Satisfactory experience overall. Staff were always courteous and helpful whether it was front desk or servers in the restaurant. Food was average, buffet for breakfast not very enticing. We opted for a smoked salmon dish and this tasted a bit off. Apps and wine the night before were okay. We were supposed to have lake view and I suppose our initial room was if I stood on my tip toes, however they changed our room and we had a pond/ semi lake view which was better. Rooms themselves are dated and furniture in sitting area not made for comfort. instant coffee in rooms. Bathroom and shower were very small, I cd fully stand up in shower but husband at 6'3 could not. Linens and bedding were a nice quality, bed was very comfortable. Not very convenient to town although easy access to lake walking trail.

Lovely setting on the lakeshore and just about walkable (about 20-25 minutes) into town. Grounds were in really good condition and made for a lovely view (if you get a room with a view that is!). Rooms were a bit dated (with no aircon) and walkways to enter rooms were really shabby - definitely need an upgrade. Breakfast was ok (buffet) - but no better than that.

The check in was a bit rough (they were overwhelmed). Once we were in we loved it. Stay in the main hotel with a lake trail 100 yards away. Great place for walkers. The room was big, clean with a big bathroom. The staff are very nice but disconnected to the people who prepared the rooms. They made it right.

We stayed here two years ago and enjoyed the experience of the hotel with a personal and local vibe and this was a return visit. Lovely setting with rolling lawns and gardens. However, the ducks pooing on our deck and sparrows flying into the dinning room as soon as doors are open a jar makes this a downside that needs to be addressed for hygiene reasons. Double doors for sparrows and discouraging the ducks, remove rabbits so that people don’t rick their ankles on rabbit holes. On the positive side, the hot scones in the morning with many flavours, are a huge winner with the locals as well as hotel guests. We tried the ginger and rhubarb, superb.

Response from Edgewater Lake Wānaka, Marketing at Edgewater Lake Wanaka

Kia Ora Freddy, thank you for your continued loyalty and for choosing Edgewater once again to experience our unique local charm. Our location on the shore of Lake Wānaka, surrounded by nature's beauty, really does offer the perfect sanctuary to slow down, or as we like to call it, find your rhythm at nature's pace. As much as we adore the wildlife that graces our surroundings, we're currently faced with the challenge of dissuading our feathered friends, particularly the ducks & sparrows, from frequenting the guest room patios and restaurant patio. Rest assured; we're diligently exploring methods to discourage their presence. Your understanding and patience are greatly appreciated as we navigate this delicate balance between respecting nature and ensuring our guests' comfort. We're committed to finding a solution that maintains harmony for both our guests and our beloved wildlife. Once again, thank you for your support, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Edgewater for more unforgettable experiences.

Excellent location. Lake view well worth the extra. Had a similar gleam bed apartment for 4 nights. Staff very good at check in. Decor of room in good condition. All the facilities to cook in or eat out. Only down side, could only make instant coffee. Definitely would recommend the hotel

This is s a lovely hotel situated on the shore of Lake Wanaka. The accommodation is in units spread around the site and we had a room with a view of the lake. The main disadvantage of the hotel is that it is just a little too far away from the town centre. It was too long a walk for a couple of senior citizens. We had dinner and breakfast in the hotel, both of which were good.

Kia Ora Michael, we are so pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay with us! While we are situated slightly out of town, (a 5-minute drive, or a 25-minute walk from the town center around the lake) this distance allows you to relax away from the busyness of the town center and truly find your rhythm at nature's pace. Thank you for your feedback, and we hope to see you again soon!

Beautiful views! We enjoyed this hotel and had a great room with a gorgeous view of Lake Wanaka. The room itself was spacious, basic but it was clean and had everything we needed! We dined at the restaurant for dinner and the food as very good! It's a little bit of a walk into the main part of town, but the walk is so lovely we were happy being a little bit further away. I thought it was very quiet but my husband said he heard some people our last night in the room.

Stayed 4 nights in a lake view suite and had a wonderful relaxing stay. The suite was recently refurbished to a high standard with nice furnishings and touches. The large super king bed was extremely.comfortable and the best in any hotel we have stayed in for a long time. The bathroom and shower was great and the kitchenette had everything we needed during our stay. The lake view balcony was great along with the big corner windows giving a great view of the lake and gardens whilst making the apartment lovely and light. The only minor grumble we had was the rooms were not made up until late afternoon which is a bit of a nuisance if you have been out for the day and want to relax and freshen up but find the room hasn’t yet been serviced. This happened to us twice and on one occasion we asked at reception if they could service our room whilst we had a drink in the garden but it still didn’t get done. For $500/night we would have expected the room to be serviced a bit quicker. That said this was a wonderful stay at a lovely hotel.

The location of the well-kept hotel is just perfect, right on the lake - and the centre of Wanaka can be reached in a pleasant walk past the famous Wanaka Tree. There are plenty of parking spaces available. The reception and service of the mostly very young staff are attentive and very friendly. We would particularly like to mention the concierge George, who organised two exciting excursions for us. His life experience and customer-orientation are exemplary. If only every hotel in this class had a gentleman like George. The flat was spacious and pleasantly furnished. There is only one small negative point to report: The bed for the third person in our party - made from a sofa bed - was not quite as comfortable as we had hoped. Perhaps something can be improved for the future. The rooms and the bathroom were clean and equipped with good toiletries. The room service was excellent: the meals were served warm and beautifully presented. The hotel offers a continental breakfast or a well assorted cooked breakfast. Both at a reasonable price. We recommend having it in the front part of the restaurant with a view of the lake or - in sunny weather - on the terrace. During our week at the Edgewater, we ate all our dinners at the hotel: The menu and wine list offer a good varied selection. We already stayed at the Edgewater in 2016/2017 and will be staying at this fine hotel again next time.

We were booked near the lobby in rom 404. View were nice and the suite is large. That though masks the negatives. Internet ran at 3MB downloads (when it was up and it was down most of the time in this room.) Had two technicians look at the router and they told me the cable must be busted in the wall. TV only had one channel and it was half screen scrambled. TV if bedroom never worked and technicians could not get it to work. Bed was reasonable comfortable but bedsheets are not fitted (ridiculous!) and they come off in the middle off the night. Lights over bathroom sink were missing 4 of the six bulbs and the two remaining were burned out This room is apparently due for renovation in 2025 and it's clear management is milking it until then. As for the restuarant, we ordered a number of things with another couple for dinner and it was all below average. Service was very poor. Over all a missed opportunity by the owners to capitalize on a picturesque location.

Thank you for taking the time to share feedback. I’m pleased you enjoyed the rooms and thank you for your comment regarding the large size of the suite. I apologise that we were not able to address the TV or Wi-Fi issues promptly and your stay was impacted as a result. We recently upgraded our WiFi offering and expect the service to be fast, consistent, and easy to use. I’m sorry this was not the case for you during your stay. The short-fitted sheet and problems with lights above the bathroom sink have been addressed. I appreciate your disappointment and can only say neither are consistent with the standards of presentation we expect. I also thank you for your feedback regarding the food and dinner service. We’ve now completed stage 1 of our site-wide refurbishment, with 26 Premium Rooms now available. The next stage will commence in February 2024. The intent of this investment is to provide a contemporary hotel experience that takes advantage of the hotel’s physical location adjacent to Lake Wanaka. Thank you again. I’d welcome the opportunity to discuss this further. Please note my email address gm@edgewater.co.nz
