Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Excellent service, even turn on room heater for us on a cold day before we come back, modern kitchen, very good facilities, and handy location to shop, Cafe and laundry within 2 minutes walking. Good shower, comfy bed and surprisingly good quality linen for a backpacker place.

Zula lodge was just like staying at a snow sports lodge up at Whakapap (childhood memories!) We had our own room and there were shared bathrooms within the lodge, and a massive fully equipped kitchen. The loungue was cozy with a fireplace and endlesd supply of books and board games.

We really enjoyed our stay here. We had a good room and it was beautiful and secluded. We stayed 2 nights as I was on school holidays. The price was awesome and the owners were very accommodating. We will be back for sure.

We stayed in Zula Lodge only one night because our travel schedule was very tight but it was very good stay. The room was nice and clean. Easy access to the clean bathrooms, big kitchen and the lounge. We could eat our breakfast in the garden just walking out from our room. The lodge is located close to the lake and surrounded by beautiful views. Around 40 minutes drive to Queenstown and only 10 minutes drive to the nearest vineyard. You can use tv if you really need it or wifi for free. High recommended.

We came for our honeymoon and got a private room with a double bed. The room was excellent and all of the facilities were very clean and at high quality. The owners are very friendly and we had a great and enjoyable chat. Highly recommended :) מקום מעולה! מאוד נקי, מטבח מאובזר ברמה גבוהה. מארחים חמודים ונחמדים ממש. מאוד מומלץ!

My husband and I stayed here one night. We understood it to be a backpackers as we have stayed in many in the past but at $150 a night thought it quite steep for the pretty average room. The lady that checked us in was very nice, we didn't really see any other staff. There is a note on the wall asking to please strip the sheets and pillowcases and place near the washing machine when you depart which we were happy to do - but, as a last impression seeing the state of the pillows we had just slept on - pretty disgusting. New pillows aren't expensive, especially when you charge $150 per night for the room.

Response from ZulaLodge, Manager at Zula Lodge

So sorry to hear of your average experience, and thanks for the constructive criticism. Yes, our prices do go up over Christmas/New Years' as do those of most places in New Zealand. Our suggestion to guests is that, if they feel the prices for our double rooms are too high, there is always the cheaper option of a dorm bed.

Needed a place to rest our heads. Owner/manager was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were simple, but comfortable. Large community kitchen with everything you may need. Great place to meet others and share stories.
