This resort was nothing short of simply amazing. Prior to our arrival at this beautiful resort I’ve been liaising with the Manager Mr Muru, he ensured me all my requests would be met on arrival and indeed they were, the room location and view were absolutely breathtaking, I’d wake up in awe every single morning! The room itself was extremely big, we had the ocean suite, and it was cleaned and sanitized daily, every night while at dinner there would be someone that would come and spray insect repellent and set up the bed for us for a goodnights rest. Mr Muru made sure the PCR results were printed and left in our room. He also made sure any additional requests we may have were taken cared of, he truly made our stay hassle free. He provided information for a private photographer as well.

Some information regarding the resort, apart from the fact that you just can’t get enough of it, it’s massive reception welcomes you warmly, and then there’s a 24hrs bar (Abdullah) will be ready to make you anything from a cappuccino to whatever you prefer. There is a breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffet (Deo) was always so helpful when we got there to dine. There is also another restaurant called the cliff which is Ala Carte incase you miss the lunch buffet (the cliff restaurant is also included in the all inclusive package), (lightness) was such a sweet soul, she ensured we were always comfortable either in the restaurant or at our cabana to enjoy our lunch. There is also a beach bar where (Emmanul) waited to make us either the cocktail of the day or whatever other drinks we desired. The days that we didn’t go out exploring, (Juma) entertained us from yoga, to water aerobics and other activities he had lined up, such fun with such sweet people. Honestly, a week was not enough and if you’re hesitating to book this resort, I promise you that you’re going to miss out, everything was exceptionally amazing from the location, to the views, to the food, to the drinks, to the activities and to the dinner entertainment…we took the all inclusive package and we so glad that we did because we truly got more than we paid for!

With regards to private tours and excursions please contact Abby +255 62 052 8089. He is amazing! He speakers great English, he is so friendly, and very professional. He provides all inclusive packages and can make any specific package that you may want. He provides airport/hotel and hotel/airport transfers. He does not use his cellphone when he drives, he does not drink alcohol or smoke. He is safe and reliable. He is always on time and he is so funny! He does not ask for any tips, he is a genuine and kind person and he will always look out for your safety while you are to busy enjoying your adventures that he plans for you. I 100% recommend him and only him! He truly is the best, you won’t be disappointed. He so cheap with his prices, we would of got charged double if we went with anyone else, again…Abby truly is the best!

So from the resort and from Abby, go and book now! You won’t be disappointed…Hakuna Matata

Most pictures make a place look way better than it ever is in reality. Well this time the resort was even more spectacular! The pools were stunning, the perfect white sandy beach was amazing and our rooms were so fancy.
Make sure you bring your goggles & snorkel because you can snorkel right in front of the hotel and the visibility is good.
Our rooms were upgraded and they were enormous with luxurious bathrooms and lovely white crisp linen.
After reading some bad reviews on food & wifi I had mailed the GM Kim who assured me she had dealt with these issues. Well done Kim & staff, your food was delicious and your staff so kind and hospitable. And thanks for our gorgeous rooms!
My only complaint were the hawkers on the beach and the ridiculous amount of litter I was constantly picking up.
Use your security guys who stand around all day to pick up plastic bottles and ensure guests are not harassed. They did leave us alone after several days of No thank you.
Otherwise an AMAZING holiday!

Dear Mel, Thank you so much for your wonderful review of Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort, We're so thrilled that you had an amazing holiday , even more so that you'd worried about a few things and found they'd been addressed. Our rooms really are special and the bathrooms are wonderful. I'm also sorry about the hawkers on the beach. We continue to try to work with them to stop them from unwanted behavior but as it's a public beach, our advice is not always taken well. Thank you once again for choosing Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort for your stay in Nungwi, we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. The resort is beautiful with spacious grounds, beautiful views and beautiful rooms. Book a high floor with an ocean view. Totally worth it, just keep in mind there are no elevators, but the staff does carry your luggage. The staff were kind, friendly and accommodating. The Spa is amazing. I had a coffee scrub and a massage combo. They were the best treatments I have had. They have numerous types of scrubs and you can either find the menu online or stop in and chat with the ladies on your way to the gift shop to buy your Zalt. I had a pedi halfway through my trip. It was wonderful also and it's on sale on Tuesdays, I think. The Spring Rolls in The Cliff are delicious. I enjoyed all of the food in The Cliff including the burger, which was actually a surprise to me. But it was great. The fish and ships and fresh pizza were delicious too. They also offer fresh sliced pineapple and watermelon. Monday Dinner on the beach was probably my favorite and the BBQ wings, also delicious. Spices Buffet was also enjoyable. They always had fresh salad and great breads, a great pasta station, fresh wraps and/or stir fry. I am not a drinker. I usually go with bottled water which was always available, but sometimes in the middle of the afternoon you just need to sit in the pool, on a bar stool, at the pool bar, and enjoy a mojito. The bartenders were great. There are numerous pools. I enjoyed the pool bar and the view over the infinity pool.

Dear Judith, Thank you so much for your terrific review of Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort and for the added promotional material! We were delighted to hear that you had enjoyed your stay so much and loved the details that you offered to our future guests. The Spa Team were thrilled to have provided the best treatments you've had and they confirmed that Pedi's are currently discounted on Tuesday's. Our Boutique Team also appreciated your mention of the store and the popular Zalt Salt line of locally produced, flavoured salts, aren't they delicious?. Chef and his team were happy to know that you'd enjoyed the food, particularly our wonderful beach dinner and all of the staff were so pleased that you enjoyed their service. Thank you once again for choosing Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort for your stay in Nungwi, we are already looking forward to your return! Well where can I really start about this hotel ???
After a 1 hour taxi drive from the airport we see the sign for the Royal Zanzibar hotel
With everyone excited to get there 15 min later after hitting the private road to the hotel we had the excitement shaken out of us with all the holes in the road
It was worse that a bomb site with holes ever two seconds. Not a great start

On getting to the hotel we then paid $600 to upgrade the room for 4 nights
On getting to the suite ( 3rd floor no lift ) 5 min walk from the reception we tried to call down as our tv was not working but this was not possible as the phone did not work also, I went back down the flight of stairs and walked back to reception to report this Only for 30 min later to have to do again as no one came ,
This was repeated 8 times over the next 6 hours when then I finally gave up.

The following day we went to breakfast ( terrible food With flys everywhere so thought I will just have toast but guess what yes the toaster was purchased from the same shop as the tv and the telephone and did not work

So when decided to leave and try again to report this to reception only to be greeting in reception by a Russian couple fighting with 2 bottles of wine (10.30 am)

Infact the whole hotel was full of rude Russian who just wanted just to drink the all inclusive bar from 10 am to 11pm and not worry about family’s trying to enjoy a well earned break.

With the food so bad in the restaurants we decided to go outside the resort day 2 and found another hotel to eat.

With Covid 19 required we then asked the hotel if they could arrange a car to take us to the test
We were told it would be $100 to take us there and back
When the driver arrived in a battered old car the doors would not open one side, so I refused to put my daughter in the car for safety reasons
We asked another driver who was dropping off if he would take us, he said $40 as that was the fare.

He then got harassed by the hotel as they told him they take a % off the driver so wanted a cut !!!!

On getting back day 2 they told me the tv and telephone was repaired ( well 2 channels worked).

Day 3 we sat in the al la carte restaurant ( which basically Is burgers pizza chips ) only to watch the cleaner clean the pizza over with a dirty mop
Disgusting!!!!!!!!!

So after that we chose not to eat at the hotel again.

So if you class paradise as sitting in a room eating pizza topped with bleach watching drunk Russians fighting at 10.30 am as your tv does not work
And paying double the price for in road worthy taxis

This is the place for you .

Thank you for taking the time to post your review of Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort. I'm so sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay and there are certainly a number of items that require an apology from the resort. There is no excuse for the amount of time it took to fix your TV and your telephone and I won't attempt to make one. I'm also sorry that the road leading up to the resort is in such rough shape, it is only 3 minutes, not 15 but doesn't change the fact that it's not a pleasant experience. We have banded together with a couple of other hotels to have it paved, unfortunately the contractor has let us down and we're still working with the local government to get him to live up to the contract he signed. I'm also sorry about the car on which the door wouldn't open. That is not an acceptable standard and we will ensure that the taxi company is aware that we won't accept cars that are not in excellent order. There is no reason for the receptionist to ask for the driver to pay us when you are making a private arrangement and that has been made clear to the team. Please be assured that the mop you saw being used for the oven is only used for the oven. Due to the depth, you need a long handle to clean it all the way to the back. However there should never be any confusion about hygiene standards and we will find another tool to ensure it's clear that the tool being used is only for that purpose. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy the food. The Chef and the team in the kitchen are continually trying new things to ensure that our options for guests are as broad as possible, I'm really sorry that they didn't appeal to you. It's both personally and professionally disappointing to the entire team when a stay goes so poorly and we apologize that we didn't meet your expectations. Please do let me know should you be traveling to Zanzibar again, we would very much appreciate the opportunity to provide the stay you should have enjoyed the first time. Kind regards, Kim Elizabeth Bird General Manager Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort

Beautiful Hotel. Great Service. We were received warmly by the polite staff at reception. At first sight whilst walking towards our hotel I was amazed by the Span of Swimming Pools that ran from the very start of Hotel right to the end giving the illusion of no divide between the Ocean and Pools. Blocks of Hotel rooms on either side of the Pools made it look Extravagant. Was relieved that our room was ready as soon as we checked in. Give or take waited around 10 minutes or so after we showed our passports, kudos to staff who checked us in quickly. After 2 hours Stone town tour and 1 hour taxi ride to our hotel, desperately needed a quick snooze.

We had an Ocean View room and the scene was smashing. Hotel room decor had a cozy and relaxing feel, Got some East African vibes inside the room which was large and cool ,luckily enough they had the room cool prepped by having AC on (What a relief, as I had been baked by the sun from earlier tour). Bathroom was big with shower and bathtub and all the bathroom stuff that goes with it. Staff advised us on the usual towel etiquette (leaving on floor if you want to have them washed).

Next night my wife noticed minor water leak behind a cabinet near the bed. This was observed later in the evening. Notified the reception and they had an engineer the next day to fix it. I found the AC placement near the bed a bit distracting and slightly noisy. I recall when we first checked in it was not as noisy, realising later that I was fiddling with the remote and changed its ideal settings. May be they should have simple instructions on AC operation.

The bed was too soft for my liking but managed to get some needed sleep though. We did not inquire the Hotel staff for having a firmer mattress, I guess I didn't bother as I was OK. In hindsight the staff at reception during check in should ask guests about sleeping arrangements especially preferred mattress.

Beach is easily accessible and I like swimming in the light blue sea (Hardly any annoying sea weeds to combat).

Food was great and can't really complain. I am Vegetarian and they had a lot of choice (Indian, Italian, Continental, Chinese, etc.). I put on a bit of weight as my self control grows legs and runs away from my head as soon as vast choice of nicely presented food is seen 😁. Staff also organised a surprise cake for my birthday which was a nice touch of my last night at the hotel.

Met the friendly manager Phillipe Dupont on our last day. He caught me off guard as he thought I had a problem (may be my facial expression looked confused thinking about what desert to eat for the night🤣).

Back home now pondering on my Holiday and beating myself up for not staying there Longer !!!

I stayed here for 8 nights and every bit of my stay was fantastic. The rooms were amazing with incredible views, the staff were extremely helpful and were always there to assist you whether it be at reception, the pool, the restaurant or even housekeeping, everyone was so friendly and accommodating in every way. They also had their own hotel driver who was very friendly and he was happy to bring you wherever you wanted to go and also waited for you which was very nice.
The pools are incredible and the perfect temperature. The food at the cliff restaurant was delicious every night. Some evenings there was a set menu and at the weekend their was a buffet style which I liked to mix it up a bit. They also had some live music playing which added a lovely touch to your dinner setting. Dinner started at 7 however on my last day i was leaving at 6.30 and asked the staff if I could get something to eat at 6 and even though lunch was over and dinner had not started, they were more than happy to serve me whatever I wanted The hotel is also right on the beach and the views are amazing. I very much enjoyed my stay here and would recommend it to anyone travelling to Zanzibar.

We stayed at the Royal Zanzibar from the 20 to the 2nd of July in a sea facing suit, block A room 22.. Arriving a bit early, our room was not ready so it was suggested we go for breakfast. This was also the place you have all your meals and is very pleasant place to be. The choice is good, from cereals to a egg station and most things in-between. Can I just say I hope they have improved the croissants, which is ironic considering the GM is a very nice frenchman.
After an hour or so we were shown to our suit and what a loverly , clean and well appointed suit it is with what I would say has the best view of the beach and sea in the hotel. Please note that it can be a bit noisy from about 4.30pm onwards, but its a small price to pay. whilst on the subject of the beach, be aware of the aggression and persistence of the sellers, particularly two guys " ALI BABA' AND James Bond. NOT GOOD PEAPLE.
There are a number of pools and if you look at historical photos of this hotel, you will notice not many people are in them. The reason for this is they are on the cold side.
There are two main eateries, the main is near reception and is nice enough but the service has got a long way to go to be good. The other is called the Cliff and it certainly has great views over the sea. Menu is limeted and food is adequate.
Finally I would like to say a big thank you to Ester our room cleaner who did a fantastic job, every day. Also if you need a taxi, ask reception for ALI, A great guy with accommodating rates. IF your reading this Ali, I hope you have not got any more traffic tickets.
so, in summery would I stay here again, proberly not. Am I glad I went, most defenightly.

There are many resorts on the north end of Zanzibar, and we did a lot of research finding a location which would provide us everything we wanted. We settled on Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort, and we are very happy we did! The property is large, but, despite the heat, getting from one side of the property to the other isn't very difficult. The pools and dining facilities were excellent. There were so many options, we hardly got to experience all the resort had to offer. The rooms are very large, and our suite had an unimpeded view of the ocean. The cliffside pools and the easy access to the beach were spectacular. While the beach directly in front of the property wasn't huge, it offers access to the whole ocean front. The tides didn't impact us negatively: when they were in, you had direct access to the most amazing, clear blue water. When they went out, you could walk along the beach in for miles in either direction. You can take a cab, but it's also possible to walk into the small town and visit shops and restaurants. Overall, the only problem we had is that we didn't have enough time to enjoy everything!

Very friendly staff with good hospitality and all staff are very willing to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
Check-in and check-out was very smooth, rooms including bathrooms clean and big. One of our rooms had an issue with the air conditioning which they fixed within a couple hours of being notified.
Wide variety of food especially for vegetarians (and Indians in particular) with all food tasting just like home. Each night is capped off with an evening entertainment be it a live band or performances where everyone joins in with the fun.
All three pools were very nice as was the beach and we did not feel threatened by the beach vendors.
Special mention to Muru who helped us to ensure our visitors enjoyed the day with us and Molly from the pool bar and Anna from Mapenzi Bar as they both made our cocktails perfectly.
Would highly recommend this resort to all looking for a relaxing beach holiday in Zanzibar!

Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort is a gem hidden at the north of the Zanzibar island. It takes more than 1,5 hrs to get there from the airport and the road is mostly good, just the last 500 meters is a sandy dusty disaster with holes, bumps and stones and this does not leaves the best impression upon your arrival, but this will be forgotten once you enter the resort.
First of all, it is all about the staff. They are the most sweet and caring people you can find on the continent.
The rooms are spacious and clean, if you do not pay for the upgrade you will be places in a simple room on the ground floor with mosquito nets around your bed missing, but other than that we liked the room and even though we did not have the ocean view, we were happy.
The beds, pools, food, amenities - all is great and taken care of.
The only thing we did not like were the beach boys, who surround you every time you enter the beach and it is kind of annoying. We spent more time at the pool just because we did want to hustle with them. The beach is gorgeous, by the way.

I tottaly loved the place and will be back.

"The adjacent water sports and the market are not part of the hotel. Bargaining is a must. Have the cash USD to pay as TZS rate is bad there."

"No lifts at hotel, so be aware if you have a room on 1st,2nd or 3rd floor. Please don't be intimidated by the beach sellers!"
