I've always wanted to visit the Cardrona Hotel, so thought we would stay here as part of my birthday road trip around the South Island. We had the Captains room in the hotel, which is more expensive than the others, but still good value we thought. The room was immaculate with a super comfy bed and great decor. The bar is cosy, and as a Brit, what I consider a proper pub. The garden is awesome and we enjoyed drinking by the open fire outside as the temperature cooled. We had dinner with two friends who were staying onsite in their campervan (this is allowed if you spend money in the bar or restaurant). The food was absolutely exceptional. Three of us had the Beef Wellington and agreed it was the best we'd ever had. If you come here and this is on the menu, do…
On my bucket list for approx 30 years to spend a night. Sadly have mixed feelings about it. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Very quirky pub with an enormous amount of history contained. Loved the schist and authentic fittings. Lots of areas to sit, Stand or lounge around. Lovely in front of open fire despite it being smokey at times. Check in from 2pm so sat in garden having a drink as we were early. Finally got into our room at 2.40 and they were still cleaning rooms. Room had lovely fragrance from a deodoriser. Furniture looked tired with obvious dents and staining worn. Very old "square box". TV. No fridge. Bed too firm for our liking but room was warm. Shower was dump head with single taps which took some work to get right temp. Walls paper thin so little sleep. Could…
Lovely ambience. Nice surroundings and friendly staff. Managed a busy lunch time well though we did get ours lost lol. But no biggie . Fabulous soup and lots of good photo opportunities. Def be back next trip
A must visit if you’re staying in Wanaka or Queenstown. Such a cute and quaint pub & hotel in an amazing setting. The grounds are just lovely and inside is super cozy for the colder winter weather. Drinks are very well priced (decent wine pours) and a good selection. Great pub style menu, good quality food for the price & plentiful servings.
Amazing lunch, great outdoor area, and atmosphere, friendly staff! Definitely worth a stop on the way through and only a 45 minute drive from Queenstown. We will be back! Highly recommend the frickles!
This lovely little Hotel is just perfect in every way. Such a super chill place to stay. Rooms are lovely and cozy . Restaurant is superb! We had dinner and breakfast both of which the food was amazing! Highly recommended !
Family of 8 plus one when for lunch. Loved the chilled atmosphere and the food was great. Big meals, every one left stuffed. Fire inside and out was really nice in the colder weather. Will plan to come back and stay sometime as well.
Our South Island "roadie" was to include a night in Wanaka but fortunately I won the "discussion" and got to choose our accommodation. We have passed the Cardrona Hotel before and stopped for a drink or snack whilst on motorcycle tours. A great historic hotel that was busy. Despite this we had excellent service from the barman from Tokoroa and we booked for dinner. A stunning meal with similar service before finishing our bottle of wine on the leather couch watching the open fire. An outdoor hot tub was enjoyed before retiring to our room. We definitely recommend the Captains room (22) which is cosy and stylish. The grounds are lovely with an outside roaring fire and this place has a great atmosphere.
We had planned to spend a 50th birthday here with the family so had a room for the night so we could enjoy a few drinks without having to drive. Sadly Covid changed that plan but we kept our room. The room was a small queen so it wasn’t a room I’d spend a lot of time in but it was comfy with a retro tv, good linen, toiletries and own bathroom. I was worried about it being noisy at night but it was warm, quiet and like staying in a country home. Staying over you get to see a different side of the place to just the usual beer at the pub. It is beautiful at night and in the morning the birds sing. Food is outstanding! Had the best beef Wellington of my life there. Service amazing, comfy stay, perfect stopover for us
