Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed in the Paddlehouse for a 9 day stay Dec-Jan (2023-24). I’m not sure if we got the best of New Zealand weather, but the lush green grounds and the pristine view of Lake Karapiro from our bed and lounge area were nothing short of paradise. David and Sue were non-intrusive and also super responsive if we needed anything. The perfect hosts in our opinion. Beds were very comfortable in both rooms, super large plush pillows, good water pressure in the 2 bathrooms, soft linen, all very clean and well maintained. The kitchen is a small galley kitchen but has everything you need for managing basic meals or a decent selection of takeaways from the restaurants about 10-15 mins drive away. Loved this property. Loved the area and the friendly Kiwis. A good central place to stay on the north island if Hobbiton (30mins drive) and Rotorua (1 hour drive) are on your list.

We had a wonderful time at this amazing property. We stayed in the Oarhouse Chalet and the views were beautiful! The grounds and property were immaculate. It is a very attractive looking chalet. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans etc. The cycle track started just across the road. We will be back!

We had booked into the Paddlehouse, but when we arrived we discovered that David and Sue had “upgraded” us to the Oarhouse chalet. The accommodation is excellent and very spacious, with “million dollar views” of Lake Karepiro. All of the facilities in the chalet are of a very high standard and it was very comfortable. This is such a stunning location and we really enjoyed relaxing on the deck watching the activity on the lake. We would unreservedly recommend the Oar and Paddle.

Absolutely exceptional accomodation in a stunning location. David has thought of every amenity you could need to make your stay truly wonderful. The view of the lake is breathtaking at all times of day! The property was immaculately clean and it was just an absolute dream to stay there. We loved every minute and cannot wait to return. Thank you!

Incredibly satisfying stay. The place is immaculate and with a very nice decor. The check-in process was smooth and Dave made sure we had everything clear regarding the place and appliances. I highly recommend it. When road tripping across NZ, it is a great spot to stay at!

Faultless accommodation and great host. Cannot find one negative thing to say about this property. Our two bedroom house was beautiful and had everything we needed. The owner was very helpful and accommodating whilst giving you all the privacy you could wish for. I would not hesitate in recommending this stunning property. Book immediately!

We only had 2 nights, and a busy time while we were there, but the Oar & Paddle was the perfect place to check in, come back to in the evening and wake up in the morning. The views of Lake Karapiro are amazing and the rooms very comfortable. We will definitely be back!

We had a beautiful weekend here and it is definitely a place we would return too. It is nicely appointed and comfortable, with everything you need in the well set up kitchen if you plan to cook. Gorgeous views to wake up to and lovely bathroom and a super comfortable bed. We both agreed we had the best 2 night sleep in months in the bed. The well thought out design of the cottage makes for easy relaxed living here. You can also walk along the path/bike way towards the rowing club and Podium cafe.

Stunning location and beautifully appointed. We had 2 nights there as a surprise birthday present for my husband. Quiet and peaceful and a wonderful getaway. Planning a girls weekend with my sisters later this year. Perfect! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone
