garden setting. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well.
There was plenty of room to wander around. Being outside of Hanmer itself (5 minute drive to the pools), meant that street lights were minimal and we got the best view of the Milky Way of our entire one month holiday in the South Island.
Being dog friendly, meant we had plenty of room to walk Luna around and to greet Magica, the owners very chilled dog. The retreat is next to the animal park, so Luna got to say hi (through the fence) to the full range of animals next door eg deers, horses, emus, etc.
Breakfast was vegetarian and fabulous.
Would definitely recommend staying in the cottage. Thanks again for a great welcome. Apologies this review has taken so long.

Vibrant Living exceeded my hopes. I stayed for a Personal Wellness Retreat. The food was fresh and beautiful. Vegan dinners were remarkable.. I wish I could replicate! The accommodation was gorgeous, comfortable and clean. There are little touches everywhere you look that simply make you smile. The place truly has its own vibration and you can feel it the moment you walk in and you take it away with you also. I would stay here anytime even if just for the accomodation.
Yoga and time with Mary Jo were both truly a beautiful blessing.
My partner also stayed randomly and they were very kind to accomodate this.

This was the perfect stay for our family of 9 including our dog. We stayed in the amazing Cottage & Spa Villa which were both clean, tidy, spacious & had all the amenities you need along with stunning views of the mountains. Great hosts who also gave us an early check in which was much appreciated. The owners dog Magica was a highlight for us since she is so cute/friendly & visits your room throughout the day. Bikes for hire was a bonus too. We didn’t have time to do the day spa this trip but we’ll definitely be back & book a massage next time. Awesome place to stay & highly recommend! Thanks again Steve & Mary Jo :)

We stayed in the lovely Green Room. This room is spacious and comfortable. With windows on both sides it had good air flow when needed, and a heat pump provided adequate heating. The bathroom is spacious and very high-end, with a good strong shower.
The host, Steve, was a lovely guy to meet and offered us some suggestions on local places to visit.
The property is tranquil and beautiful. I would like to visit again!

The real benefit of this wellness retreat comes in what it offers. A wellness retreat where you get yoga and meditation training, a daily massage and plant based breakfast and dinner I found to be great value.
The rooms are a little dated, but this is made up for by the room with a sauna and having a jacuzzi available.
All the people at the venue were fantastic. Can't rate them highly enough. Victoria, Filip and Michelle.

Hello Vivien, no our Green Room does not have a hot tub / spa bath. Just our Alpine Villa has it own private out door spa bath over looking the mountains on a private decking.
We offer the Villa and Spa with Breakfast or we offer spa escape packages to also include 1 hour massage x 2 people in separate rooms or couples room.
Check out our Vibrant Living website for more details. I am not allowed to post links here in my response.
Warmest Regards
Mary jo & Steve
