We travelled for the Mountain Kitchen lunch - wow, what a spectacular treat. From the super professional helicopter flight and commentary to the the stunning service and food. Minaret, you are total class in a low key way but where every need is catered for. We didn't want to leave - thank you for the spectacular treat and being everything and more than we could have anticipated.

We stayed for three nights at the Minaret station during our travels in New Zealand. The location, scenery, accommodations and service are exemplary and one of a kind. The helicopter rides and outings are out of this world and you can't but be amazed at the talents of the helicopter pilots (we had Steve), the chef Ivan, the greeters Catherine and Toby and the guide Scottie. All the tourists that had the privilege of staying at this extra-ordinary lodge should be thankful for the Wallis family who took time, pains and risks involved in starting and running this lodge. If your budget allows, please stay at the Minaret Station. What a place!

Minaret Station Alpine Lodge is breathtakingly beautiful!!! You become a tiny dot among vast colorful mountains beside a gorgeous creek with a multitude of hiking trails to explore. The scenery is so stupendous that it is difficult to make yourself move out of your fully furnished, incredibly comfortable cabin. The chefs prepare the most delicious dinners which you can enjoy in the privacy of your cabin or in the dining room with the other guests whom you did not know were present as each cabin is off to itself. You have to experience this wonderful treasure.

This has to rank as one of the most unique stays .. utterly divine location only approached by helicopters .. the beauty of utter desolation , ringed by majestic waterfalls and superb landscape. The lodge has amazing staff and divine cuisine to boot. A day in the fiordlands with your own helicopter and guide has to also rank as one of the must dos in life!! A stay that one never forgets!

Any hotel which is only accessible by helicopter is going to be a bit different from the usual run - a ratio of three helipads to four bedrooms emphasises this. The guest cabins are large, well appointed and very well laid out and provide wide vistas across the valley. The hot tubs on the balconies are a nice touch - although they are very hot. Meals are prepared by top class chefs and served by a very friendly young team. The lodge itself is very comfortable, providing plenty of seating space. Another great feature is that the lodge, the farm and the helicopter company are all part of the same group. Activities for guests are thus very well coordinated (and also very luxurious). It's not cheap but worth every penny. One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. We shall return.

Nested in a small valley in the mountains this 4 room resort is a unmatched experience. The chef is Michelin grade quality and the hikes, helicopter tours and picnics are fantastic. Service is very good and the independent rooms are comfortable and well appointed.

The Minaret experience starts with a breathtaking 20 minute helicopter ride over the most extraordinary landscape and then you land in the middle of nowhere! First impressions are this is just a group of sheds! But then you go into the main area and you are immediately greeted by the most wonderful selection of wines and 5 star dining and then you think "how on earth have they done this?" The answer is absolutely everything is brought in by helicopter. It's uttering mindblowing what they have achieved here. The station is part of a much bigger family business which runs the entire farm, helicopter business and station. It's an amazing combination that works perfectly. The resort is limited insofar as there isn't a great amount of walking be done from the station, otherwise you need a helicopter to take your sightseeing trips, which are obviously spectacular, and adds to the cost of the stay but for a few nights stay, it's worth it. We stayed in early January, but as it is so high up, the weather can be changeable, so bring clothing for all weathers!

We stayed at Minaret during a 3 week tour of NZ. It was the highlight of our trip. While located in the middle of nowhere, the accommodations, food and service were first class. The individual cabins are close to 1000 sq. ft, with private hot tubs on the decks, a separate living room and entry. The views were outstanding! Our dinners included abalone one night, and both fish and lamb the other. The staff was extremely attentive, and included a private guide who led us on several hikes as well as the heli tour. Be sure to include one of their extensive hell tours. We took the western experience, which included flying over Milford Sound, landing on a glacier, and a fresh lobster (they call it crayfish) picnic in the alps. While the lodging and hell tour are rather expensive, they are well worth the cost. You won't be disappointed.
