Motel very complete and spacious cabins as seen in the photos. The single bathroom has everything you need (towels, soaps...) as well as the small kitchen (fridge, cutlery...) All clean and tidy. We were made a very nice stay and the reception staff very nice. You have free parking and have washing machines and dryers in a separate cabin, but I remember it was 4 dollars nz the use of the washing machine and another 4 that of the dryer (work only with coins of 2) The dryer has no timer, you stop it whenever you want to open the door, so the clothes are ready for the next day. As an option to base in Twizel and then move to the lakes and Mount Cook is very, very recommended. If you have to put a but, it is that being such a large room, with very high ceilings and the door not excessively airtight can be cold. It has air conditioning to heat it but takes a while. Otherwise without any glue, we would repeat.

The Mountain Chalet Motel was our first stop on our holiday after leaving Christchurch.

The individual chalets are very spacious with everything you need for a short stay.

The beds are very comfortable with an upstairs that has three beds and a downstairs that has a seperate double bedroom. We sometimes have problems finding accomodation for five people but this fitted our needs perfectly.

The whole Chalet is very warm and cosy.

One minor issue, but no major, one bathroom meant a bit of a hold up at times.

The day after we arrived four of our group took off for Mt Cook to do touristy things. I was exhausted after the long drive and spent the day discovering the little town.

Just around the corner was the most delightful of dinning places…Poppies.

The staff were nice and they made the best coffee i had had in ages….recommended.

The following day (Monday) I suggested we all go there for breakfast. Sadly it was closed.

I would recommend the Mountain Chalet and it is a reasonable price compared to places nearer to some of the tourist spots.

The Mountain Chalet Motels has cute chalet type units, that are nice and quiet. Rooms are clean, but quite dated in their decor; the kitchen is not so large and has the bare minimum equipment
The wifi is not very good: low signal and easy to disconnect.
All in all this motel appears a little bit overpriced.

It's all ruined.
Can't cook anything, tiny and bad material.
The floor of the shower is stainless steel (like a sink...) and there is NO pressure. A mini trickle of water... impossible to use. Same for the review of the sink of the bathroom.
Everything else is the same.
Bad value for money! We did not like it at all.

I stayed here one night as a base for Mt Cook adventures. It was one of the few affordable lodging options in the area. This is what I would call a basics hotel. It has everything you need, but the furnishings are definitely older and the rooms show their age. The rooms were clean, no complaints there, but it doesn't offer anything besides the basics. If you are looking for an affordable option, this will work just fine. If you have a little more money to spend and are looking for more comfort/amenities, you can definitely do better. I'd recommend this for a night if you are passing through.

This is the first time I have ever come across a motel that expect you to do any dishes that you use. Don’t get me wrong I always do clean up after using any dishes but to have it in writing that you will be charged extra if you don’t do them is a first.
Small and cosy would best describe these units.

We had a very comfortable stay here for one night on the way from Wanaka to Mount Cook and Tekapo. The attractive chalets (we were allocated one with the "L" of "MOTEL" on it) are very well equipped for self-catering and for large groups there is plenty of sleeping space upstairs. It's a short walk into Twizel village where you will find no fewer than two Four Square supermarkets, which seems more than one would expect in such a small place. Even better, on the grass beyond the motel there is a display of machinery used to construct the hydro-electric power infrastructure in the locality in the 1960s. It's well worth a walk around.

We booked for one night on booking.com for 31st December 2023. My credit card was charged immediately. The next day Glenna from the motel text me to say I would need to cancel my booking because they have a minimum 4 night stay over that period. She blamed it all on booking.com that I was able to book that date and never took any responsibility herself. I was made to feel like I had done something wrong?! The terms and conditions clearly said if I cancelled I wouldn’t receive a refund. Yet she asked me to cancel from my end (presumably to save on a penalty charge she would receive from booking.com). I said I thought the booking should still be honoured in the circumstances. She declined and then cancelled the booking from her end. I asked how I get my refund, she said I would need to contact booking.com and made no effort to assist me with that at all. The customer service was terrible and we will not stay here again or recommend it to others - we had previously stayed here. I am still now waiting on my refund!

We stayed here 2 nights before going on the Cavalcade at the end of February. Was a 2 bedroom unit and had a good bathroom, all shampoo and body wash supplied in dispensers. A full kitchen with stove and usual amenities, and bed was very comfortable. We used the laundry which was well equipped and as it was a sunny day put washing on the line rather than drier. We found the staff to be friendly and very helpful including the ladies who serviced the unit. It was so good that we came back a night after the cavalcade to a single bedroom unit which was more modern and had a wet floor bathroom. We had no complaints. Nice tidy units

All the amenities were functioning. The room size was good. There were plenty of nice restaurants & convenience stores nearby. Parking was available and convenient. The view of the stars at night from outside the room was lovely. The room was really nice for stargazing and if you're really lucky, a hint of aurora could be visible.
