We stayed at Riversong five years ago and were delighted to find out that we could book a second stay this year. The location is so scenic and peaceful and the owners Rob and Gretel are amazingly hospitable, interesting and helpful. Wanaka is a stunningly beautiful place with a variety of activities to suit all sorts of travelers. We enjoyed the hikes that Rob recommended - spectacular views on relatively easy, short walks, wineries, and fine dining experiences. Riversong is conveniently located close to town but secluded enough to provide a serene setting for relaxing on what can sometimes be hectic vacation days. We could not have asked for a nicer accommodation or more delightful hosts - a superb holiday combination!

From our first phone chat with Gretel we just knew we would feel at home at Riversong, and when we got there it was everything we had hoped for and more. Rob and Gretel plus Meg the spaniel are great hosts who enjoy interesting chats with their guests, and the breakfasts, whether cooked by Gretel or Rob were really tasty. The view from our upstairs room was amazing, looking out across the river to the mountains. We hope to return one day!

My husband and I stayed at Riversong for 2 nights at the end of January. Our warm welcome from Gretel and Rob accompanied with a hot cup of tea and freshly baked ANZAC biscuits after a long drive, and we knew it was the best choice, a home away from home. Gretel and Rob were Amazing hosts, nothing seemed too much trouble for them. We enjoyed many interesting conversations with them, particularly over delicious breakfasts that catered to our every desire and need. We stayed downstairs. It was self contained, a very comfortable bed and well equipped ensuite. The expansive view of the Clutha River and hills through our windows were beautiful. We were free to enjoy the expanse of the house, sit in the nice gardens , do our washing and ironing as well as truely relax. Our son, daughter-in-law and 8 year old grandson stayed upstairs for 4 nights. We all loved our stay and I especially appreciated the kindness and generosity that Gretel and Rob showed to our Grandson. Riversong is a great place to stay to explore Wanaka and its surrounds. Thank you, so much. You are the best.

First time to New Zealand and I'm so glad that we got to spend two nights in Riversong B&B. The room is very charming and the view is quite lovely, and we really enjoyed the hospitality by our hosts Rob and Gretel. Highly recommend this place.

We thoroughly enjoyed returning to stay at Riversong, a lovely home in a beautiful setting, with a great view. Being away from the congestion of Wanaka, adds to its charm. Welcoming hosts ensured our stay was most enjoyable and we hope to go back again.

We have been at The Riversong 10 years ago, and had a very nice experience at that time. When we came back to NZ again i 2020, we decided to go to Riversong again, and see if the atmosphere was still there. And yes, it is still a very amazing place to visit because of Gretel & Rob (thanks for your help and advice; good conversations); the house and garden is the same beautiful place as we remembered. If we go to NZ again - we will come back.

We had three nights at Riversong while exploring the Wanaka region. We were made to feel completely 'at home' in every way - more like Gretel's friends than B&B guests. Tea by the log fire; breakfast (amazing fare - fresh homemade everything) in Gretel's kitchen; warm bedrooms; comfortable beds and you are mesmerised by the sight of the Clutha River from every room of the house. Riversong (and the gardens) is full of charm and home comforts with a warm welcome. The best part was having Gretel's company at breakfast and we enjoyed good and interesting conversation on many topics. She is not only the most wonderful and generous hostess, she went well and truly out of her way to provide us with a memorable and restful stay - including lots of good and helpful information on the area. Riversong is also a great location, being very quiet and just out of Wanaka - but still only a few minutes' drive to the centre of the town and lake. Thank you - we plan to go back and hope you and your husband (who was away so we did not meet) will visit us in Australia.

My wife and I are blessed to have made 3 trips to New Zealand. Riversong embodies what draws us back (we have stayed there on each of our trips).....unbelievably friendly and hospitable people and spectacularly beautiful scenery. Ann is the perfect hostess. Warm, gracious and welcoming, her attention to detail shines through everywhere: delicious breakfasts beautifully presented, lovely linens, and impeccable taste throughout. Ann loves life and people and it shows in everything she does. Riversong sits on the banks of the beautiful Clutha River just a few minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Wanaka. Not only do you gaze on the river from your room and the decks of the house, it's peaceful sound serenades you at night. And the scenic Clutha Walk is immediately at hand. Without question, this is our favorite place in our favorite country to visit.

Pros:
- location, location, location
- hosts (& Molly!)
- beautiful spread for breakfast
- thoughtful tin of cookies

Cons:
- it's popular so book ahead!

My husband and I were lucky enough to score a night's stay at this lovely place. I went for a run/hike on the nearby trail that parallels the Clutha while husband went went fishing with Ian. We slept like babies and woke to a wonderful breakfast. I wish we had booked more nights here instead of Queenstown. The owners are delightfully warm and genuine people and we really enjoyed my stay at Riversong.

Two friends and I stayed with Gretel and Rob as we were travelling through New Zealand on a fishing holiday. The location of the house is ideal as the Clutha river is only meters from the backdoor. This makes it easy to get onto the river early in the morning or late at night. This stretch of river holds a good head of large trout (both brown and rainbow) which (frustratingly) can be seen from the bank on clear days. I was lucky to catch a 5lb 7oz brown trout on the fly on our first evening there. Gretel and Rob were excellent hosts and, along with their beautiful dog Meg, made us feel at home.
