This amazing rainforest sanctuary retreat above the little town of Uvita was just remarkable. We’ve stayed at many special places all around the globe and this is our number one favorite to-date. We read earlier reviews about people who stayed and didn’t venture out from their villa, which we couldn’t understand until we got there.
We did explore CR each day and found this quiet location to be perfectly located near all the adventures we were seeking: waterfalls, snorkeling, hiking, beaches, national parks, and more.
The service at Golden Pineapple is astounding —- welcoming, gracious and authentic. We felt genuinely cared for, and each morning at breakfast, staff helped us curate our experiences for the day - we learned about many places we wouldn’t have found on our own.
The restaurant is top notch - unexpected for us foodies, given the relatively small number of guests. We had breakfast and dinner here nearly every one of our 5-day stay, and the poolside vibe is just perfection. Vegan? They got you covered with a dedicated menu. We felt spoiled!
Housekeeping was immaculate and invisible. Amenities were great! We are nespresso addicts at home and we’re very pleasantly surprised by the expresso machines in the room. Lots of options for snacks/drinks to purchase in the room, also super convenient.
We took a dip in our private plunge pool every early evening and relaxed for what we called “the 5pm show” of birds - toucans, macaws, and so many more that we couldn’t identify. The coatis also made a few appearances in the tree just outside our bedroom, foraging for breakfast. I’m sure they’re the CR equivalent of squirrels but we just loved them. One of the reasons we chose CR was for the promise of wildlife, and couldn’t believe how much of it we saw right outside our bedroom window.
Sunsets are world class, views of the ocean also stunning. Can’t give high enough praise for the culture that’s been created at this very special place. You do have to work hard to make it up and down “the mountain” and it’s worth every 4x4 moment. If it’s not already, this will be one of those places that books up for many months in advance, it’s that amazing.

So much to say about this intimately private boutique hotel. The adventurous climb up the mountain was indeed a fun feature of the trip (rent a 4x4 without a doubt and keep an eye out for the black/gold pineapple signs along the way). Our champagne welcome as we pulled up from wonderfully soft-spoken Marlon was a nice surprise. He gave us a quick tour of the space and we gasped at the view as we entered our suite. Our freshly prepared ceviche and mahi-mahi dinner served by Marlon and Tomi and our personal welcome from the owner, Jessie, by a beautifully starlit bottomed infinity pool was the first of 4 incredible days here. The view from both the suite and the restaurant/pool is spectacular overlooking the Whales Tail and Pacific Ocean. Each morning we relaxed and sipped coffee amongst the morning toucans, enjoyed top service from Juan and their inclusive breakfast (we highly recommend their eggs benedict with smoked fish accompanied by a pineapple mimosa), and listened to tree frogs sing each night as we soaked in our room's private splash pool. We made our way down the mountain 3 of the 4 days, venturing into Uvita, walking the Whale's Tail at low tide, sipping brews and chatting with Jason at the Bier Garten, enjoying the beef nachos at the Whales Tail Brewery (both on the way up the mountain), and stumbling upon a GIANT River otter at Cascada El pavon (freaked me out...so big I thought it was a seal). Upon departing, Marlon was kind enough to have fresh fruit and yogurt/granola ready for us since we had to leave super early Sunday morning to drive back to San Jose Airport. Jessie, the owner, has created an oasis of privacy and luxury in the Costa Rica jungle. We can't wait to go back.

We just left the Golden Pineapple and were blown away by the beauty and service we received. The trip up to the mountain doesn’t prepare you for the beauty of the views when you arrive. The location takes your breath away and the rooms are so modern, clean and fully stocked with everything we needed. The complimentary breakfast was delicious and dinners were even better. The chef does an amazing job. Shout out to the best team of Paolo, Leo, and Merlin who met every one of our needs as well as kept us entertained with their friendliness and kindness. This place exceeded our expectations and would recommend for anyone who wants to relax and enjoy this beautiful country. The main pool and restaurant area was great and our private plunge pool was awesome! I don’t have any negative comments or suggestions to make this stay better. Thank you Golden Pineapple team!!

First and foremost, have a 4 x 4 car when trying to get here. This is a requirement not a suggestion! However, once you get to the top, the views are breathtaking. Since these are more of an intimate type of villa, with only seven rooms, the attention to detail is unfathomable. the person who checked us in was also the person who served our dinner and our breakfast the next morning. He truly loved this place and he could tell by how much he wanted you to love this as much as he did. We stayed in villa number 2. The water Villa. Upon entering the room, we made it just in time to see the sun set over the jungle. The room had a nice king size bed, small living room, and kitchen net, then going behind the bed was your sink and toilet. What does Villa is really good at is it's outdoor shower tub and endless pool. The large windows and sliding glass doors to go outside to inside, expand it across the whole villa so you could see the outdoors at all times. It was nice to fall asleep to the city lights down below my work and the whales tail. The sliding glass doors were very tough to open and close, so hoping that those get put on a rolling track and easier to open and close. The tub outside, water fountain was leaking and made it hard for the tub to fill up quickly without flooding the space. They gave us an iPad to look over some of the activities and any amenities we could get while staying there. Which was a nice touch. I believe because it was at the top of the hill, and the thickness of the wires, the power went out at least 3 to 4 times per day and WiFi down at least twice during our 2 night stay. Usually is though the power kicked back on within a couple of minutes and we could easily turn back on the AC. I chose this place because of the breathtaking views, and I was not let down. It was great to be in the "jungle "section of Costa Rica and experience, some of the wildlife that they have to offer. The drinks and food were delicious, and I always try to eat local cuisine wherever I go. This was definitely a one off type of experience, as I usually don't travel like this to villas specifically, but if I ever do again, those villas, have something to compare to.
The golden pineapple villas was a beautiful space, and truly fell in love with every aspect of it.

Thank you for sharing, we are glad you enjoyed your first jungle experience. The power in the town can flicker on and off, this is a regular occurrence in Costa Rica. We apologize if there was any lack of continuity of the wifi during your stay and thank you for the feedback on the doors, we are changing the mechanisms which get corroded due to the climate, however it is a slow process through the villas as we try to complete the work without disrupting any other guests.

Amazing place. The villas are overlooking the ocean and the jungle and are build so that noone can see in your villa so you feel alone in the jungle, it is just awesome. The villas are really spacious and clean. The kitchen is well equipped and state of the art, you have a bathtub outside surrounded by vegetation so you feel like tarzan and jane :). The pool is infinity type and overlook the ocean, it evens lights up at night and settle a nice night ambiance. The service is simply incredible, every single of your needs are met and the personel is really nice. The owner has so much attention to details that it make all the difference (for exemple a black small towel to help with the demake-up, the beach towels are changed daily which is really practical as most beaches have black sand that stains easily, different type of lighting in each room so you can set the mood you like, you can whatsapp the hotel from your villa if you have any request etc...). You get a welcome drink upon arrival and can use the main pool until your villa is ready which is a real plus. The breakfast are simply amazing, everything is freshly made on the spot, you get several choices of smoothies, coffees and breakfast meals. We were on our honeymoon and they knew it and had a bottle of prosecco, flowers and chocolate waiting for us, it was so sweet...
But be aware you really really need a 4x4 to get there because the road is unpaved, full of rocks and really steep so that even with a 4x4 you are on the edge of your seat each time 😅.

This resort is phenomenal. The service, privacy, food, beverages, views, comfort....truly unprecedented. My first hospitality corporate job was at Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. This hotel easily meets their standards plus.
The owner, Jessie Rodgers, has created the perfect retreat from the world in this corner of paradise. Each morning we had breakfast included and were treated to culinary delights like we’ve rarely had elsewhere. The lunch and dinner menu are just as delectable. At night, we slept with windows open, fountain in our pool on, and peaceful rain forest sounds surrounding us on all sides. During the day, the public pool is delightful, and has views of the whale tail...extremely refreshing to use. The private pool in each villa is also an amazing amenity for the ultimate in privacy. The shower and bath are actually outside in a perfect rain forest environment. It was our 30th anniversary and Jesse arranged massages in the room and a four course meal served in our room.
All of that said...what makes this place over the top is the service. We felt like Leo, Marlin, and Anna became our family while there. Along with the owner Jesse, their spirit of hospitality combined with their attention to detail is something to be experienced or you won’t believe it. I would say they gave us the most relaxing and best vacation we have ever had. It was well worth what we paid to experience this lovely, stunning, warm, magical place. Thank you Jessie, Leo, Anna, and Marlin! Hope to see you again soon!

The villas are truly WONDERFUL. They are beautiful, they look very well built, designed and decorated with impeccable taste.
Optimal cleaning of the villas. The bed and pillows (very important for me) are ideal for optimal rest. The outdoor area of the villa is amazing (what do we say in Spain), the infinity pool and the views are wonderful!
The common area, restaurant and infinity pool are very good places too. Very delicious breakfasts and meals!, and the prices are very reasonable.
The environment... wow 🤩 another wonder, The location of Golden Pineapple Villas invites you to relax and connect with nature. We saw toucans, aracaris and other birds the three days we were there. And very close to us!
Regarding the staff, I would say that they are all very helpful and friendly. We had the pleasure of meeting Jessie and she is also a very approachable person. We especially connected with Juan. We send you all a hug.
In short, don't have the slightest doubt, it is one of those hotels where you wouldn't want to leave 🥰 I give them a 10 out of 10 in everything.
We would love to visit you again in the future.

We stayed here for 2 nights and had a sunset villa. The views, sunset, pool and villa were amazing. The breakfast is also really good and has a lot of choice including a vegan menu so all tastes are catered for. However, the reason that I can't give it 5 stars is because the track is borderline dangerous. We hired a 4WD as suggested and although the road to and from the villas was exceptionally steep and windy we managed to keep traction. The issue was with the track in the grounds of golden pineapple, we skidded and went back down the hill as the gravel has not been compacted, for the price charged this should be done as per the rest of the track. The other reason for 4 stars and not 5, are the owners. They do not acknowledge their guests, merely glare and therefore make the experience of eating really uncomfortable. In all other boutique hotels we have stayed at, the owner has introduced themselves once and were very polite. We decided not to eat in the restaurant after this as we were made to feel uncomfortable. Would we stay here again..........sadly not.

We are glad you were happy with your villa and the menu however I am so sorry to find out that I the owner did not get a chance to speak with you as meeting our guests is one of my favorite parts of the business. I typically speak to all guests multiple times during their stay however sometimes do not wish to disturb them if they are having a meal in the evening. My sincerest apologies that I did not introduce myself to you, I believe the night you were there we were training a new employee, so I may have been keeping an eye on the table to make sure the level of service was correct, which in hindsight I should have explained. Thank you for the feedback it was truly not my intention to make you uncomfortable so I do hope we one day get the chance to meet so that I may apologize in person.

The sunset bungalow is gorgeous and luxurious with a stunning view. Even with a 4x4 it was a scary ride up to the property...and part way you reach the brow of a hill and can't see what's down the other side! Awful road! But once you arrive at the property it's worth it. Our bungalow was totally private, you don't have to see or converse with anyone unless you wish to. And sitting by our pool watching toucans fly across the valley is something my husband and i will never forget. A black vulture flew down to drink from the pool while I was in it lol. Amazing experience. However, sadly we did not enjoy the meals we ate there at all (several reviews rave about the food so we had high expectations). Ceviche appetizer took 40 minutes to arrive when it takes barely 5 minutes to put that dish together! And when it did arrive we couldn't eat it, chewy and tasteless. For the entrée I chose pork and my husband chicken, both were overcooked and dry. Dessert was the best course, which also took a ridiculously long time to arrive considering it was just pineapple and ice cream! Breakfast was ok. We left the hotel feeling that this would have been our favorite hotel ever if only the food had been better. I still recommend the hotel overall for the sheer beauty and privacy. But give the ceviche a definite pass.

Golden Pineapple is a super relaxing place with beautiful views from the top of the mountains to the Whales Tale.
The Villas are beautiful, super comfortable and spacious, with high ceilings, infinity pool, grill areas, equipped kitchens, bathrooms and open showers, and with everything you need to make the stay a success.
We went to celebrate our birthdays, and we stayed 3 days there and the attention was first, Marlon and Juan were very attentive, always willing to help us and make us feel super comfortable. We were surprised with the villa decorated with a delicious cake and balloons!
Overall breakfast and dinner were very good, fresh fruit and delicious food.
The advantage is that the Villas are super private which makes it an excellent place to rest and enjoy.
I loved the experience and stayed there, and hope to return soon!
Thank you so much for everything!
