Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Would give 4.5 if we could! Awesome spot! Staying in a double bed cabin with shared facilities, the facilities are spacious & clean and the water is hot in the showers! Kitchen is away from the cabins but is clean & has utilities.

The room has a double bed, clothes rack and a heater, not too much room for much else but perfect if you just plan on coming back after a long day on the mountain.

Keypad entry & exit, lovely helpful staff/owners and clean rooms. You pay for wifi here which is fair enough as in middle of nowhere! Wifi we bought had no issues.

Only thing is (& this isn't really due to a fault of the place) if you are staying in the cabins & there are people who arrive late (post 10pm) there is a very good chance you will hear them as walls are very thin. If you are a late arrival please be courteous & dont be loud & in & out of your room 100times at midnight then proceed to talk very loudly on your room for 2 hours, you will get a bang on the wall.

We did not try the cafe here.

All in all, we will definitely be back! Only 20 min drive to the mountain (Whakapapa)

The owners gave us plenty of information about the crossing, the shuttle bus, what we can do in the area, where to park for free, where to hike. Very helpfull, with trustworthy information. Room and bathroom were clean enough which we appreciated. Cabins are not daily serviced though. The shuttle bus for the crossing picks you up just in front of the camp.
There is no phone signal or free wifi anywhere close by. However if you drive to the nearest town either way signal is perfect, no need to pay extra. We booked a double en cabin. Space is a bit small if you have big bags. But you can manage. We would like to have a hairdryer in the room. I had to go to the shared showers to dry my hair with only one available hairdryer. There are quite a few parking spots but people who use the cabins just park as they wish taking over more spots than one.

Very basic, but that’s all you want when you stay here.
Your only here for one thing and that’s the hike.

The rooms are clean and tidy. Beds are comfy. Kitchen and toilets big and clean

Not much close by. So stock up before you arrive

Cockroaches absolutely everywhere. Wifi doesn’t reach rooms even when you have to pay for it. There’s no equipment in the kitchens and there’s 2 working hobs for the whole site. The oven also hardly works which meant a cooked meal of ours was ruined. 4 showers also to serve a whole site which go hot and cold every few seconds. Overall would pay a touch more and stay else where because after paying for wifi/ bedding there’s not much in it anyway

Greg and Donna are really nice people and excellent, very helpful hosts. They keep a careful eye on the cleanliness and facilities of the Holiday Park to ensure that everything is in good order all the time. My room was simple but that was all that was needed. The bed linen was fresh and crisp. This is a great place for a stay both sides of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.

Great holiday park to plan the tongariro alpine crossing or laze around. Greg and Donna are excellent host and don't mine a wee chat. We could easily stay a whole week helping to clean up but living in the Hawkes Bay we had other things to do. Quiet place to stay with all the basic facilities like showers and kitchen all clean and tidy. Though I didn't get to do the Alpine crossing due to the weather we will be back next time.

I am a teacher in charge of a school camp that has visited Tongariro Holiday Park every December for the last 30 years. And we keep coming back because of the service. Great facilities, accommodating owners, and a perfect location.

39 out of 131 reviews (30%) are either poor or terrible. We made the mistake of not reading the poor or terrible reviews ahead of booking. Won't make that mistake again. Suggest anyone looking to stay here reads them. Usually stay at Top 10 which we have found to be excellent.

Stayed this weekend for 2 nights with my 2 teenage daughters so we could complete the tongariro crossing. Brilliant location, clean with very good amenities. Management was so helpful with things to do and see in the area as well.
Would definitely recommend and return.

We pitched our tents here for the 2nd year running. great showers, plenty of hot water. clean and well maintained. Kitchen is cosy and plenty of dining space. Handy location and friendly helpful staff. We were a little late checking out after a bit longer than planned morning trek, but there was no issue. We'll likely be back again next year.
