Detailed Reviews
We had a two bedroom suite for a one night stopover, the accommodation was big, clean and adequate and being on the groundfloor gave us a porch and access to the lawns. It also had a good kitchen area as well as washing machine and dryer.
The pool area was good and was nice and warm making the combination of accommodation and pool good for families. What was a big let down was the restaurant. We had dinner and both ordered steak which was tough as old boots and was very poor value for money. Similarly the breakfast was very poor for the price.
We would stay again but would go for room only and sort our own breakfast and eat out for dinner.

We paid $216 per night which I think was $100 more than it was worth. The room was clean and tidy, the bed very comfortable. The tv remote had no back on it so batteries would fall out, no Chanel 1 only 1+. At night the room was lit up from the outside light as the door is glass, no way for us to turn the light out. No sky tv either.
The restaurant was also disappointing I ordered the $24.50 burger, It was just basic lettuce, tomato, pattie, cheese. The pattie was tasteless, could only eat half of it. My husband had the chicken pasta, he said it was pretty ordinary, he didn’t finish his either. Meals were way over priced for what you got.

My son and I visited here for three nights. The room was a bit tired but more than adequate. It had good cooking facilities and it was great to have a washer and dryer in the unit. The pools were amazing - I see that a previous guest has said there was no signage about the depth of the pools or absence of a lifeguard. I found signage on all of these things very clear and easy to find. We found the food and drinks around the pool a bit pricey but it is not compulsory to drink or eat from the hotel so that was ok.
I found that the best price was obtained from the owners website rather than Trivago or other sites.
Service was friendly and helpful. Nice view from the unit - also nice and quiet.

This hotel is trading on past elegance. It is now tired, shabby and neglected. The wooden door to our room had at least a 5mm gap down the door itself letting clear daylight in. The door of the cupboard housing the fridge could not be closed because it had slipped down. The fridge had only 3 legs and this meant you had to lift it level to open its door. There was a large cobweb on the inside of the patio window with numerous dead flying insects in it which had clearly been there for weeks if not longer. The inner seal of the window was hanging down. The bedside table lampshade was very dented. There were water stains on the ceiling above the door of the room. Outside of the patio was very weedy and the railings opposite were covered in old cobwebs.
Whilst the reception staff apologised for the state of the room, we got the impression that they really didn’t care. This hotel is not being managed. We can’t even say it’s being poorly managed!! Not at all what we were looking forward to

Sorry but I call a spade, a spade, so I will tell it how it is and it was pretty damn average. Whether this is just related to our room or not, I can only relate to our stay.
The front staff and bar staff are great, prompt and wearing a smile.
The pools are great and the encompassing rock walls reflect the style of the surrounding Otago landscape.
For a resort, it would've been great to have at least some picnic tables or outside chairs, or even bean bags to lounge on in the sun, but nope nothing.
Our room on entering, we were met with a pungent smell - possibly dampness. This is more than likely due to the room getting absolutely zero sunlight from dawn to dusk and not able to be aired. There is no air-con and with the room being sun-less, you dont need it.....
There were no pool towels in the room like the booklet in the room indicated.
There was no rubbish bin.
There was one lounger chair for 2 people so one of us had to sit on the bed.
There was no toilet brush to clean the after effects of a poltergeist creeping up on you.
The shower (over the bath) sprayed water over the toilet and made a helluva mess on the floor.
Room service never arrived until at least 1630hrs. Since our bath towels were used to clean the toilet and floor I guess it was welcoming to get dry towels off them.
By all means don't discount staying here but be wary of the tired place.

We stayed here for a week in a one bed apartment. It is very well provided for and included dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer with washing powder and dishwasher powder provided. The apartment was clean and warm and quiet.
We were staying to go tramping and cycling everyday so really appreciated the hot tubs for a soak in the evening. They’re open until 9pm so you can chill out in them late on. One evening the bar manager even came out and took a drinks order so we enjoyed G&Ts in our tub.
The location is great, peaceful with good views. It is about 30mins walk to town (not very well lit) or driveable in a few mins. Nearby is Ruby’s cinema and Florences food store which are both walkable in a few minutes.

We have been regular customers to the Oakridge for the past 10 years, sadly this is the last time we will stay in this place. We had the worst experience ever.
We are travelling with our 9 month old baby and I called reception in the morning to ask for the bed sheets to be changed for our 2nd night because our little man unfortunately wet the bed.
I removed the sheets in the morning and put them on the floor, trying to be helpful for the housekeeping team.
We went away all day, we came back at 8pm into a room which had not been done at all:
Pile of rubbish still there (got take-away pizza the previous night + all the closed plastic bags with the dirty nappies + rubbish bin overflowing in the bathroom), no new toiletries.
My favourite part:
They left some clean sheets on the chair for us to make our bed !!! What the heck ?? 165$/night and I had to do all the cleaning & bedding myself.
Cherry on the cake, hubby called reception to at least have new towels but they never arrived. The bed sheets were single bed ones, so hubby finally went himself to reception to grab towels + good size sheets.
They explained on the phone that Hskp cannot do our room for 2 night stays because of level 2 restriction. I am working in a hotel and let me tell you that excuse is Bullsh*t.
This is the first time I see such a poor level of service.
For the last 2 years, every time we stay at the Oakridge we have been disappointed but because we have been staying there for so many years, we always say “ok, one more chance”. But that’s it. Will never book this place again.
Also:
* the pool water smells like it was last cleaned in 1998.
* At night, room light up as the door is glass.
* The shower over the bath tub sprays water everywhere, what a mess to clean.
* Very noisy fridge which is just in front of the bed.
* Could hear the water in the pipes all night.

I have been staying at the Oakridge for years. Sadly this may be the last time.
We were quoted $149/night but charged $166 on checkout. On the phone the staff person was rude and in a hurry.
They messed up the booking and had us checking out a day earlier than planned, then charged my credit card forcing us to pay the surcharge.
The facilities are starting to show their age, the umbrellas around the pool were broken, as were the lounge chairs, the pool service for guests seems to have stopped also.
Another curiosity was the lack of robes, slippers, and anything else for that matter in the rooms. No mini bar and the TV remote batteries were all flat, not to mention that the remotes had seen better days.
Room service neglected to replenish any of the bathroom supplies.
All in all, a lot of details missed adding up to a sub par experience, although the room rates have dropped post covid, so has the quality.

My husband and I stayed for three nights in a one bedroom apartment, upstairs with a balcony. This resort is absolutely fantastic value for money. From the very helpful reception, fantastic breakfast host to the excellent cleaners. The hot pools are the most relaxing, comfortable ones I've ever been in. The apartment has everything you need including a dishwasher, washer and dryer. The balcony views were fantastic especially the fiery sunset and snowy mountains. This is my second visit and I would definitely recommend anyone wanting a relaxing break away to stay here. We actually booked for two nights but decided to stay for a third. Go on. Treat yourself.

Great location if you want to head out early to ski Cardrona in the Cardrona valley unfortunately it’s a hike to town so you need to taxi in and I’ve found taxis are expensive and unreliable in Wanaka.
The pool complex was great for having a spa after skiing. Very nice.
The rooms were clean and tidy but very tired and in need of a makeover it was disappointing as our heater wasn’t appearing to work, the fridge froze all our milk and beer and the heated towel rail had been disconnected and the plug blanked over so wet towels.

Probably. Just ring up and ask!
From memory there is age limit but you are best to contact them to ask. FYI don't go there just for the pools. They are ok but not great. Better places to stay in wanaka and you can pay just for pools. If you are after hot pools you cant beat Hamner Springs. Tekapo is better than Wanaka but Hamner Springs is the best.
We were so disgruntled with the place we didn’t bother checking the pool, sorry
Hi julie j,
