This has been one of my favouite places I've been in New Zealand: I booked just two nights in this lodge and honestly I didn't really have hight expectations but i ended up staying more than two weeks!
I was planning to spend just few days in the Wanaka area but the location, the warm hospitality of Tania and Darryl and the really cosy lodge made me change mind. The lodge it's just 5 minutes driving out of Wanaka and 10 minutes to the beautiful Lake Hawea. Lots of activities such as biking (great tracks!), hiking and fishing are a the door steps and Tania is always helpful with hints and tips about thinghs to do in the area.
The lodge is very clean and Tania and Darryl are always providing a great service to make sure all the guests are comfortable and happy. The lounge is spacious and cosy, with a nice fireplace, a big TV and a kids area, the kitchen and the bathrooms are always clean and tidy while the garden - with a nice BBQ - is large and well kept. I was staying in a "dorm" room which was much better than an average hostel room, always warm and tidy.
I will definitely stay there again next time I'll visit New Zealand!

Old and dirty place. The 4-person room is tiny, the beds are very small, the carpet is old and the whole room smells like feet. Stay in YHA Wanaka instead. It's 100 times better than Albert Town Lodge and the room in YHA comes with your own bathroom and toilet.

We stayed in Zula Lodge only one night because our travel schedule was very tight but it was very good stay. The room was nice and clean. Easy access to the clean bathrooms, big kitchen and the lounge. We could eat our breakfast in the garden just walking out from our room. The lodge is located close to the lake and surrounded by beautiful views. Around 40 minutes drive to Queenstown and only 10 minutes drive to the nearest vineyard. You can use tv if you really need it or wifi for free. High recommended.

My husband and I stayed here one night. We understood it to be a backpackers as we have stayed in many in the past but at $150 a night thought it quite steep for the pretty average room. The lady that checked us in was very nice, we didn't really see any other staff. There is a note on the wall asking to please strip the sheets and pillowcases and place near the washing machine when you depart which we were happy to do - but, as a last impression seeing the state of the pillows we had just slept on - pretty disgusting. New pillows aren't expensive, especially when you charge $150 per night for the room.

Response from ZulaLodge, Manager at Zula Lodge
Responded 4 Jan 2017
So sorry to hear of your average experience, and thanks for the constructive criticism. Yes, our prices do go up over Christmas/New Years' as do those of most places in New Zealand. Our suggestion to guests is that, if they feel the prices for our double rooms are too high, there is always the cheaper option of a dorm bed.

Albert Town Lodge is the perfect spot to spend the night when travelling between the West Coast and Dunedin. A quiet location near Wanaka and the Clutha River. Tania, Darryl and their Daughter were great hosts - really welcoming, and made time for a chat to give advice before my onwards travel! I stayed in a spacious room with Queen bed and great heating! The bathrooms were nice and clean with good showers, a massive kitchen, lounge and dinning room meant there was lots of space and of course the offer internet which is always essential when planning a holiday!

I am so glad we found the Alberttown Lodge, we had been camping a lot and only staying at Hostels for one night every so often but after staying here, we booked four more nights. Tania and her husband we extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful with our trip. The whole place was very clean and well organized; as well as extremely well stocked (huge family room with tons of books, DVDs, and children's toys, large kitchen well stocked with cups, plates, silver ware, pots, pans, and free tea and coffee!) If I am ever in New Zealand again this will be the first place I call to stay!

We spent Easter at Alberttown Lodge - what a warm, inviting place for families! The place is spotless & the grounds are superb for the children to run about. There is lots of activities around the Lodge.
The managers (Darryl & Tania) are fantastic people - we will be back definately!
An excellent value for money place & my children had the marvellous experience of playing with a little German boy who barely spoke English to watching them interract was hilarious!
