Detailed Reviews
Casa Di Pietra is a superb place to enjoy El Valle for a few days. The house is spotless and comfortable. The grounds are beautiful. Be sure that you are around in the early evening to have happy hour with the owner Luis. He recommended a restaurant we would never have found on our own, and the meal was memorable. Positives about the room: comfortable, open to the outside, good breeze, no AC needed, notably excellent water pressure. Minuses, albeit minor: must not be squeamish about a few bugs, must be able to negotiate stairs if on the top floor, only accepts cash. Although it's centrally located in El Valle, make sure you take Luis' map with you or you may have some trouble finding it. The minuses are not really significant...Casa Di Pietra deserves an excellent rating.

Luis, the owner, is a lovely man. He met us in the parking lot upon arrival, and Jose walked us up to our room. There is not an elevator so be warned, and the steps are interestingly fun to walk up but could prove difficult for some (only if you stay on third floor). Our room had a queen size bed along with a twin bed, and the balcony had two wonderful rocking chairs along with a table and two chairs. The beds have mosquito netting over them which we felt nestled under as we slept to the blowing winds of El Valle, the fan and the sounds of the birds and fireworks (there was a festival in town). Be forewarned that there aren't screens on the windows, and there isn't air conditioning. It reminded my husband of his summers staying with his grandparents when the nights were actually cool from the breezes and, yes, little bugs do come into the room. I have never stayed in a B&B room much less a hotel room without A/C and thoroughly enjoyed my room up in the trees. Luis would chat with us once we came back from our daily travels (in his house we would go to talk, and we met his friendly son), he provided us with delicious breakfasts (pancakes one morning and eggs the other), and we had a happy hour with the four other guests another night. The grounds are beautiful and lush, it is quiet and serene, and Luis made us feel at home. An exceptional place to stay when in El Valle.

My mother and I stayed at this lovely B&B and were pleasantly surprised at not only the hospitality but the grounds upon first arriving. I should back track and say that the owner, Sr. Luis Chavarria was an extremely gracious host. We got a bit turned around in our directions but Sr. Luis was nice enough to pick us up and give us a lift. Our room was quite comfortable, clean, and had a balcony overlooking part of the grounds, which are goregous due in part to their nice groundskeeper (with the "help" from his 3 yr old son ^_^) and the mountains (wonderful view as the korning fog rolls down). During our stay we were lucky to have the place to ourselves which lent the place an ultra relaxing experience. On one of our nights there, we were treated to an evening of wine and good company. Oh, and as for food, I don't remember whether her name was Juanita but she was especially nice and accommodating to our needs. The town is but a short walk, with restaurants, bakeries, markets/shops, thermal pools, hiking areas, hospitable people, more. All in all, if you will be staying in El Valle, this is most definitely the place to stay. You are sure to enjoy yourself immensely. Safe travels.

We stayed here for 2 nights on a 12-day Panama trip. Absolutely our highlight! Beautiful setting. Great birdwatching. Perfect base for walking around El Valle. Owner Luis & his son, Alfredo, are lovely. Don't miss Luis's happy hour: it's a great chance to meet other guests (we had fellow guests from the U.S., Mexico, France, Nicaragua, Colombia and Brazil). The breakfast was excellent, made and served by a lovely local Panamanian lady, right on the covered terrace of the guest house. We had dinner at L'Italiano in town both nights, and enjoyed it thoroughly. The Nispero Zoo is a short walk, and worth a visit. Tip: You can take the bus from Panama City from $4.25 per person. It takes 2.5 hours, but gives you a great local experience!

This place is a gem in El Valle ! I researched all of the places to stay in town, and I am so glad we chose Casa di Pietra. It is an absolute bargain for the quality of the stay. The grounds and construction are gorgeous, and the rooms are beautiful. The owner Luis and his family made us feel very welcome. They opened the wine cellar for us, we had a bottle of wine, and had the treat of sitting and talking with Luis for a couple of hours. They even brought us some cheese and salami to enjoy with our bottle. If you are headed to El Valle make sure you choose Casa di Pietra !

right near downtown el valle, the owner is a gracious host who provides a wonderful three course breakfast and will happily recommend excellent dinner spots. The grounds are park-like and create a bird sanctuary while the buildings themselves are made of stone with gorgeous wood from the indigenous "square trees". right near downtown el valle, but nestled in tranquility.

We loved staying at Casa Di Pietra. The owner is so friendly and helpful and really wants you to have a good time in El Valle. The rooms on the top floor are great and the decks are very nice for enjoying the wonderful scenery. We would definitely recommend staying at this B&B and would certainly stay again.

This is a wonderful and charming bed and breakfast at a fantastic value. The owner and his son were both very accomodating, and the rest of the staff was very friendly. I travelled with my boyfriend on public transportation, and was happy to find that their location is not a far walk from the main downtown and other attractions. The breakfast was wonderful, and the hotel is very private which was a plus for me. The interior of our room was romantic and roomy with windows all around, and we had a nice little balcony. The guest rooms come with a fan, which is all you really need to stay cool if you are in the room during the day. The bathroom has a hair dryer in it which was a pleasant surprise because I haven't seen many on my travels through Panama. There were so many little details that made this B&B such a charming place, like quaint sitting areas, a small pond in the backyard, and books to read in a common area; it was everything I had hoped for. You will be missing out if travel to El Valle and don't stay a few nights here!

We came here last August and I never got round to writing the review so here goes! El Valle is a lovely part of Panama, not as touristy as Boquete but with the same cool highland air and luah greenery. This was our last stop in Panama before returning home - we were here just 2 nights. The decor of the house is lovely, homey and quaint, we stayed in charming double room at the top of the house. Luis, the owner is a lovely man and really made us feel at home preparing delicious breakfasts for us in the morning. On the first evening we arrived quite late and weren't sure where to go for dinner so Luis prepared us a little Chilean red wine with a board of Spanish cheese and salamis - we were worried about the cost of this as it wasn't on any menu but the price was in fact very reasonable indeed. All in all a relaxing stay with a greast host in a very nice property - highly recommend this place if you stop off in El Valle!
Gave it a 4 instead of a 5 because cockerels woke us up, but this wasn't a major issue as we wanted to be up reasonaly early anyway!

We stayed only one night, unfortunately, but were charmed by Casa Di Pietra. The innkeeper Luis is a gracious host who welcomes you into his family. He lives with his wife and father in the adjacent house, and designed the inn building to maximize guests' views and comfort. Each room has a private balcony with views of the mountains. The grounds include a stream with ducks, tropical flowers, countless hummingbirds and other bird species, and two groups of chickens. The roosters did, in fact, crow -- there were at least 3 of them calling and responding to each other, starting well before sunrise -- and they did wake us up. But thanks to TripAdvisor reviewers this was not a surprise, and in retrospect it was charming in its own way.
The shower was large and the water pressure quite strong; the bed was very comfortable, and included a mosquito net should you want to leave the windows open. Breakfast (included in the price) was the best we had in Panama: mixed fruit, fresh orange juice, a polenta-like dish, omelet, and fried yucca, along with typically good Panamian coffee. Had we arrived earlier, we would have taken up Luis's offer for a cocktail in his comfy ground-floor lounge.
The town itself was much smaller than we expected, and during the week the town is pretty much closed down by 8 pm (we had a bit of a challenge finding dinner on a Wednesday night). But it's a beautiful location and no doubt worth more than an overnight stay. And Luis will surely make your visit a memorable one at Casa Di Pietra.
