We stayed here for 2 nights while touring São Miguel Island. When we stayed here, the hotel was only 7 months old. It is modern and clean. The staff were outstanding! Pleasant, always with a smile, and wanting to make sure that you were happy with your stay. We upgraded to a Junior Suite, which is only a little larger than a standard king room, but with a couch. It was too cool for the outdoor pool, but the indoor pool was wonderful. For those who use them, there is a fitness center and a massage spa. The view from our balcony was spectacular. The restaurant was very good, and while lots of choices at the breakfast buffet, hot items were at best warm. The dining room and pub are side by side, have different menus, but you can’t get the pub food in the dining room and vice-versa. We really didn’t understand that. Anything in town is an easy 15 min. walk, except possibly the liquor factory. The weekend we were there was the first indication that the Covid 19 crisis was going to impact the staff and you could tell there was some intrepidation. I would have no qualms staying here again.…
These comments are not meant to criticize or reflect badly on the care and attention we received at the Verde Mars Hotel & Spa. It is a beautiful hotel with a great view of the ocean. The staff are very kind & friendly. Accidents do happen. I fell on the marble floor surrounding the breakfast buffet breaking a hip. My Azores holiday was spent in hospital with considerable pain. I write this review to offer 2 suggestions: 1. Remove the marble floor in the food area. Even small amounts of food spilt in passing makes an already slippery floor dangerous. Portugal is known for its cork products, wouldn’t cork flooring be safer for everyone? 2. Each new arrival to the breakfast buffet should be shown how to use the machines, for example coffee, juice, toaster etc. Every country uses different machines. Looking at the pictures on these machines is not enough. Sorry to say I will never return to the Azores no matter how pretty these islands maybe.…
We had a great time and met our bar tender-Diogo where he made the most amazing drinks that were even more interesting to look at! He was so eloquent! Thanks Diogo and we hope to visit soon! Your friend Matt and Daniela
A modern, clean, bright hotel with outstanding views of the ocean. The staff are professional, pleasant and helpful. There was a minor problem with our room which was addressed immediately. Manuel made some great suggestions for day trips, called and made reservations for us. He followed up the next day to be sure things went well. The room was large, the bed comfortable, the bathroom was modern. Upgrade to a room facing the ocean, above ground level. These are rooms numbered 100 and above. You will have a balcony from which you can view the ocean waves, a blue sky with huge clouds, a couple of horses that seem to graze in a field out back, beautiful sunsets and a starry sky. Breakfast includes lots of fresh fruit and fruit juices, breads, and the usual eggs and bacon. There is an excellent coffee machine that will do coffee about 6 ways. The views from the dining room are spectacular. We did not have a car - which was a bit of a drawback, given the location of the hotel. But there is a shuttle van that operates a few days a week that will take hotel guests into Ponta Delgada. The hotel has a large supermarket across the street and several decent small local restaurants within walking distance. …
Booked here for a week - we were so happy with the location near the largest town in northern Sao Miguel, Azores. Located on the ocean and within walking distance to town, restaurants and groceries( right across the street- the azorean walmart- AKA Continentale). The spa was incredible- a beautiful glass tiled pool as well as Turkish bath and sauna for use by the guests. Since we were on our anniversary trip we booked a couples massage which was relaxing and an excellent value. One of our masseurs was Miguel ( also a trained acupuncturist) who was incredibly skilled and knowledgeable about his art. In addition he was happy to share his recommendations for restaurants and site-seeing. We would absolutely return to this wonderful hotel with its outstanding staff!
"I would definitely pick the ocean view room, it's so peaceful to look at the sea from your room!"Read full review
