Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My partner and I stayed at the Lodge for a few days while cross country skiing and snow shoeing. While Snow Farm is a separate business to Snow Farm Lodge, they are in the same building, meaning you can eat your breakfast, collect your gear and ski from your front door. Fantastic. Our bed and room were comfortable and functional. We chose a room with an en suite for privacy but the communal bathrooms also looked excellent. The staff were absolutely lovely to us, sending out a support party to help us put chains on our tyres to come up the road in inclement weather, when we were struggling, and making every effort to cater for my partner's diet in the buffet - with success. They couldn't have been better. We are looking forward to returning next year!

Had a great afternoon up here with the kids. The tubing and tobogganing area was just right for them, the staff were friendly and helpful, and to top it off, we all had a go at Cross Country Skiing. We'll be back. Recommend.

We stayed 4 nights in the cheapest room..with shared bathrooms (that were spotless and always vacant even though the lodge was full). The buffet dinner was excellent every night...breakfast included a simple but hearty hot meal and fruit/cereal ... the bar cozy...the staff uber friendly (thanks to Kath). You can do other activities like the dog sled (see review)..a real bonus. If you like cross country skiing...or want to learn with the ski school...then you can't do any better for the price.

Snow Farm is a gorgeous place, and the Lodge made it fun and pleasant to be there. The hosts were friendly and attentive, the meals yummy and plentiful, and the facilities comfortable. They made sure we had everything we needed (even helping us through a blizzard when our car got stuck), and shared our enthusiasm for the beauty of the place, the pleasure of the skiing, and the sheer joy of dogsledding. I can't wait to go back.

Thanks Lisa, you guys definitely got the best of both conditions- blizzards and sunshine. We're glad you got to enjoy the beauty we see every day and hopefully your trip back to Dunedin was uneventful with all the water/flooding everywhere.

We are so glad we gave Cross Country skiing a go! Although we can downhill ski we decided to take a Cross Country skiing lesson at the snow farm. (please note, they do not farm snow!) So glad we did as it was very different. Our teenagers were not so keen in the Cross Country skiing after their lesson but had an absolute ball in the fun zone tubing and bobsledding down a hill all afternoon! Even us adults joined in! It was an afternoon filled with screams of laughter! The road to the snow farm is a little longer than Cardrona but definitely worth the trip. The cafe provides meals at a reasonable price and the coffee and hot chocolates are delicious.

We have just returned after a brilliant week at the Snow Farm Lodge. I don't think we have ever felt so looked after by our hosts there, making our week there perfect. We were up there for a busy week (the Merino Muster) however our stay was very personalised and the staff took the time to look after us. - When we arrived, we were introduced to lots of different people at the lodge, making us feel at home immediately - The rooms, whilst basic, were toasty and comfortable - The food was perfect and abundant! - Lots of NZ lamb, meats and great desserts. We highly recommend their buffet! - Although the facilities (toilets, showers) were shared, they were always spotless, and we never had to queue for the toilets or showers despite the lodge being full - The location is perfect, probably 20 steps between your bed and the XC ski tracks. I don't think you could ask any more! All in all we had a great stay at the Lodge, and would highly recommend it for anyone considering staying up the mountain.

Just an overall wonderful experience! Warm ,friendly staff. Spacious room and the meals were so healthy. We were made to feel most at home, and had comfortable beds with good room facilities. Overall our stay was quite inexpensive and we shall definitely return from across the ditch to visit snow farm lodge again!

Very difficult to get from Queenstown. It I'll take you 1.5 hours and you can only drive. Transfer is around 160 dollars return. If you are a fan of cross country skiing you would really enjoy the snow and the loops. 18 km is the best one. Great resultant for a quick snack after.

This is a great place to stay leading up to the Worldloppet cross country ski race. Ski to the door and avoid the drive each day up/down the mountain. Our room was a twin ensuite; a spacious room with a TV/DVD. Our beds were quite uncomfortable-not built for bad backs. Pulling the top mattress onto the floor helped..a bit. The shower had good pressure and a heated towel rail was a nice added extra. By request, a kettle was supplied, meaning we could access hot drinks 24/7. You would need to pack your own UHT milk and tea/coffee bags. No hairdryer in the room so BYO. The food is delicious although we were made aware they were catering for the athletes staying, so perhaps more options and more healthy than usual. Dietary needs were no problem and letting the Lodge know in advance is suggested. Vegetarian options were tasty, packed with protein and delicious. Lunch options at the cafe were reasonably priced and tasty, although all bread based. The staff are all terrific. In particular, Cath is cheery, helpful and goes the extra mile, which was appreciated. If staying for the Muster, keep in mind that the post race dinner may be at the Cadrona Hotel on Saturday night. We would stay again and had a great time.
