Hard Rock Hotel Penang garners praise for its attentive service and vibrant atmosphere, often highlighted by its music and family-friendly vibe. The spacious rooms with modern amenities are well-regarded by guests, as are the hotel's varied amenities, especially the popular pool area.
Its beachfront location near night markets is also a highlight. However, some guests suggest that the value could be improved, pointing to pricey food and missing amenities, and call for enhanced cleanliness in the pool and bathrooms.

Hotel's Favourite
Had a great time staying here with my fam with 3 kids on tow. The rooms we stayed in are spacious, comfy, clean and more importantly, overlooking the sea. The hotel itself looks well maintained despite the number of years its been there at Batu Feringghi. Got the Rockstar privilege that entitles us to a less hectic breakfast and evening cocktail to satisfy the tea-time hunger pangs. Special shoutout too to your staff, Elsen of the Rockstar Lounge who has served us with great hospitality. Over coffee and hot chocolate for the kids, like a nightly debrief given by a local, Elsen will give us suggestions on how we can better our itinerary for the next day. He will also give us tips on how we can maximise our experience here in Penang which we gladly abided to. Thank you Elsen and Hard Rock Penang for making our trip memorable. Hope to be back someday!

Birthday boy choose to spend his day with Hard Rock Hotel and here we are!
They are doing good during RMCO. They will note down your booking details upon arrival and give you a call for collecting your key card so you are ready to go. It's not necessary to queue and keeping social distance. Buffet breakfast is still available but you have to place your order to the staff and they wil bring you your order including drinks.
Thanks to Irene for providing quick service upon check in and the special birthday amenities arrange by Sven, Bell and Ayuz. Great job guys! The birthday boy was really HAPPY and impressed.
We booked a Lagoon room which is spacious and the best thing is you can jump into the pool directly from your room!!! However, bear in mind you will be having "kids alarm" once the pool is open for the day. Haha!
We did receiced amenity bag for each of us consisting face mask, sanitizer and alcohol wipe. Feel touching...

Using the ‘grab’ app to get from the airport took about an hour and cost $26AUS.
Check in time was at 3pm but we were able to check in at 2pm. Nothing was really explained to us about the facilities but taking a walk you can see the pool, spa, gym, bars and pizzeria are all central. They put a hold of $350 AUS on your credit card and take anything you spend at the resort from that and release the remaining monies at checkout.
Rooms all appear to have beach views overlooking the pool. Room was a decent size for 2 people and was clean and modern with purple lighting. WiFi is not good as it is very slow no matter where you are at the resort. Mini bar with 2 free waters daily.
Breakfast was buffet and there was an abundance of vegetarian and meat options.
There are a few good restaurants when you walk up the road a few hundred metres. A lot cheaper and more authentic than the resort.
I asked the reception where I could get a cake from for my husbands birthday and they said they would bring a complimentary one to our room. It was a lovely gesture and the cake was delicious.
There are a lot of families here so if you’re looking for a quiet resort to relax by the pool this probably isn’t the one for you.
We would stay here again if we came back.

Stayed 2 nights to celebrate our anniversary from 7-9th November. From the moment we stepped into the entrance the guys from concierge are ready to help with our luggage ,sanitised them and took them to our room. Adrian at the reception warmly welcomed us and upgraded us to seaview deluxe room. He thoroughly explained everything in a very fine manner.
I really appreciate their safe & sound policy. They really went extra miles in providing safer, cleaner environment for thei guests. The room is clean and bed is comfortable. Everything is individually packed, even the towels. The pool is fantastic as always.
We went to Star Dinerz for the Saturday Night Live buffet and Eswaran ( I hope I get his name right!) was our favourite server that night. A total gem! The next day my husband got sick and I emailed the hotel regarding the food issue from the buffet and Ayuz their Manager on Duty quickly stepped up,and went beyond measures to make us as comfortable as we can. The chef even prepared soup for my husband and we are very grateful for this.
It was such a bummer because our last day is the start of this new CMCO and we can’t use the pool. The hotel is also quite empty because of this CMCO. I really hope they can survive this low season. For me I will surely return to this hotel once this CMCO ended.
Take care people! Stay safe!

Hey there, shireenMY! Thank you for this wonderful review. We're pleased to see that from the moment you arrived, our team was well on their way to show you a safe yet rockin' experience with us. The Safe + Sound Guidelines has been developed by a team of hospitality experts in partnership with EcoLab and NSF to provide enhanced cleaning practices, social interaction and workplace protocols while ensuring transparency through the hotel’s guest and team members journey. Glad that you noticed and appreciated the safety measures put in place. I'm sorry that your husband fell unwell during your time with us. After you reported he had fallen ill, we conducted batch checks on the food served at Saturday Night Live that evening and no contamination was found through those checks. We had 54 other diners who visited the restaurant that evening, and no other reports of illness were received. However, I am happy to see that our staff were quick to your husband's aid and was able to make both of you feel as comfortable as possible for the rest of your stay. Indeed, it is a bummer that the CMCO began on the last day of your stay but fret not, we'll be right here waiting to welcome you back when restrictions loosen up again. Rock On! All the staff were amazing, very friendly and attentive. Not so amazing was the room itself, i choose the seaview suite, which didnt really have a seaview, only a good view of the pool. For the price you are paying, the room felt very mediocre. The bose sound system claimed is just a small bose wireless speaker , but the room was very clean. Also the beach isn't really suitable for swimming, but then again there is a marvelous pool available. Also underwhelming was the breakfast at the lobby area. We choose to have our breakfast at the lounge instead after 1 visit to the lobby restaurant, thought the choices are limited at the lounge, the food served seemed much better in quality.

Hey there, Mohan m! Thanks for taking the time to review your stay with us. It’s particularly pleasing that you found the service from our team to be of such a high standard. Our staff pride themselves on ensuring that every guest leaves the hotel feeling like a rock star. Most of our rooms are facing the sea and have wonderful views. The hotel property is lined with Casuarina trees in certain sections as part of our extensive landscaping, and this does partially obstruct some views but also adds great privacy from the public beach. In regards to your comments about the beach, unfortunately this is not a private beach or hotel property, and is public land controlled by the local authority. The local authority is currently working on improving the quality of the beach along the entire Batu Ferringhi stretch, and I hope that when you return to visit us again you will see it in much better condition. There is also a notice that is placed at the beach front advising guests of the potential for jelly fish stings, as they are known to be present in the area. Some guests do enjoy swimming in the sea, but most take advantage of the large swimming pool the hotel offers, and with the sand base section, it's quite a nice simulation of the sea anyway. In regards to the food served at the Pizzeria restaurant and Hard Rock Cafe, I have personally shared your feedback with the Executive Chef & Cafe Kitchen Manager. The culinary team will do the appropriate training to ensure better consistency. Glad that you enjoyed your breakfast at the lounge, though! For a nominal fee all guests can enjoy the privacy of the Rock Royalty lounge together with all the additional benefits. Once again, thank you for your review. We continue to strive to ensure that every guest that stays with us has a truly rocking experience, and should you return to Penang we would love the opportunity to serve you again. Rockin' Regards, Michael Smeeton Executive Assistant Manager

We booked for 2 nights at the hotel. The first night we stayed at the deluxe pool view room and the second night at the roxity kids suite room. The poolview room was spacious and could fit our 3 kids. And you have the swimming pool view from the balcony which was really nice. Check in was a bit slow since they are 100% booked despite weekdays. It is not even a weekend but they are full house. The rooms were cleaned. All the towels, amenities and coffee/tea are individually packed for hygiene purpose. The roxity kid suite has a separate area for the kids bed. They have their own tv and also a PS4. You need to go downstairs to pick up the console and game cds. There were no kids amenities provided. Breakfast was below average. There were choices but some are not to our liking. The omelette on the first day of breakfast was not like an omelette. It was more like Malaysian telur dadar. But the second day breakfast, the omelette was good. Maybe because different chef. All I can say is, they could do better. Since it is still Covid-19 time, you need to order at the counter and they will bring your order to the table. It is not like a normal buffet. A nice thing I would say. We felt at ease not to touch the same utensil as the hundreds of people at the dining area. The pool was the highlight of the hotel. Our kids all loved it very much. There were also life guard on duty which was very good. Staff were helpful and friendly. A nice stay.

Hi MrsHazlin83, Thank you for taking the time to write us this rockin' review! We're thrilled to read that you and your family had a nice stay with us. Hard Rock Hotel Penang is indeed a great place to bring your family. The facilities and amenities we provide are largely catered to families with children and there's nothing that brings us more joy than to know that the little rockstars are having a great time. Thanks for your feedback on our breakfast. The Executive Chef has been notified on the mistake made at the Egg Station. He will be retraining his staff to ensure consistency. Our culinary team are always working hard to make sure our meals are of great quality and to everyone's liking. The breakfast spread is designed to appeal to a multitude of tastes and we're sorry that you did not find much to your liking. We’ve just launched a new breakfast selection which rotates daily so we do hope that you'll find more to your liking during your next stay. And yes, all menus are accessible through QR codes as a measure to prevent cross-contamination. Glad you found this to be a good method. Thanks again for the lovely review. Our stage is ready to receive you once again at Hard Rock Hotel Penang. Rock On! Michael Smeeton Executive Assistant Manager

Hard Rock Hotel Penang wasn't the kind of hotel that I usually stay but I was quite impressed nonetheless because of my love towards the sea and luxury hotel. While some part of the hotel might feel dated, but it still carried historical value that makes HRH special. I truly love this hotel mainly because of the balcony sea view that was a birthday gift from my partner. Also not to forget the access to the beach. I had a lot of romantic moment during my stay at HRH.
Overall, it's quite a family oriented hotel with a dash of youth's ambience from the decor and room's ambience that makes me feel like a rock artist. I also liked the touch from the staff considering it was my birthday to get a complimentary cake. It was quite crowded especially the holiday season during my stay and certain part of the hotel wasn't too appealing such as too much wet floors from swimming pool to the hotel foyer and the breakfast queue was very long (due to social distancing).
Speaking of social distancing, I think HRH did a very good job in following SOP and cleanliness of everything (e.g. wrapped towel, distancing people and tag to ensure customer is scanned, etc).
I quite like the food too honestly, though the selection wasn't broad but I get my basic American breakfast, mixed pastries, coffee and all, in the ambience that I find decent even though it was quite packed. Servicing was up to my liking too.
The only disappointment I had was with the parking space, I know during the stay, it was a full house but I'm also thinking this is due to the fact that there wasn't any system to ensure that one unit is limited to a certain number of cars. I had to argue with the security guard to get in and alas found myself a parking. I find it ridiculous for me to park far away and take a shuttle to be sent to the hotel especially it was raining. I would rather your team to provide valet service to handle such mishap.

So happy to read that we've rocked your world, kentkennyk! We try our very best daily to provide the same rocking experience to our guests, all the while maintaining compliance to the SOPs provided by both the government and also Hard Rock International's Safe + Sound policy, and it's always great to hear our guests appreciating our efforts across the hotel. In regards to the parking issue, I am sorry for the inconvenience caused. Although we do not limit the number of cars per room unit, the hotel only has 130 parking bays on site for the 250 rooms we sell. Hence, the parking space up the road with the shuttle service. Pre-CoVid19 times, this wasn't really a problem as out market was not 100% drive-ins but with the current travel bans and also guests who prefer driving up so as to enjoy a comfortable and safe journey over, we simply have insufficient space to hold everyone's cars. As for the valet service, in battle against CoVid-19, the Hard Rock International's Safe + Sound guidelines have asked all valet operations to be halted for the time being. We will continue to review this policy as we go along the battle against the pandemic. I'm sorry that this was not properly explained to you by our staff and we hope you'll accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused. We would love the opportunity to welcome you back to the hotel, and I am sure we can make it a much more rocking experience. Rock On! Michael Smeeton Executive Assistant Manager

We stayed here over new years and everything was great. Facilities and rooms are all top class and the beach and pool area are beautifully complimented. Plenty for kids to do here as well if you have them and the gym is well equip.
The room was modern with done nice touches like Bluetooth speaker and free in house movies to make your stay more comfortable.
Breakfast choices were very good in fact we enjoyed every meal we had at the hotel, especially at hard rock cafe where the portions were huuuge. We actually dined here for new years eve and the set menu was faultless. New year's eve party was very good indeed, good djs, special guests, live music and performances along with beach bonfire and fireworks, a great experience.
Staff here are great and the manager Aiman was especially helpful. He even sent us personal messages through our stay ensuring we were happy and even send us one wishing us a safe journey home.
A five star resort with service to match, thanks for a spectacular stay!

Thanks for the rockin' review, nathang61! We are very glad to read of your enjoyment and satisfaction, and to see that you found so much of the hotel's facilities and services to exceed your expectation. Your observations are true - this is a great hotel to stay with a family! Hard Rock Hotel Penang actually wins awards every year for being such a family friendly hotel, but what we pride ourselves in is being able to help create experiences for all our guests, whether they are families, couples, solo travelers or groups of friends. It's great to see that you had a wonderful stay over the new year. We completed a full room refurbishment in December 2016 and it's great to hear that our guests are still appreciating the new decor and features. The staff you mentioned personally will all be recognized at the hotel for their great service, so thank you for mentioning them. We pride ourselves on providing a rocking stay experience for our guests, and great efforts like the ones provided by Aiman help to further enhance that experience. Thank you for staying with us, and we look forward to another chance to serve you. Rock On! Michael Smeeton Executive Assistant Manager

Being a loyal Hard Rock guest, we were looking forward to this trip but it was a huge disappointment this time around. Couple of key concerns shared but no actions taken.
1. Lizard in room as per photo seen. Notified front desk and got a very relax answer that we will check on it. I would have expected a little more concerned shown and action taken.
2. Daily shampoo and shower gels were not topped up. Literally had to make a daily to request shampoo and shower gel
3. There was a big hype around guest safety and sanitising luggage upon arrival. We were informed 70 people max at a time in pool with 3m distance. Didn’t see that being controlled. There was no control. People walking in and out without being asked to sanitise or whatsoever.
The pool bar shack and restaurant Pizzeria was close for the reason of guest safety. Didn’t see how that was more preventive than letting the pool and lobby loose on basic Covid regulations.
Did leave feedback and the duty manager called to justify and when I explained the facts above, all I was told was we will take it up to the management.
The government has allowed restaurants to operate up to 12am, yet Hard Rock Cafe was only operating hours to 10am (weekdays) and 11pm (weekends). Again this was highlighted and was told we will bring it to management.
The staff were sluggish and when the lizard incident took place, I literally gave up. We use to spend the entire time in the hotel in the past but this time around we opted to spend time outside of the hotel and just came back to put up for the night.
Thanks for all the good memories Hard Rock.

Response from Michael Smeeton, General Manager at Hard Rock Hotel Penang
Responded 26 Jul 2020
Dear omairs2015, We are disappointed to read your review, and we hope you'll accept our apology for your experience. I am sorry to read your disappointment in regards to that pesky lizard. Your comment has been shared with the Housekeeping Manager as this is certainly not the standard we require for guest room servicing. We also have strict pest control procedures at the hotel, and will continue to monitor this to ensure it is not repeated. I am sorry that our Front Desk staff did not treat this with more urgency. This has been shared with the Front Office Manager to improve on with his staff. In regards to there not being a top-up of bathroom amenities, in line with the Safe+Sound Guidelines in response to combatting CoVid-19, all room services are to be done upon request only. This is because prior to your arrival, the room would have been thoroughly cleaned, sanitized and sealed, leaving it free of all contaminants as you enter. Housekeeping has to be requested as an acknowledgement that you are allowing entry by our staff into your "safe zone". Upon calling Housekeeping, they will book a timeslot for your room to be cleaned and all room occupants will be asked to leave the room during the appointed cleaning time to ensure that our staff are able to maintain social distancing as they tidy up. If you would prefer your room to not be cleaned but only to have the amenities stocked up, please call Housekeeping to request the items needed and they will gladly send them to you, packed and sealed for your safety. Also thanks for your feedback on the swimming pool and entrance controls. The hotel has set a limit of 70 persons inside the swimming pool at a time, this is for people inside the water only, not at the poolside or kids playing in the water play area. From our own monitoring, we have not seen more than 70 persons inside the pool at any one time, although there are regularly many more enjoying the area such as laying on sun lounges or wandering about. The 3 metre social distancing between parties is very difficult for the staff to control, and considering the constant movement of people around in the swimming pool to ensure constant 3 metres between each party of people would be close to impossible. Our team do their absolute best to uphold the policy, but we also rely on our guests’ best efforts to do the right thing as well. We do sanitize all luggage as it enters the hotel, and require all guests to register with the contract tracing application and sanitize their hands upon arrival. Again, the team do their utmost to ensure 100% compliance to this policy. If guests choose to ignore the policy, and we are aware of this we will absolutely communicate the requirements to them. All policies of this nature, whether inside our hotel or anywhere within Malaysia also require cooperation from the community and we thank our guests for doing their best to comply with the new normal procedures. We hope that you will give us another opportunity to turn it around and thank you again for taking the time to give us this most important feedback. Kind Regards, Michael Smeeton Executive Assistant Manager

Had a relaxing break during the rMCO period at Hard rock. Hotel took all precautions to keep everyone safe and we were able to keep our to small group of 4 and maintain the new norm while enjoying the holiday . Sanitizers stationed all around the hotel and masks provided .We would like congratulate the staff for working hard at the all stations especially at buffet breakfast serving us individually at the tables . Having dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe might be a challenge as long waiting times expected without reservations due to limited numbers that can be seated .
