We couldn't have asked for more. Such a lovely reception from the start. we had a pull out sofa in the lounge for the kids and I wasn't sure if it would be any good - but it was wide and strong and comfortable. They have upgraded everything to make this place very clean and comfortable down to having USB charging ports in the lights in the rooms with alarm clock too. The bathroom was large. even the grass with the break out space was prickle free and inviting. Small touches everywhere to make your stay pleasant even with percolated coffee and plunger.

Hi Forest NZ, It does my heart good to hear such great things about your stay. We have really worked hard in the last year since taking over to lift the standard and give the rooms a decent upgrade. We would love to have you stay with us again, so please let us know if you're ever back this way. Best wishes, Cristal Montgomery.

Travelling back to our home we decided to stop in Cambridge for a nights rest, Cambridge Mews is very easy to find, it was spotlessly cleaned and very quiet. we bought Thai from a local restaurant and sat in the lovely garden setting to enjoy our dinner! Relaxed and after excellent night’s sleep we continued home. We travel a lot, and we will stay again 10/10! Highly recommend.

We stayed with a group in a 2 bedroom unit and it was huge!

The unit had a great living/dining area with pullout bed, huge bathroom with spa bath, the main bedroom was also a very good size and there was another toilet upstairs. The unit was very clean and nicely decorated.

The location is quiet and an easy walk into town. Great value.

My sister booked a two bedroom apartment for her and a friend (they slept in a room with twin beds).
My partner and I slept in the room with the queen bed.

We were in Cambridge as our father had died.

Following the funeral and burial we got back to the motel where we were hassled by the owner and told we had to pay for the 3 extra people as my sister had only booked for 2 people. She was under the impression she was booking a two bedroom apartment for 4 people.

But the owner insisted we must pay for extra people because they had to wash the linen.

They provided no extra linen.

Absolutely staggered at her timing and her attitude towards us.

We had just buried our father an hour earlier.

Paid her the extra money but was horrified that the owner treated us that way at the most extremely stressful time in our lives.

I have stayed here before several times but I will never stay here again, nor will I ever recommend it again as I have in the past.

Empathy and sympathy are non existent at Cambridge Mews.

GENERAL COMMENT: We are not going to directly address the feedback made by the registered guest’s family member. Suffice it to say there are two sides to every interaction and we understand that she was upset due to the family circumstances. Unfortunately, we have received the brunt of this over a minor issue which could have been easily sorted. We have been through the loss of two parents in December, so of course we have sympathy and can empathise – we wouldn’t have such good ratings and comments if we stormed around the motel demanding this and that and the next thing from guests as she has implied. Our other feedback clearly speaks for itself, and our guests have acknowledged and shown through their reasoned opinions, that we have a lovely clean motel, that is comfortable and well cared for. They also describe our interactions with them. We never want guests to leave our motel unhappy, but sometimes if there is an issue, and especially if personal circumstances and stress is involved it can be beyond our control. We understand this and the reason for it, although it is no excuse for blatantly misrepresenting circumstances – especially when this person had nothing to do with making the reservation or the phone call made to the guest regarding the stranger attempting access to the guests room. We are disappointed that this person has chosen to stir up reactions at an already heightened time, and then disparage us and our business publicly, instead of helping her sister sort things in a calm manner. We are always respectful of guests’ privacy and will immediately notify guests if there is an attempt by anyone unbeknownst to us to gain access to a room. We will do this even if guests are staying with us to attend a funeral in Cambridge. We will also address the issue of a discrepancy between the number of guests booked for in a reservation and the actual number of guests that stay where we become aware of such a situation. We have experienced some guests deliberately booking for fewer guests attempting to pay less than the fair and advertised rates, and we also understand that sometimes circumstances change at short notice. We have obligations under the Health & Safety Act, and there are important reasons for holding occupancy information and ensuring it is accurate. It is also important that we understand the usage of our rooms as additional work is required in terms of linen changes/ordering and cleaning, variable expenses (such as electricity and amenities provided) and increased chances of general wear and tear in the rooms when extra guests stay (busier/fuller rooms). Our booking system is clear, and right at the start requires the number of guests occupying a room to be entered. Once booked, a confirmation is emailed that indicates the room rate and the number of guests that the rate relates to, as well as statement that outlines charges for any additional guests. We are upfront and honest in our advertising of our motel and the rates we charge, and all we ask for in return is that guests are upfront and honest with us when making their bookings, and that we are notified promptly if circumstances change during their stay (which did not happen in this instance). If anyone looking to book with us is unsure of any of the issues raised in this feedback, of information displayed on our website, or would like to clarify charges or arrangements, then please don’t hesitate to contact us on 07 827 7166. Kind regards, Cristal and Andy Montgomery Below is our perspective on the situation if any readers are interested: We actually had minimal contact with the registered guest. On her arrival we met at check in to confirm the booking details and shortly after as we delivered milk to her room. At this time, she asked and we confirmed that even though she had bought her dog with her knowing we did not accept pets at the motel, we could not accommodate it. The last interaction that day was a request for the nearest cafés details, which were gladly given. On the second day, we placed a call to her to let her know that someone unbeknownst to us had tried to gain access to her room. It wasn’t great timing for the call but like all other accommodation providers, we do not request itineraries from our guests regarding their whereabouts and we note that her cell phone had not been turned off to avoid calls at that time. During the minute long conversation, it transpired she knew the stranger and he and others had stayed (including the person who has written this review), in contrast to our information confirmed at check in, and the number she booked for. For us, the situation wasn’t a big deal, as we had no problem with extra people staying in the unit as there was room. However, for Health and Safety reasons, we needed to understand who was staying in the motel. The issue of payment for the extra guests and their usage of the facilities and amenities, as we said to the registered guest at the time, could wait and be sorted later. Not as the person who has written the feedback has described as happening on that day at the motel, and by us “hassling" the registered guest and her family/friends. We have later discovered that they allowed their dog to use our freshly barked and landscaped garden to relieve itself, and was likely allowed into the room irrespective of our wishes and future guests comfort. There was evidence to suggest that smoking/vaping may have occurred in the room also. It is also disappointing that when this person came to reception on the day of check out (being the first interaction we had with her) she was not honest with us and did not disclose that these extra guests had also stayed on the second night. Which we see as a further clear effort to not pay the fair rate we plainly advertise and send out in our reservation confirmation emails.

This was a last minute booking over the phone during the Easter break, and I was pleasantly surprised to get a studio for the night. Booking a room over the phone was simple as was the arrival and departure process. When we arrived at our studio (which was just before dark) it was warm and welcoming with the heat pump and lights on. The studio was very clean and tidy and the beds were very cosy. This motel would rate a 9 out of 10 and would come highly recommended by me. For me it was the little things that counted that made a big difference eg:
- friendly and caring hosts ( nothing was a chore)
- warm and welcoming rooms on arrival (especially if arriving in the evening)
- clean and tidy with everything easily accessible in the studio

We stayed in a Studio room which was beautifully clean, well appointed and recently painted. The room was large and comfortable, and well stocked with all the amenities and utensils you could need for your stay. It's a great location close to the town centre and a pleasant bike ride to Lake Karapiro. The hosts were very friendly and helpful, and let us store our e-Bikes in their garage over night. We would highly recommend this accommodation and would rate it one of the best motels we have stayed in.

This motel is one of the best I have stayed in - it is very tastefully decorated inside, the linen is beautiful, the cleanliness is exceptional and everything you need is available in your room. The Hosts are very friendly and cleaning staff are obviously very efficient. Parking area is tight but there is available parking for each unit. The price is not cheap but reflective of current prices. I have stayed in more expensive ones that are far less in quality. Would definitely stay again and have no hesitation in recommending to others.

Hi - Thank you very much for posting such a lovely review of our motel. We have worked so hard to bring it up to a high standard before and through the Covid lockdowns, and the team work very hard to maintain a high standard when cleaning the rooms. We are definitely not a "cheap" motel and we know how it feels to come across great value for money. A guest once told us that "the price is forgotten long after the quality is remembered". All the best and we would love to have you stay with us again, Cristal and Andy Montgomery

For 3 days recently Cambridge Mews was our home away from home. Very comfortable recently renovated 1 bed unit had all we needed for a winter break. Super warm with a powerful heat pump, well stocked kitchen and well designed lounge area. Owners couldn’t have been friendlier and responded quickly and efficiently to any requests. Motel is convenient for Cambridge itself and also for main routes to Hamilton etc. Highly recommend this motel and it would be our first pick next time we need to be in this area.

This is our second time staying at Cambridge Mews, first in 2019 and then recently in September 2020. Both times the quality and standard of the rooms were great and the service outstanding.

On our second visit we were pleasantly surprised to find out that the rooms have been recently repainted, have full MYSKY access, new beds, couches and decor. The heat pump had been turned on prior to our arrival so the room was lovely and warm when we got there. The spa bath was a lovely way to wind down after a long drive!

Would definitely stay again and highly recommend. Thank you again for a wonderful stay! 10/10

Hi Rowena, You are very welcome! We are so, so happy that the changes we've made have improved your (our guests) experience at the motel. It has taken a lot of hard work and effort from "handy Andy" and planning and budgeting, but we really feel the beautiful buildings and setting requires an outstanding accommodation to compliment it. We look forward to seeing you again! Best wishes, Cristal and Andy Montgomery
