The Flutterby House returns after a few years resting, with the same good vibesis a sustainable eco-friendly hostel, bar, and restaurant located in Uvita, Costa Rica at the edge of Marino Ballena National Park. We private cabins and dorm rooms, and are a 5 minute walk from the beach. Our mission is to provide a safe, clean, comfortable and fun “home away from home” for travelers and vacationers. We wish to foster an environment that inspires creativity, self-discovery and learning, while living sustainably, responsibly and respectfully on this earth. We offer a chef’s kitchen, yoga deck, free lockers for the use of all guests and much more! We provide hammocks in the shade, comfy lounge areas, and parking, and have quiet hours from 10pm to 7am so that all guests and wildlife may rest easily at night. The Flutterby House turned out to be one of the favorite hostels that I’ve visited. The people here were kind and helpful with their advice about what to see and do. The rooms are simple and clean, and the setting in the trees—where I woke up one day to see a red macaw outside my window—was lovely. Although it sits near the edge of Uvita, the walk to reach the bus station on the main road isn’t far; even better, the nearest beach is only a few minutes away. So are some restaurants, but I ended up liking the food (and drink) at Fluttery as much as anyplace I visited in Costa Rica. It was a wonderful surprise to discover that the restaurant/bar’s TV carried that weekend’s NFL playoff games when I was winding down one night. I would definitely stay here again.

This place is just amazing. I was there with my mother for two weeks (can't speak one word Spanish btw). The people are outstandingly lovely, generous and in general have a great vibe. The food is affordable, fresh and veryyy good (we loved the fresh salad!). The houses are like a small village in the jungle that is just 5 min walking distance from the beach, so you can hear the waves, which is beautiful to wake up. Everything at Flutterby House was more than we expected and they even took care of a lovely dog we found on the streets and treat him with a lot of love since then. If you're in Uvita or close – come by and be convinced yourself. We would give them a hundred stars here if we could.

This hostel is honestly unlike any other! The staff are kind, attentive and more than helpful. The owners Pam and Kim go above and beyond to make sure guests are taken care of. The beer is always cold and the food is delicious (for the love of god, PLEASE order yourself the cobb salad - you’ll be glad you did)! I can’t recommend the Flutterby House enough :)

We booked for two of us a three bedroom private room and we wanted twin beds so this would be fine but they only had a double and then one single bed but the single bed was up a steep stairwell with a very small area to sleep in where if you raised your head you would hit the ceiling.
The first night was awful as some young lady decided to use the verandah we had paid for to sleep in and slept in the hammock near the other room to us and left her bags outside our room with dirty underwear everywhere leading to our room.
The toilets are down the steep steps from the tree house so if you need to go desperately then do calculate the time to get to the stairs.
The showers and toilets were fairly clear we thought
Breakfast you pay for but it is good and the atmosphere at night when everyone comes back from surfing is great but then later on people sleep on the sofas where you eat your breakfast and that is not fair and pretty disgusting considering you are getting up early for the tours you do.
Everything is paid upfront the lady was clear on that and they give you wristbands when you come which is weird. There was no parking any of the days we stayed.
The roof leaked in our room and we had awful rains that night so had leakages on the floor.
The laundry sheets have seen better days they were threadbare so a bit of attention is needed on this.

The is one of the coolest hostels ever...it was located super close to the beach (5 min walking tops!!) and the food was so good that we had to force our selves to branch out and try other places. The sisters who run the place have put a lot of work into making there dream come true and both Kim & Pam were always on property helping out and mingling with the guest. A real cool chilled out vibe that isn't to be missed!!

I didn’t stay here, just hung at the bar but the staff are soooooo nice and helpful! Fernando (I think that’s his name?!) is the owner and is an absolute doll. Shelby and the new Israeli volunteer (so sorry I’ve forgotten your name) are so sweet and I loved getting to chat with them. Oh! And Miguel is the absolute cutest puppy and you should hire him to keep attracting tourists into your bar. 😂 Loved the beer options they had. Thanks you guys!!

This place has a great vibe, fun employees and comfortable rooms. The only complaint I had was that it was so far from the "town" of Uvita and the buses. But it was super close to the beach. I would suggest it to anyone who has a car rental or a bike.

Food and cocktails were good and fairly priced. The cabins were rustic and gave an authentic vibe. Nighttime security guard was a relief. Mosquito nets and towels were provided. Great place for younger folks to stay as they work hard to include social activities there. Owner was very friendly and gave us nice advice. One of the best hostels we came across!

Flutterby is not for everyone but what a cool place and unique experience. The best part is the welcoming and friendly staff (shout out to Felipe). Once you’re there, you’re part of the “family.” The bar and food are great too. For other places to eat, you must try the Sabor Espanol restaurant nearby.

Hi Monty and thank you for your inquiry. You are correct, on the reservation page it just shows one single bed and the couch bed. Tom's cabin has been updated to include a set of bunk-beds in addition to the couch bed. Assuming there are two people sleeping upstairs, the cabin sleeps up to five. Please note the $80 listed rate is based on double occupancy and there's a $10/ person/ night additional charge for extra people. Thank you, Kim
