We held our wedding at Borgo del Grillo in September 2016. We hired the whole place and had about 40+ guests staying in the apartments for 5 days (at an exceptionally good price, and for less than we would have paid for a venue for one day in the UK). We held the ceremony in the theatre in Sarteano, just a 12 minute drive away - which was beautiful -before returning to Borgo del Grillo for the reception, which we (thanks to the weather) held in the open air out on the lawns. Alessandra who manages the property could not have been more helpful from start to finish. She helped us with everything from caterers, to flowers and the music (the harpist & flautist were brilliant!). The caterers that Alessandra recommended were again very good value, however you would not have known it as we had hours of wonderful antipasti served from numerous ‘stations’ around the gardens, followed by a 4 course lunch. The food was truly spectacular. The caterers offered to provide wine and spirits, however we chose to provide the alcohol ourselves, which was easy with vineyards and large supermarkets in abundance in the area (Montepulciano is well worth a visit for the wine tasting alone). Alessandro, the groundskeeper, could also not have been more helpful. Everything we needed from more glasses to numerous extension leads at the last minute when my (now) wife decided she wanted to hold the dancing in the orchard area on the grass – so had to move music, lighting, tables and everything else. Previous reviews have mentioned being restricted to noise levels, late night restrictions etc – I can assure anyone that is not the case. At no point in the 5 days at any point through the day or night (with some guests at least being up and playing music through to 5 or 6am each night) was there any interfering or complaints – we were left very much with free rein of the whole property. The BBQ they have there for guests use is gigantic, so we ended up having a BBQ for 60 people the night before the wedding. Pool and grounds were all immaculate and everyone had a great time from those wanting to stay up all night to those with small children. The fact that everything was in self-contained apartments allowed people to separate themselves when they wanted. Overall I truly wonderful 5 days – would have been difficult to top .. everything was pretty much perfect and cannot recommended Borgo del Grillo enough as a venue.

We spent one week in this marvellous borgo. Very nice houses, a beautiful garden with a nice swimming pool offering splendid views over the Val d'Orcia (Orcia valley). Very quiet place in the south of Tuscany far away from the maddening crowds in Florence and San Gimignano.

Borgo del Grillo looks like a place out of a postcard...the views, the air, the ambiance simply magical....and then you have the managers/owners. I went there for my best friend's wedding, and let me tell that seing your girlfriend and her husband's face so tight and stressed out instead of enjoying themselves fully on this important occasion breaks your heart. The unprofessional, and just plain rude behaviour of the manager was mortifying. Asking the groom to remove a dance floor that they saw him set up for hours at midnight, asking the bride and groom to pay for the heating which was supposed to be included (it was really cold), not trying to find a plan B for rooms with no hot water etc.... is just unacceptable. They didn't manage to ruin the event because we wouldn't let them - but they easily could have!

We recently organized a wedding party at Borgo del Grillo, and had approximately 60 of our guests (and ourselves) stay there. We booked the whole place over two days (the weekend) in May/June, right before the medium season started, as per the owners' preference. Our experience was mixed, at best. The bad: the owner, Serena. - Despite the time of year (late May/early June), the weather was cold and DURING the wedding party, the owner informed us that she would charge us a very hefty fee (several hundred Euros) to cover the heating costs. Neither she nor her sister, Alessandra (the other owner), had ever mentioned the possibility of extra charges before. On the contrary, a sign in each room clearly states that all charges are included in the fee paid for guests' stay. - We got over the annoyance (and later paid), and celebrated into the night in the Borgo's indoor party room. The Borgo being in a remote location, we did not think the music would be an issue. In fact, when we were planning the event, we had asked the owners whether there was a time by which we would need to end our party -- the owners had answered that there was none. Nevertheless, again in the middle of our celebrations, the owner barged in to tell us in a very unpleasant way to turn the music off. We had to negotiate with the owner (on our wedding night!!!!) to be able to continue our celebration, as per our prior agreement. - A similar incident had already happened on Friday night during a smaller dinner we organized. - A few hours before our wedding, Serena the owner, instructed us to remove an elevated wooden dance floor we had paid a lot of money to have placed on the grass, as she worried it would ruin her lawn -- the fact that her sister, Alessandra, the co-owner, had previously allowed us to install a dance floor made no difference to her. - The apartments took forever to warm up, and the hot water did not properly work in all apartments. - The owner, Serena, was not present when our guests started arriving and checking in. When she finally did arrive, she made a stink because she urgently wanted to record everyone's information (which we ended up doing for her, because she was so unpleasant about it). When people checked out, she was slow, and according to several guests, also rude. Such bad manners, dishonesty, and lack of professionalism were shocking to us given that we were getting married, and had booked the WHOLE place during a period when the Borgo would have had very little activity. The good: - The location and views are stunning. - The apartments are spacious and tastefully decorated. - The custodians who live at the Borgo are very nice and helpful. Conclusion: wait for the Borgo's management to change, and then plan a nice long vacation there!

Response from borgodelgrillo, Proprietario at Borgo del Grillo
Responded 14 Aug 2013
I Boy-Scout!! Ancora Grazie e Felicitazioni! Serena

I went there to my good friends wedding and it was a blast, a stunning wedding and everyone was happy, even the sun showed it's face after weeks of bad weather. It was magical. The borgo has breathtaking views, the cutest place ever, buildings and rooms were renovated with beautiful attention, superb furniture, lovely garden, helpful staff on site, all was great. Except that the night before his wedding the groom who was already on his knees, had dozens of phone call from the frantic owner of this beautiful place. Everyone knows how stressful a wedding is to organize, but she did not care and gave him hell all the way. Once all the crew mounting the tents and dance floor were far gone, she asked him to remove the dance floor as it could mark her lawn. So the groom had to do it on the morning of his own wedding!!! Then as the weather was a bit cold, she said that he will have to pay extra for heating all the guests rooms (everyone was already paying 80 Euros a night and we filled up the entire borgo with friends and family during low season) At this point the groom was sweating and asking me for aspirin (true). How can someone who rented her place for a wedding could treat the groom this way is beyond me!!! Everyone felt sorry for him and we all tried our best to help him out. This is unacceptable. This stunning place could have had a 5 star review from me, but I have to make a point here. If your planning to have your wedding at Borgo del Grillo, make sure to have a wedding planner so he or she can take all the blows, as the owner from hell will do her best to screw you and your wedding.
