Very nice, atmospheric place, room small but comfortable and clean. Would have been amazing if we had snow, but not to be. Pub very busy, but once the day trippers left it was peaceful. Food was great and not too expensive. Definitely recommend a visit.
We came down for work as well as a little holiday while we were there. We went skiing for the day at Cardrona and had a great day. We stayed for 1 night at Cardrona Hotel and had a lovely stay. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the food was great. They even have an outside hot tub which we took advantage of when we arrived. We stayed in the Captains room which was a great size, the ensuite was very big, a great size.
We had 2 nights here waiting for snow, which eventually came and closed the road! Lovely place to be stranded though, cosy roaring fires, friendly and welcoming staff, delicious food. Comfy room with French doors looking onto large garden with outdoor fireplace and glass houses for winter shelter . Breakfast and dinner beautifully presented and tasted great. Good local wine list. Riverside walk to the distillery and whisky/ gin tasting.
Lovely welcoming staff; warm, clean and comfortable room opening onto garden, delicious food and one of the most iconic pubs in NZ. We will definitely be back. Would be the perfect spot to stay and relax after a day skiing. Make sure you walk the back road to the Cardrona distillery so you can both enjoy the whisky.
Staying here was one of the highlights of my recent trip. The staff are so welcoming and the building itself is fabulous - open fires with comfy couches, the smell of woodsmoke and historical artifacts all around, you get a real sense of history here. My room was fabulous, with French doors out onto a beautiful garden with an open fire and historic outbuildings. The room itself was extremely comfortable and it had the most beautiful scent - I'd love to know what it was. Dinner was amazing - one of the nicest burgers I've ever had, and fantastic wine too, with great service. Breakfast also great - so nice that a place offers a simple breakfast for a low price - toasted ciabatta and jam for just $8 that you can have by the fire - brilliant! I can't wait to come and stay here…
We had a very enjoyable two night stay at the Cardrona Hotel. We felt as if we were transported back to the mid 1800s. The rooms were small but rustic, cozy and warm. Check in was a little confusing as we entered through the bar but staff were great and very helpful. No luxury but everything you would expect from a room like this. The restaurant is great for breakfast and dinner and is located just next door. we enjoyed a glass of wine at the outdoor fire place in the evening, highly recommended. The hotel is in a great spot for day trips to Arrowtown or wanaka.
it has everything you need for a great stay, food, beer, wine, garden bar, will say here again, we had a great time here, rooms were clean & tidy, just across the road from Cardona Distillery, well worth doing their tour and sampling their fine sprits
But worth it!...Iconic hotel between Wanaka & Q/town...We had the Capt's Room. Lovely big comfy bed, great bathroom and quiet. Excellent service and atmosphere, well groomed gardens and a big open backlawn to take the stiffness out of your legs if travelling.
Very cool place, food was great and staff all really friendly but I wouldn’t stay again as we could hear our neighbours snoring all night and the heating ticking all night meant we couldn’t sleep. Definitly be back for a meal or a drink though
Good place to visit in a picturesque setting, olde world style historical pub serving good selection of beers and good selection on the menu served by pleasant people. Well worth a visit even if only sightseeing
