It was a very busy day and they weren’t coping. We ordered 4 meals, 3 arrived after 50 minutes and when we had all finished we went in to check on the 4th to be told it was just starting to be cooked. We asked for a refund and left. I’m future it would be better if we were told when ordering it could be up to an hour for food, then we could decide if we had time to wait around for it. Food that did arrive was nice though.
Family of five visited in the July school holidays. It was very busy but we had very good service. We ordered the lamb shoulder for 4 people which was absolutely outstanding. Extremely generous amount of lamb and vegetables. All cooked to perfection, cannot fault in any way. The hotel has lots of atmosphere and we had a wonderful night. Just a tip- we had to book about 4 days in advance to get a table, so maybe check if you are going during a busy time.
We stopped in here with a large group for lunch and a beer/mulled wine. There is a really good large sun filled seating area on a lawn out the back which also has a fire place, the food and service was really good.
We stayed at The Cardrona hotel for one night en route to Mt Cook. A short drive from Queenstown. We were greeted by friendly helpful staff. Our room was clean, in period style and delightful. We booked for tea by the fire. I enjoyed a delicious pork belly, my husband a seafood hotpot and local wine. All very delicious. Surrounded by happy holiday makers and historic photos etc, a great ambiance and made for a very enjoyable evening. Wish I had brought my togs for the hot tub! I strongly recommend this experience.
If you are in Wanaka then a visit to this historical (1855) pub is a must do. Very popular with the skiers in season so if you want to avoid the rush the middle of the day might be a good choice. The food and drinks were great, the ambiance amazing. Fires burning, stories being told just good country fun. Under pressure the staff were amazing. Behind the pub several other historic buildings from when Cardrona was a settlement.
