An historic, charming home built by the first European (Pakeha) born in this area, set in a fragrant old-world cottage garden. Nestled a stone's throw away from the famous fishing river, the Clutha river. Marie loves cooking. Allow yourselves to be pampered. We utilise fresh home grown or locally grown produce whenever possible. Dinners by prior arrangement.Relax in peace and tranquility, far from the "madding" crowds. Our cat "Indy" decided our hospitality (and presumably our food) was so good that she left home and moved into Ferryman's permanently.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Ferryman's Cottage is an ideal place to stay as a stopover. Nice residential area, quaint house with lovely garden. Comfortable room with en-suite bathroom. THE highlight is the warm hospitality of genial hosts Marie and Bryan. The breakfast they serve is truly outstanding. Lots of fresh local fruit, yoghurt, preserves, pastries, homemade muesli and more, accompanied by a delicious 'full-monty' cooked breakfast. We'd happily stay there again for sure.

This is very easy to locate in Albert Town and we could park our motorbikes off the road. Within walking distance there are not many eating options although for one night the nearby bar was acceptable. The river was a pleasant spot with lovely views from the nearby bridge. The room was a good size, entered through a cottage style garden with access to the room through the patio doors. The bathroom was a good size. There was no AC but the windows opened to allow a pleasant breeze. There are 2 guest rooms and guests have use of a lounge with tea and coffee facilities, this is also where breakfast is served. Breakfast was tasty with fresh fruit from the garden and cooked food too. The house could be described as classic, displaying a collection of items with luxurious touches such as cut crystal glasses at breakfast. It is certainly not modern and if you enjoy the classic and historic then this is the perfect place for you.

Marie and Bryan were very welcoming hosts and went out of there way to make our stay enjoyable. The room was very comfortable with it's own private shower and washing facilities. The breakfast was one of the best we have had in N.Z. with lots of fresh fruit cereals and of course a full English breakfast. We highly recommend this b&b. Very close to the b&b was a lovely walk along the river clutha.

After an active time in Fox Glacier, it was great to enjoy the peace and beautiful garden at Ferryman's cottage. Marie and Bryan welcomed me warmly. My room was comfortable (no TV), very clean and a spacious bathroom. In the separate lounge you can drink coffee and tea and enjoy the tasty cookies. It is wonderful to sit on the porch and enjoy the beautiful flowers and birds in the garden. Albert Town is not far from Wanaka. At the cottage you can make a nice walk along the Clutha river with beautiful spring flowers. Breakfast was tasty with plenty of choice. Bryan thanks for the nicely fried eggs. I enjoyed the hospitality of Marie and Bryan. Thanks.

We stayed at Ferryman's Cottage for two nights during our honeymoon. The historic cottage is beautiful with a lovely garden entrance. The room we stayed in was comfortable and the perfect size for two people, and we greatly enjoyed the cozy sitting room where we ate breakfast each morning. Speaking of breakfast - it has to be the best breakfast in all of New Zealand! Bryan cooked a delicious hot breakfast using fresh herbs from the garden, and Marie laid out a large and beautifully presented continental assortment. Bryan and Marie were incredibly friendly hosts, and they were very knowledgable about the local area. We went on several hikes while in Wanaka, and Marie was able to give good recommendations about the trails. Overall, Ferryman's Cottage provided a fantastic stay in a beautiful cottage with friendly hosts and the best breakfast in New Zealand!

Marie and Bryan are very congenial hosts and gave us lots of tips about where to go, including a lovely walk along the River Clutha, and where to eat. The cottage is delightful, with a lot of historic charm, and also very clean and comfortable. There is a lovely guest lounge, where you can help yourself to hot drinks and Marie’s lovely home made biscuits. It was a joy to sit out on the verandah and admire Marie’s beautiful cottage garden. Breakfast was superb and fresh raspberries from the garden were a real treat. NB, the wi fi was the fastest we found in NZ.

Our stay at Ferryman's cottage was the best part of our NZ trip. Marie and Brian have created a haven for tired travellers that is so good we actually paused our tourist itinerary and just enjoyed the peacefulness of the garden and their hospitality. In fact we've stayed in lots of B&B, from the north of Scotland to the south of NZ and this is one of the best. Thank you for the comfort, breakfasts, information and warm welcome.

Brian and Katie go out of their way to make you feel at home. The breakfast is wonderful with homemade jams and fruit compots as a compliment to the main cooked course. Albert Town is quite a way out of Wanaka so a car or bikes are necessary.
