We had the kindest and warmest Hosts Jo and Peter who welcomed us in their beautiful home with spectacular pond and garden. We were served like royals with their sumptuous breakfast. I saw colourful and beautiful wild mushrooms in their garden. Highly recommended
We have just spent a night at Matuka Lodge, on the edge of Twizel, during our A2O cycle trip. We can highly recommend you visit this place, hosts Peter and Jo are the epitome of hospitable and enjoy a good laugh too! You have the main lodge at your disposal with very reasonably priced drinks, nibbles and a beautiful breakfast. (Food allergies addressed). The rooms have their own bathrooms, sumptuous robes and beautiful beds with excellent linen (love that!). Jo very kindly washed our cycling gear too - over and above expectations. The property has a pond with ducks and trout, and is set in a pretty garden. Do not be put off that it is just out of Twizel - Jo made us a dinner reservation in town, Peter dropped us off and picked us up! All amenities are on hand - from spa baths and hair driers, any TV/satellite channel you could wish for/am excellent range of drinks/local, sensible knowledge. We will be back!…
Completely breathtaking with the most wonderful hosts. I have a background in hotel management with the Hyatt, and both myself and my partner are used to travelling a lot and staying in luxury accommodation... yet this lodge has completely surpassed our expectations, with its stunning views and luxurious accommodation. The hosts are warm and welcoming, they go the extra mile and nothing is too much trouble. The lodge has all the amenities you could wish for; the attention to detail is incredible from the complimentary food to the after-dinner liqueurs and gorgeous fire we did not want to leave!. If it's an experience that is beyond special then this is the place - Matuka lodge you have our heart!
My husband and I stayed at the lodge for 3 glorious days and everything about the lodge was heavenly. Jo was the host of all hosts. Absolutely loved her. She shared her knowledge of the area which we found so interesting. The setting is stunning and the lodge beautiful. So warm and relaxing. On our future visits there Makutu Lodge will be our go to place without a doubt. Thank you Jo for everything. X Janine and Allan Wagstaff - Te Aroha
This is a very cosy, well equipped, very quiet, renovated, accommodation provider. It has a great location, the owners are the staff and are lovely and smilingly helpful. The cost reflected the superior amenities very fairly. We especially loved the simple things, the delicious cake, beautiful breakfast, but most of all, the simple but effective Star Gazing recliners and blankets. Naomi and I enjoyed the hospitality offered and will return.
