We are a family of 4 adults traveling on a budget, and as such our expectations try to match our budget (as the old adage goes: you get what you pay for). However, the Tucán Hotel in Uvita Costa Rica exceeded our expectations. It is clearly a newer establishment, with fresh paint and shiny floors, and like a newer business it has some growing pain to overcome. Yet, the design and layout of the hotel is practical and beautiful.
The travelers safety and comfort were clearly in mind with all the rooms centrally located, under a large metal awning on either side of a small parlor flanked by the reception area to the right and dining area to the left. In the middle are two hammocks, a koi fish pond, and a bookshelf full of books in various languages. A gate which closes at 10 pm, denotes the establishments name: Tucan Hotel, and their lovey black and white logo, reminiscent of the Ying and Yang symbol.
The pride the owners take in their establishment is evident in the attention paid to the smallest of details. The doors are weighted so that they softly swing shut if left open. The room came with AC at not additional cost, and there are power strips to accommodate a family like ours charging multiple devices at once. There is wifi, a laundry service, and a practical and delicious continental breakfast of fresh coffee, fruit, muffins, bread, m ham and slices of cheese is included. The urinates are individually kept in cloth sleeves, a nice detail. A lovely little hotel, at an affordable price which we highly recommend.

The Tucan hostel ist definetly one of the best hostels I have ever been in Costa Rica. The staff was very friendly and always willed to help. Thanks to the great staff, booking daytrips one day before was easy as well. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The pool area and the kitchen are nice and clean too. The main area is full of comfortable places to chill. My highlight were the hammocks and the cats around the chillarea.
The only thing which wasnt perfect was that the fridge (or some other machine from the breakfast area, I dont know exactly) made noise all night long. But you get used to it and in the dorms you won‘t hear that.
All in all I really loved my stay here and would definetly come back!! Thank you!

I enjoyed a spirit of a peaceful company. The rooms are basically furnished and you can use the shared kitchen. It‘s a family business and the staff is absolutely helpful. Also you can rent a bike to go to the beach.

Misrepresenting as a hotel. This is a single story disjointed structure. Had to pay in advance and not when checking out. No TV and internet is slow and is dropped all the time. No toiletries or hairdryer provided. No hand towel or towel rack in bathroom - just 2 bath towels. Very overgrown. Floors are uneven and people keep tripping on them. King bed in room left 6 inches on either side and filled the room, so no night tables or a chair and had to crawl in from the foot of the bed.
It is very clean and 2 reception guys are very good. Excellent air conditioning. Good breakfast included. Centrally located near to restaurants.
Avoid if expecting even a basic hotel.

We stayed at Toucan at the end of December. Staff is very friendly and supportive. The included breakfast is generous and local. Decoration is nice and the swimming pool welcome. Rooms are organized around the common area and might limit quietness until 10:00 pm. Overall very nice stay in this boutique hotel

The staff being extremely rude to me the second morning gave me horrible vibe and I cried but then my trip got a lot better once I left this place. Still my favorite trip here so far despite the rude comments made to me by Sebastian at breakfast . Calling a disabled person lazy is highly inappropriate. The facilities themselves are pretty good. I think the stuff just has a hard hard time providing good customer service consistently. I get it, it’s not the easiest industry to be in but if you don’t have anything nice to say, it’s better to not speak.

After 4hours travel by bus from San Jose we arrived at Tucan Hotel, very quiet and fresh in the nature. The welcome was very warm and professional. Pierre, the boss is very smart and available at any time for and info. The rooms are confortable with airco and well decorated with a sense of nature, jungle and seventies.

Great budget place in Uvita - definitely exceeded our expectations. The rooms are basic but very clean. But the community hang out space is amazing, with a great pool (and pool table, which we didn't use). They sold beers in the evening and free breakfast was pretty good. Wifi was strong, and it was an easy walk to nearby restaurants. You could pretty easily walk to the waterfall from here. We were a family of four, and it was one of my kids' favorite places in all of Costa Rica.

Quintessential Costa Rica. Excellent vibe, great food, great local beers, hammocks, a pool table. A full outdoor shared kitchen with refrigerator, cooktop, dishes, etc. Owner Pierre and his wife couldn’t have been nicer. Super clean rooms. Also close to town, waterfalls. What more could you want?

I stayed in a private room with two beds. I saw singles and I understand they have some dorm type accommodations but did not see them. It's more of a hostel type setting.
There are more places to choose from in the Uvita area.
