Kauri Lodge is situated 13 kms from Cambridge New Zealand in the lovely Karapiro farming district. Your hosts, David and Shona McLennan, have enjoyed visitors from all over the world and New Zealand, and will do their best to make sure your stay in the Waikato is a memorable and enjoyable experience. We are close to our lovely LAKE KARAPIRO, home of our Olympic Rowers, and also popular for water skiing, swimming, kayaking, jet-boating, river cruises and fishing. It is a short drive from Kauri Lodge to HOBBITON of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Cambridge is a beautiful "town of trees" and has many attractions including cafes and restaurants. An approximate one hour drive takes you to the famous WAITOMO CAVES, Raglan beach on the west coast, Mt Maunganui on the east coast, or to ROTORUA. We have a two bedroom apartment and also a studio unit at Kauri Lodge. Each bedroom in the apartment has a queen and a single bed, plus there is a single bed in the lounge. There is a very large private guest lounge, kitchen/dining area and a deck to enjoy the sunsets from. The studio unit has a queen bed and kitchen/dining/lounge (it is a different part of the farm from the apartment). There are impressive views of our farm and the Waikato Countryside and a deck where you can also enjoy a private BBQ. A short walk can take you to a beautiful native bush reserve. We offer Bed & Breakfast or you can just rent the apartment as a holiday home. We welcome children, and pets are also welcome by arrangement.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We enjoyed the comfortable accommodations and idyllic setting, overlooking a stunning, green valley dotted with lowing cows. Our hosts, Shona and David, were warm and welcoming (despite our rather late-evening arrival) and were very kind and accommodating during our stay. Kauri Lodge is located in an excellent central location for visiting the Waitomo Caves, Rotorua, and Lake Taupo, among other interesting destinations. We recommend Kauri Lodge for anyone looking for a homey, rustic, farm stay experience. Thank you, Shona and David!

This place has a very nice feel to it, it's on a farm, unfortunately we didn't have time to look around much, beautiful views though, close to Hobbiton. Friendly host, lots of pets greeting us when we arrived. A very spacious two-bedroom apartment. Loved the bathroom with the heat lamps, excellent shower! Felt really at home there in the comfy bed.

We - two adults and two teenagers - really enjoyed our two night stay at Kauri Lodge. It's the perfect place to stay if you're going to Hobbiton and that's why we picked it in the first place. But the real plus with the place was to be so warmly welcomed by the owners, their dogs and cat and to get the chance to join them when it was time to feed the cows and take care of the horses. And I must say: the sky is amazing during night! I've never seen as many stars or the Milkyway like this anywhere on Earth! This is absolutely a place we will stay at again if we go back to NZ.

Libby and her husband Jim are very warm and special people. Their passion for gardening and animals reflects in the way they run their farm. Special thanks to Dante the horse, lucky and clover, the cows for the photos and horse rides.

It's so lucky for us to find the lovely place via TripAdvisor. The reviews are true! This place is what Kiwi hospitality at its best. Jim and Libby were wonderful hosts. The room and beds are comfortable and clean. It's very quiet at night. The view from this lodge is amazing. You can see morning mist arising from Wakato river miles away. Libby also took us (parents with two kids) to see her beautiful farm in the next morning. My kids loved the horse riding and feeding cows with the lovely hosts. Oh, they also enjoy playing with their friendly black Labrador Retriever Gary. Thank you Libby. (One small thing: we found about 5 flies, and one honeybee in our studio, but I thought it's normal in a farm.)

Thank you!! We love to hear that our guests have enjoyed their stay. I get a lot of pleasure from seeing people, especially kids, enjoying the farm and the animals. So glad you liked out lovely view. Yes, we do have a problem at this time of the year with the wee grass flies - they just keep coming! Thank goodness they have started to slow down a bit now with the colder weather coming. And of course we love honey bees - sorry to hear one ended up dead in the unit!!

We had an amazing stay at Kauri Lodge. Both Jim and Libby were very hospitable and friendly, the accommodation is comfortable and provides great views of the rolling hills and farmland, not forgetting the adorable dogs, cats, horses, and cows! The location is also convenient for tourists looking to visit Hobbiton. Highly recommended!

We loved our stay at Kauri Lodge! The property was beautiful and the room we stayed in was excellent. We spent 2 nights in the studio space and we wished we could have stayed for ever! The kitchen was supplied and the beds were comfortable. We could walk all over the farm and watch sunset right from our porch. Libby and Jim were so kind and showed us around, one of us even went on a horseback ride with Libby one morning. The best part may have been their 4 dogs who were so friendly and greeted you with love. We stayed here to be close to Hobbiton but we found our own little shire right there! We can’t wait to come back!

After a long trip from the states we were looking forward to a peaceful night before continuing on. Kauri Lodge was the perfect place surrounded by green hills and very peaceful. Libby was a wonderful host taking us for a tour of the property and woods as well as getting to feed baby cows. We also left behind a shirt which she was very kind to send to our hotel which we are very thankful for. We also loved the dogs and cats as well. We still talk about this stay as we continue on through our vacation as this was one of the highlights of our trip.
