Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful and peaceful are words that come to mind when describing Amanda and Randall’s place. Their home and adjacent guest accommodations are located down a country road opposite a sheep farm. It feels completely remote yet only a short 20 minute drive to Wanaka. Randall and Amanda are he ultimate hosts - friendly, interesting and interested and generous. Awaiting the daily breakfast treats (bread, butter, jam and eggs) was like waiting for Santa to come every day and then opening the best gift. Thanks Randall, Amanda and Dexter for taking care of us during our stay. We couldn’t have imagined a better vacation!

Couldn't have asked for a better experience! Sleeping in a tipi surrounded by the sounds of nature, practicing meditation and yoga daily, sharing the experience with like minded individuals, exploring the surrounding mountains on hikes, sailing on lake Wanaka and eating tasty healthy food. Wow! The land this is all situated on is just stunning, and the Richards family are just a delight to be with who can share the wealth of their accumulated wisdom with you. Thank you so much for your hospitality and love! x

A stunning property in a tranquil setting, perfect for escaping and getting away from daily life. With exceptional food, a superb location, and an amazing bunch of people, Randy and Amanda hosted an amazing retreat at Mountain Spirit. 4 days and 3 nights to reflect, enjoy, try something new and take it all in. From yoga to hiking to sailing, along with the phenomenal food from chef Tim, this was certainly a retreat worth traveling down from Christchurch for. I would definitely recommend and will certainly be back.

My experience at Mountain Spirit was exceptional. Refreshing, rejuvenating...rewarding. Our beautiful hosts, Randall, Amanda and Dexter are the beating heart of this wonderful place:Attentive, welcoming, vibrant...generous. Mountain spirit is alive with their love for each other and for the land, it is a song you can hear and a dance you can feel...infectious and healing for the soul. Staying here on a 5 day Yin Yoga retreat...through the combined remedy of their open loving hearts and the soulful character of the land...gave me space to relax and let go of everything outside. What else is there when you are surrounded by such exceptional physical and spiritual beauty? Thank you for such a wonderful time, it has changed me, and I consider myself truly blessed to have met you and stayed at your home.

What a beautiful and peaceful setting, wonderful hosts, interesting and varied activities, fantastic food and the wonderful people I met there. Went for the Yin retreat and from the moment I arrived till leaving four days later, was treated like a member of the family, with much consideration. The Yin was well delivered leaving me feeling deeply relaxed and rested. The activities including hiking and sailing were well organized and complimented the philosophy of the retreat. A genuinely well thought out and delivered itinerary. Can't speak highly enough of Mountain Spirit and am already planning ways I can return!

We wish we could have stayed longer at Mountain Spirit! Randall & Amanda's yurt is beautiful. It is in the most wonderful off-grid setting, so well set-up that in fact that you would never know it is off-grid. We were treated to delicious freshly made bread in the morning, and a great yin yoga class with Amanda. The whole experience was delightful and we hope to return again next year! THANK YOU Mountain Spirit!

I know I'll have difficulty adequately describing my experience at the recent Yin Yoga Retreat but I'll do my best. From the moment I arrived, until the moment I left 4 days later, I felt welcomed & received with open hearts by the wonderful hosts, Randy & Amanda and their gorgeous son, Dexter. The first evening, Randy & Amanda welcomed us and shared that the retreat was a place to connect with self, connect with others and connect with the land. Well...I got all 3, in abundance. What a wonderful space & place to relax and do yin yoga for 4 days. Beautiful surroundings, beautiful people, beautiful food, amazing yin yoga classes, walks up the mountain, sailing, Kirtan and most of all, peace & stillness to calm my nervous system. I especially loved 2 yin yoga classes daily in which I could deeply relax & connect with my body. I cannot recommend this retreat and hosts highly enough. Easily a 5 out of 5!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Amanda and Randall, one week was not long enough! There is no better way to wake up than with the warm sun shining over the mountains and a daily loaf of fresh homemade bread (still warm!) and delicious apricot jam...what a treat! The accommodation and facilities are spotless and have a homely and welcoming feel. The hosts are super friendly and informative about the surrounding area, we highly recommend booking a sailing trip with Randall on Lake Wanaka. He is an excellent skipper and taught us so much during our afternoon sailing; a highlight of our time spent in New Zealand. Also, Amanda is a fantastic Ying Yoga teacher; so professional and she practices in a awesome space, either the Yurt or the Tipi. What more could you ask for, we feel thoroughly rejuvenated! This land is good for the soul! Thank you!

We've been at Amandas, Randalls and Dexters lovely place in the beginning of 2014. We stayed two weeks, which passed bye soooo fast! Gardening , building stone-tracks, fences and plenty other really good things which made the difference. Never the less we spent time together going swimming, eating icecream and had open hearded talks about life and the very interesting biography of Amanda and Randall. Thank you for the time! Miss you and New Zealand!!

We spent 3 weeks at Moutain Spirit. The place is wonderful, surrounded by mountains, with a view on the valley and Hawea flats. Quiet and peaceful, it is a good place to escape from big cities. Amanda & Randall are very welcoming and we felt comfortable to share with them ideas, ways of life, and visions. Their property is huge, they grow their own organic food, and their ways of life are sustainable for people and the planet. Thank you again Amanda & Randall! As Wwoofers, we really felt being part of their family, sharing ideas and meals every night. This was a good opportunity for us to live in a remote place, and practice our skills in Non Violent Communication and learn Open Hearted Listening. Thank you again Amanda, Randall & Dexter for the time we spent together! We wish you good luck for your wonderful projects! Long life to Mountain Spirit! Emi & Nico
