My husband and I stayed at Rancho Pacifico from February 8th-13th, and we’re still glowing from the experience! We were initially choosing between several destinations, but the allure of a boutique luxury resort perched high in Costa Rica’s lush jungle, with sweeping ocean views (including the famous Whale Tail at Uvita’s Marino Ballena National Park), sealed the deal. After reading countless reviews, scrutinizing photos, and exploring local offerings, we confidently booked—and we’re so glad we did.

Arrival & First Impressions:
Our journey was smooth from the start. Meeting our driver at the airport was a breeze, and we even paused en route to marvel at local crocodiles and enjoy empanadas so large and fresh they deserve their own review! Though the drive is a bit long, the breathtaking scenery more than compensates. Upon arrival at Rancho Pacifico, we were warmly welcomed with cool, scented towels and refreshing juice. Our bags were whisked away, and everything was thoughtfully explained to ensure we felt immediately at home.

The Resort & Accommodations:
Rancho Pacifico exceeded our expectations. The property is impeccably maintained, with crisp linens, fresh local flowers, and sweet details like tea lights for a cozy bath later. The staff was exceptional—always available for anything from arranging excursions to answering local questions—and genuinely friendly. By the end of our stay, it felt like we were leaving friends behind. Housekeeping was top-notch; we’d return from outings to find our room spotless, towels refreshed, and personal items untouched.

Amenities & Nature:
Every amenity was pristine—from the sparkling pool and hot tub to the serene jungle yoga pavilion where I could truly connect with nature. The on-site waterfall hike is a must, offering both adventure and stunning beauty. Wildlife lovers, take note: from our patio, we spotted daily toucans, hummingbirds, coatis, coons, and countless butterflies. The distant calls of howler monkeys carried on the cool breeze, adding to the magical ambiance, the constant hum of nature.

Culinary Highlights:
The food—oh, the food! Fresh, local, and crafted with love, every meal was a delight. I’m still dreaming of the coconut milk mushrooms and the unforgettable falafel. My husband raved about the sea bass and tuna tartare, and the passionfruit martinis were simply divine. V is the BEST bartender! The chef’s farm-to-table approach shone through in every bite, with accommodations made effortlessly for dietary preferences.

Activities & Experiences:
Rancho Pacifico’s adventure package added the perfect touch of excitement. We relished every activity—ATV rides, soothing massages, thrilling waterfall rappelling, and a breathtaking sunset horseback ride. Each was seamlessly arranged by the attentive staff and left us with lasting memories.

Final Thoughts:
If you’re on the fence about booking Rancho Pacifico, consider this your sign: go. If you’ve reserved somewhere else but keep glancing at RP, cancel and rebook. You’ll be grateful you did. With its personalized service, intimate setting, and awe-inspiring surroundings, many days felt like we had the entire resort to ourselves—a luxury beyond measure.

We left Costa Rica with full hearts, rejuvenated spirits, and immense gratitude for the Rancho Pacifico team. We can’t wait to return. The energy here is pure magic - Pura Vida!

My friend and I stayed at Rancho Pacifico for a few days in January 2025. Our experience was easily a 5/5. The staff was extremely personable and seemed genuinely committed to making our stay as pleasant as possible. On several occasions a staff member went above and beyond to solve unforeseen complications with our plans to make our trip ran smoothly. And due to the small size of the resort, the stay felt very personal and not crowded like it can be at a larger commercial resort.

We stayed in Treehouse Mono Congo and it was absolutely stunning. Looking at the pictures we thought they must be using editing tricks to make the room look more appealing than it actually was but in actuality the room was even more beautiful. The view of the jungle was breathtaking and it really felt like we were part of nature.

Also, the food was incredible. The chef varied the menu night to night but there was always something to blow us away. We unfortunately didn't do any excursions with Rancho Pacifico but the other guests we spoke to said their hikes and excursions were fantastic.

Overall, I would absolutely recommend a visit to Rancho Pacifico. We only booked 2 nights because we were apprehensive about staying in a "treehouse" and were afraid that it would be humid, buggy, and unpleasant. But being in the mountains, the bugs were nearly non-existent and it was a very pleasant 75 degrees. After our stay we spent the rest of the week at the Four Seasons Resort in Guanacaste and both me and my traveling partner agreed that Rancho beat out the Four Seasons in aesthetics, food, staff, and cost efficiency (our nightly stay at Rancho being about a quarter of that at the Four Seasons). Especially because Rancho exists in a true rainforest while the Four Seasons does not. If we ever find ourselves back in Costa Rica, Rancho Pacifico will absolutely be getting our business again.

The treehouses are a truly unique and spectacular experience. Tucked into the rainforest, you've got the best of both worlds with jungle and ocean views. Thank you for your compliments on the food, service, and value found at RP; the entire team works hard to create exceptional experiences, food, and service for each guest. My husband and I just left Rancho Pacifico and already I want to go back. It’s a small peaceful resort in the hills of Uvita (a bit rocky to get there but well worth it). The grounds and views from that high up are just gorgeous and falling asleep to the sounds of the wildlife is unforgettable.

The food was some of the best I’ve had in my travels, so fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The cocktails are made with premium ingredients and fresh juices (no overly processed sugary drinks here). With the resort being so small it was lovely to sit at the bar during happy hour and talk to the others guests and staff.

What to say about the staff….other than we are now family. From the concierge to the spa staff and everyone in between, they go out of their way to make your stay memorable. We laughed and we even cried while sharing stories of our lives and loves. Jason, Andrey and Teresa especially made our stay the absolute best and I will miss them when I get back home.

I highly recommend getting the adventure package and letting the staff curate everything for you. They take care of every detail and leave nothing for you to worry about.

Thank you Rancho for making us feel at home and we can’t wait to come back.

This was my second time staying at Rancho Pacifico. The first time I went solo and had another 5 star experience. This time I brought my family because I felt like it was the perfect location for a quiet refuge that would be accommodating for my parents who are a bit older and need a bit more attention and support. The Rancho Pacifico staff once again went above and beyond to make our stay beyond imaginable. The meals are 5 star-- unique each day, optimized for health and tailed to your needs (we had 1 Gluten Free guest with us who never went without). We stayed in the Whales Tail Villa (3 bedrooms) and it really is stunning. It's a tad higher up the mountain that the main building with a spectacular view that meets the clouds with the perfect angle for observing the Whale Tail Beach. It's perched up in the mountains and immersed in nature. It has a dip pool and ample space. Each level has its own bedroom so even with my family, we felt we each had our own section of the home.

I really leaned on the RP staff for assistance organizing the stay this time. The RP staff helped me book an ATV for a few days that they had dropped off and picked up from the hotel. They also booked tours and experiences for us that included horseback riding, scuba diving, snorkeling, beach trips, massages and more. Everything in a payment perspective was managed inside my RP account and I payed at the end of my stay. The Concierge team was my main point of contact in organizing the entire week and really simplified and managed the trip in its entirety which I initially thought was going to be very intensive to coordinate schedules.

I cannot say enough positive things about this resort. It is private, its discrete, its a hideaway, its a refuge, it really is a sanctuary but also a place that you can have celebration whether that be with your family, a loved one, a honeymoon or a solo expedition.

Rancho Pacifico is the must-stay destination in the Uvita area. There is not anything else like it.

This is the perfect location for The Bakari Foundation retreat coordinators to stay during our annual transformative healing retreats. This is our 3rd year using RP and the entire team is AMAZING and the VIEWS are like none other! The food is fresh, unique, and delicious and the rooms are so comfortable and cozy that you hate to have to leave them. The property is so safe you don't have to worry about locking your door. We love spending time chatting with the RP team and view them as an extension of our retreat team. If you're looking for a secluded location to unwind and get acquainted with nature, Rancho Pacifico is the place to visit.

My wife and I stayed at Rancho Pacifico during April and could not be more pleased with our trip. The positives of staying there are numerous, the most notable being the grounds the resort is on. Perched on the mountain over Uvita, the vistas are breathtaking, with modern and clean open-air facilities abound. Each room/bungalow feels secluded from others, offering a sense of privacy and a feeling you’re the only ones there. The gym is small and hot, but there’s enough there to get a good sweat in. What’s particularly cool is they have their own hiking trails right off the facilities, with no transport needed. The chefs do a bang-up job with breakfast, lunch, and dinner based on your dietary needs with fresh ingredients and exquisite recipes.

What we appreciated the most was the attention and care the staff gave us. Since it has a smaller capacity (20 people max or so), each staff member caters to your needs and is very friendly to interact with. We didn’t have any activities planned and didn’t know what to expect, but RP makes it quite easy to plan your trip on the fly with a preset list of activities (fishing, waterfall repelling, etc.) to choose from. This really took the out the stress of planning and transportation.

It is a bit of a hike to get there (~3.5 hours from San Jose airport) and the 15 minute drive up and down the mountain is bumpy and expensive as you’re charged for the taxi service each time. However, the location, the facilities, the service, and the staff make it worth it 10/10 times.

We are still talking about the trip and couldn’t recommend it highly enough for adults (no <18 kids allowed) who want to find the perfect balance of relaxation and adventure without the stress.

If you are looking for a quiet place to escape and relax look no further! Husband and I stayed in the Villa Romintica for 5 nights and loved every second of it. The people, the food, the villa, everything was what they described and more!
They do have a free shuttle that can take you to the beach and around the local town. It can take you down at 10:30 and then pick you up at 1:30 (if you want to leave before or after that it will cost $35). We went to the beach one day, the Saturday Market, and the waterfall!!
They are NOT Joking about the climb to get up to the resort. The drive is about 15 mins and you have to take a 4*4 vehicle. Thank goodness we didn’t try to drive up it ourselves.
We did the hike to the waterfall near the resort. They are also not joking about how steep it is. Gorgeous and would do it again but take that walking stick! I didn’t think we would need it but I’m glad we grabbed it.
We did the 90 minute couples massage- AMAZING.

I can’t recommend this place enough. Worth every penny. The staff is sooo friendly and wonderful. Shoutout to Andrey and Jason- but literally everyone there is so sweet. When we were in our room we felt like we were the only ones in the whole jungle. We really hated going to resorts (sandals, etc.) that were just crawling with people. At Rancho Pacifico you go to dinner and see like 4 others couples. Where else can you be treated so wonderfully and be so secluded?
We hope to be back one day!! Thank you for everything Rancho Pacifico!

Exceeded Every Expectation

My wife and I booked the honeymoon package, and added one night, for a total of 7 nights in the Hermosa Suite. Our package included 3 excursions, all meals, and all transportation.

This resort exceeded every expectation.

The staff is amazing. Great people that we truly enjoyed meeting. We can’t say enough positive about this great group of people. They care about this place, and their guests, and it shows.

This is not a party place. This is a beautiful, romantic, and quiet space. The room was perfect. We never heard other guests or staff while in our room. Once we entered the room, we had complete privacy. The only sounds are from the rain and surrounding jungle. It was peaceful perfection.

We ate all meals on the resort. The meals were exactly what one would expect from such a place. Creative, fun, fresh, and delicious. Outstanding work by the chefs.

The excursions were exactly what we wanted. Would could not have been happier. We also hit the farmer’s market and a couple of beach trips. All highly recommended.

The big question we had was, is this place worth it. I can tell you unequivocally that Rancho Pacifico was well worth every penny. When you actually break down the costs, it’s a bargain considering the outstanding quality of accommodations, meals, transportation, activities, location, and service.

It’s the kind of place you see in movies and hope to visit one day. My wife said she felt like we were at a friend’s vacation home and not a resort. It’s that personal.

We give Rancho Pacifico the highest possible recommendation. It was incredible and made for the perfect honeymoon.

Thank you to all the staff! Amazing.

We chose this hotel as it was the only available 5-star option during the New Year period. Its location near the top of the mountain means that reaching the main road takes about 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the weather conditions. While the hotel is rated as a 5-star property, it does not meet the standard I would typically expect from this category.

The room was smaller than anticipated and quite noisy due to its proximity to the restaurant and being situated below the pool area. Additionally, basic amenities such as slippers and other expected in-room essentials were missing.

On a positive note, most of the staff were very friendly, which helped make the stay more pleasant.

I will reach you directly by email for more feedback regarding the amenities that could be added to the room in addition to the minibar, safe, twice daily housekeeping, robe, coffee maker and complimentary coffee, and bath products. This was probably the best vacation I have ever been on. The Rancho Pacifico staff made our trip soo easy I didn't need to think about anything. All logistics, excursions, and food were taken care of. If we had an event before the kitchen opened in the morning, they made us a "to go" breakfast the night before to take with us. If the restaurant was in the states, the food would be of michelin star quality. The food was just over the top. . The staff give you a whatsapp number to communicate with the entire stay which they answer immediately if you have any questions or need to order that in-room guac. The staff went over the top to ensure we had a great stay. They even surprised us one day with a room decoration (not going to spoil the surprise). The on-site spa was great as well. I'd highly suggest making your next vacation to Costa Rica at this resort.

Hi stacyb993 - Thanks for your message! Rancho Pacifico is perfect for both relaxation and adventure. The dining package includes unlimited non-alcoholic beverages including specialty coffees and smoothies. It does not include alcoholic beverages. As you may have read in some of our reviews, we make some pretty amazing craft cocktails including our famous pineapple basil martini. Regarding transportation, if you plan to be out exploring and doing a lot of excursions, then we would recommend a rental car. One of the most convenient options is to let us arrange private transportation for you to the hotel from the airport, and then we can bring a rental car to the hotel for you the following day. If you plan to spend more time here at the hotel, then local taxis may be your best option - they can take you to all area destinations. If you have any more questions or would like to inquire about availability, please send us an email or call us at 1-800-460-2383. We hope to see you soon! - Mark

Hi landladyw - I see some of our previous guests have already answered your questions. I can confirm that the beach is about 15 minutes down the mountain. We offer a free daily shuttle to the beach that leaves RP mid-morning and returns early afternoon. If you need more flexibility, local taxis are available or we can arrange to have a rental car delivered to you at the hotel. Please let us know if we can help you further as you plan your trip! - Mark

Hi Melissa, I see that several of our previous guests have already answered your questions, but I can confirm the responses for you. We have very few mosquitos here. I don't know why but they aren't a problem. At 2,000 feet elevation, the air temperatures are ideal - comfortably warm in the day time and comfortably cool at night. Three of our accommodations have AC, but it is really not necessary here. The treehouses are very private, and our staff never walks up to any room where guests are present. The walk to the common areas from the treehouses is about a minute or two. We are happy to accommodate any dietary needs or preferences. Please feel free to contact us directly if you have further questions! We are looking forward to helping you celebrate your anniversary! - Mark

Is surf available within walking distance and is yoga offered there? Thank you!

Sunniekate - Although your question was posted a while back, we are posting a new answer now to update future guests on some exciting changes at RP. We are now offering yoga retreats featuring our new ocean-view yoga deck in the rainforest. It is a truly special experience. As for your question about surfing - this is a surfer's paradise with breaks for all skill levels and warm water. It's about a 15 minute drive down the mountain to the beach. There are several surf shops renting boards and accessories.

We stayed in a Luxury Spa Suite and the Hideaway Treehouse. Both were excellent!
