Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our block was a bit shabby and needs external redecoration but inside the room was comfortable and spacious. It opened out to a large grassed area which ran down to the lake. It's an ambitious walk into town but a short drive with lots of parking spaces. Ate in the hotel restaurant. One good main, the other sent back. The town and area are well worth stopping at probably for two nights.

I really wanted to like the Edgewater because it is situated on one of the most beautiful lakes in all of New Zealand. And the one-bedroom suite was nicely furnished with sliding glass doors leading out into beautifully landscaped lawns. But the hotel is too large, and it lacks any of the coziness and charm of the other hotels I stayed at in NZ. Perhaps it is designed to accommodate large groups and has to make some sacrifices for the greater (larger) good. The breakfast buffet was the bare minimum but my biggest complaint was the combination washer/dryer in our suite. It took six hours to dry clothes...not great for a cyclist coming in after a day in the rain needing try clothes for the next day's ride.

Kia Ora James, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're pleased to hear you enjoyed our lakeside location and modern one-bedroom apartments with direct lake access. We appreciate your observations about the size of our resort. Situated on 10 acres of ground floor or single-story blocks, our design aims to seamlessly integrate with the natural landscape. Our main building, serving 103 rooms and hosting event spaces, caters to operational needs. While our restaurant frequently reaches capacity during peak season, we understand the importance of creating intimate spaces and are currently planning refurbishments to address this. Your specific input on the breakfast buffet is invaluable as we continuously strive to exceed expectations. If you could provide more details on what you feel is missing, we would greatly appreciate it. Please feel free to email me at gem@edgewater.co.nz. Regarding the washer/dryer inconvenience, I apologise for any difficulty. We will review instruction sheets and ensure staff are well-versed in assisting guests to optimize the use of our appliances. While our machines do have cycles as long as you have mentioned, there are shorter, more suitable cycles available. Thank you again for your feedback. We look forward to addressing these areas for an enhanced guest experience in the future.

Recent stay with family, location on the lake is excellent. Room size generous and kitchen and laundry handy..only issues were parking which was limited (we basically got the last spot at 3 in the afternoon) and a fire alarm that went off in the bathroom (strangely located in the hot water cupboard) at 7am, the balcony appeared had not been swept / cleaned for some time and wasn't appealing as a place to spend time..

Thank you for sharing your recent stay experience. We're thrilled that you enjoyed the lakeside location, spacious rooms, and the convenience of our kitchen and laundry facilities. We apologise for any inconvenience you faced during your stay. Our parking is complimentary but can get busy; our front desk team is always ready to assist, and there's additional free parking on Sargood Drive. The fire alarm incident is unusual, and we're investigating it further. We've also increased staff for balcony maintenance to ensure a more pleasant outdoor space. Your feedback is invaluable, and we're committed to making improvements. We hope to welcome you back for a seamless experience in the future.

Visited for dinner Oct 2023 While touring the South Island in a camper, we arrived in Wanaka for our 30th wedding anniversary a bit at a loose end as to where to have a special dinner. We were staying within walking distance to the Edgewater so decided to just pop in on the off chance for the evening. The staff were most accommodating and arranged a table for us while we took drinks out on the patio overlooking the lake. It really is a beautiful location. We sat down for dinner and the waitress was lovely. We shared the "Lamb for 2" dish which was incredible. The starters were likewise. There is a large choice of wines available and the choices we made were very good. Price wise it's as you'd expect a nice higher end establishment to be and to be honest, we found it to be very reasonable. We would return in an instant and would like to thank the staff for accommodating us at short notice and making our anniversary that bit special.

A bit outside the village at a fantastic location. Our room on the ground floor gave to lawn and lake. Breathtaking view! Book a room with lake view on ground floor! Simple but well equipped room (Nespresso coffee machine). Nice statt. Internet/WiFi was not working and the food was not more than ok/average; but overall a recommendation; there are probably (my guess) not many better places in Wanaka.

Terrific location just off the lake. Staff were friendly and the grounds were well maintained. Nice lounge area for visiting and having a drink. Buffet breakfast was average. Would have stayed longer if we could have.

This is a very nice hotel located right beside the lake. Rooms are big with big living area and facilities for cooking. Beds are comfortable with heating mattresses. Staff are friendly and helpful. My only issue is with the heavy footsteps from the tenants above us. While this is not the hotel fault, the situation could be avoided with better room allocation. But I understand there are many other factors to consider. Overall, a well run hotel.

Our room was clean and tidy but we had asked for twin beds for our kids which wasn’t provided, just a double. The shower was also luke warm at best. We told reception about this twice and complained about it on departure but nothing was done. Expected a little bit more for the price.

Hi OJM_NZ, we appreciate your feedback regarding your recent stay. It is not typical of us to get the bedding configuration incorrect for a guest, as we are fortunate to have many bed configuration options. Without knowing your booking details, it is unclear how this was missed upon your arrival, although I am confident that we would have rectified this as soon as we were aware, as splitting a bed is no problem at all for us. Regarding your comments about lukewarm water, I apologise you felt unheard by our team. This is never the impression we want to leave on a guest, as we are committed to providing swift action and effective solutions to any issues that may arise during a guest's stay. Your satisfaction is essential to us, and we genuinely appreciate your feedback. Unfortunately, TripAdvisor does not provide us with specific details about your stay, such as dates or booking information. To assist us in addressing your concerns more effectively, please feel free to contact our Guest Experience Manager, Alexandra, at gem@edgewater.co.nz. Providing further details will allow us to investigate your feedback thoroughly and take any necessary actions.

We stayed in room 404, which was very spacious, with a separate lounge and dining area and very large, comfortable bedroom and large well appointed ensuite. The room also has a very handy kitchenette. Loved the location, right on Lake Wanaka and it was extremely peaceful. We arrived to find that there was some major renovations being undertaken in some adjoining rooms, with some loud machinery. When we approached the manager about this, she was extremely accommodating in making our stay as comfortable as possible. We were very happy with the outcome and would definitely stay again when visiting Wanaka.

Hi, We stayed at the timeshare, Edgewater Club and visited the Wineglass Cafe on several occasions in June 2023. We can reccommend lunch at the Wineglass Cafe, as the food was tasty and well presented. We can reccommend the afternoon tea of cake and tea, as well. The almond cake was delicious. The current staff in the Wineglass Cafe were friendly and efficient. This was the third time I have ordered soup since Christmas 2022 and this time, I did not need to ask for a soup spoon as it came with my meal. Keep up the great work. It is the little things in life that make a difference. :-)
