Hi, We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartments for 10 days as part of a family reunion. Three other families joined us for 7 days. The 2 bedroom apartments are ideal, spacious, well appointed and suited us all very well. The single storey apartments are the best as there is no potential noise from apartments above. Fortunately we were in the single storey block. We used the restaurant facility several times and the scones in the morning/lunch are excellent and the dinner quality A++. We arranged a family celebration in the Alcove Room next door to the main restaurant. The quality of the food, bar service and staff service was excellent - thank you.
All the families loved their stay and would go back.

These lovely spotless units are approx 10 mins mostly gentle downhill walk to Wanaka. No view of the lake but who really cares when the unit has everything else you need. We had a 2 bedroom unit witha a well equipped kitchen...dishwasher, microwave good sized fridge with separate freezer compartment, and 2 hotplates.Lounge area (with a small balcony and table, chairs) has a DVD &CD player,TV etc. Bathroom is compact but more than adequate. Queen bedroom also has it own TV. Two single beds are in the other bedroom. Only downside for some people may be the stairs (we were in suite 15) but that didn't really worry us. Also noticed that they have lockable cupboards for skis in the underground car park. The caretaker manager was excellent, full of advice and nothing seemed too much trouble for her.
Forgot to mention that there is also a washing machine and dryer but no detergent provided.
The driveway is quite steep so be careful when turning in as you can scrape the underneath of your car if it is very low.
We loved Wanaka as it is less touristy than Queenstown and so pretty in Autumn!
Would definitely stay here again with the good off season rate we got!

My wife, ten month old daughter and I, had a stop over here in mid April while on the way to Queenstown. Given the standard of the accomodation we would have been happy to stay longer. The apartments are spacious, very modern and clean and if you have a family/young family, great for the kitchen facilities and the space for cots etc.

The cost for this standard of apartment was surprisingly low. The only downside is that they are on the edge of town so a hire car to drive in on the chilly Wanaka nights is certainly required. The apartments are also up flights of stairs so access with lots of luggage is a struggle.

These two issues should not put you off as the apartments are well worth these two downsides.

This is a warning to anyone who wants reliable accommodation. Our experience with Wanaka Edge was very disappointing. We were trying to find accommodation for New Years Eve, in Wanaka - a difficult task at the best of times. Having seen availability online for Wanaka Edge, we called to confirm this was indeed the case. After being quoted three different prices by two different people on the phone (for the same room), we eventually were able to book a two bedroom suite for two nights. This process had been quite strange, and it very seriously felt like we had been forced to barter for our accommodation. However we hoped it was just a strange anomaly and booked anyway, making other plans and reservations accordingly.

However, we were telephoned back on the day we were to check-in, to be told our accommodation was no longer available due to a computer malfunction. This was after we had already given our credit card details and made other plans in Wanaka. The person from Wanaka Edge was very unhelpful and could not offer any alternative accommodation options. It was obvious Wanaka Edge were shopping around to get the best rates they could for New Years Eve. That telephone conversation was quite unpleasant and the Wanaka Edge representatives (again we spoke to 2 different people) were abrupt and rude. This was the reverse to our experience with locals and tourist operators in NZ, who were generally overly friendly and helpful!

We had an amazing time on the South island in New Zealand, Wanaka Edge was really an exception as a standout disappointment.

And yes, the other reviews are right - as we saw where it was located - there are no views, it is a longer walk into town via the main road and the apartments themselves appeared concrete and barren from the outside.

On the other hand, Wanaka is a very picturesque little town. Luckily, we ended up with a pleasant experience elsewhere!

We stayed at Wanaka Edge Suites for several days in October 2007. The apartments are new, very well appointed, and extremely comfortable. We had booked a one bedroom apartment, but were given a two bedroom at no extra cost.
Although some of the rooms have no views of the lake, you only have to walk a few yards to to the top of the road, to see the magnificent mountains and the lake.
There is everything that you would require for a short, or lengthy stay provided, including washing and drying facilities in the suites, full cooking equipment and broadband internet, wired and networked (although this is not free, it is at a good rate). There is also full underfloor heating throughout the rooms should you be going in Autumn, Winter or Spring. We found this to be great, after having to use freezing cold bathrooms at some other places we stayed at, on our three week tour of the South Island.
Each apartment has either a good sized balcony, or private courtyard equipped with table and chairs. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

The first impressions of the place is not good - looking like a bit like a factory/office block from the outside.
Inside however is a completely different story, with a very smart and clean apartment. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything you'd need and washing machine and dryer in the cupboard.
Rooms were immaculately decorated and very nicely done.

The only downside to the place would be the lack of a view

Stayed in the 2 bed apt number 26 on the 3rd floor (no lift!). On checking in there was a most unhelpful Brazilian guy behind the desk who gave us no information whatsoever. As in other places I asked if I could have a copy of the town plan from the desk and he said ok - with others places this was offered with instructions of the best way into town, suggestions of where to eat / drink etc ....but not him.

The walk into town therefore was a very long way and an even longer way uphill on the way back - we discovered the next day when the manager was on duty who was very friendly that we had gone the long long way round and could have taken a short cut....we would have done had we been told!

The apartment itself was of a good size and well equipped but with no free internet.

We are reasonably regular visitors to Wanaka being one of our favourite parts of NZ. This is the best accommodation we have been to so far, in terms of service and value for money.

The management was outstanding and was eager to please us and make our stay comfortable easily changing the room we were in to suit our needs. It was quite popular for summer, so I can well imagine how busy it gets in winter so we will be booking early for the ski season. Thanks for a wonderful time!

We had high expectations of these apartments as we had read the glowing reports in Trip Advisor and had seen their attractive but misleading website. But Wanaka Edge Suites turned out to be our one disappointment in our 3 week holiday on South Island.

First finding it is not so easy to find. We spent 20 minutes trying to locate it and passed it twice. It has a miniscule sign and turns out to be nowhere near the lakeshore (as the website photos somehow suggest) but in fact on an industrial estate at least 20 minutes walk away from the centre. It has no lake view or any view at all for that matter but it is close to a good fish and chippie.

Second the ambience of the apartments themselves. As shown in the night-time photo on the website they look attractive but in reality the grey concrete and prison type walkways are ugly. We found our one side of our apartment had a view onto the underground car park. There was a small patio area you could sit out but to be honest it could have been anywhere (although the Southern Night sky mkes it clear you are not in Doncaster).

Third while our apartment was well appointed and comfortable, it was nowhere as big as the apartment shown on the website.

The reception lady was very kind and helpful and if you are looking for is a comfortable apartment, then it is ok But frankly they didnt put us in a holiday mood and we only stopped the one night. And we are still wondering why the other travellers rated it so highly
