Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is the first time I have ever come across a motel that expect you to do any dishes that you use. Don’t get me wrong I always do clean up after using any dishes but to have it in writing that you will be charged extra if you don’t do them is a first.
Small and cosy would best describe these units.

We stayed here 2 nights before going on the Cavalcade at the end of February. Was a 2 bedroom unit and had a good bathroom, all shampoo and body wash supplied in dispensers. A full kitchen with stove and usual amenities, and bed was very comfortable. We used the laundry which was well equipped and as it was a sunny day put washing on the line rather than drier. We found the staff to be friendly and very helpful including the ladies who serviced the unit. It was so good that we came back a night after the cavalcade to a single bedroom unit which was more modern and had a wet floor bathroom. We had no complaints. Nice tidy units

Very clean. Friendly staff
Strangely increased the price from that advertised by Booking.com for NZers supporting local businesses
I’ll use Booking.com next time
Directed us to supermarket and to Poppies Restaurant which was expensive compared to others.
Lovely Thai restaurant in the shopping centre. Very friendly.

We stayed in a small studio with a large double bed, it was small but nicely decorated in a mountain chalet style single building. It did have air conditioning but unfortunately due to the size of the room it blew directly onto the bed and we had to switch it off. The bathroom was also small but adequate. The chalets are scattered around the site and it was a little difficult getting to ours as other customers parked near their chalets and obstructed the path through. Its about a 5 minute drive into the small town where there are a couple of restaurants. The owner was very friendly.

I cannot recommend it at all. It was dirty, furniture were worn-down and the receptionist was very unmotivated. Twizel as such seems to be a depressing place.

I copied this from a review from 2012 because it sums up my experience exactly, seems nothing has changed since 2012.
The staff were lack lustered, the room was dirty, everything was OLD...
I guess the Chalet was cute...

Hi Are you talking about our Lodge? That is the only one that has worn furniture. We have order new furniture for it and we are waiting for it to arrive. We do upgrading every year in the winter time, Last year we focused on furniture and new heat pumps/Air con through out the whole place. We have a someone that goes around and checks the rooms once the cleaners have finished, Sorry things do get missed but we try to keep on top of it. Kind Regards Glenna

We paid just over $187.00 for one night in this dated motel . The place was clean but lacked a cosy atmosphere. These motels date back to the late 60s or 70s when this type of building was popular. This is revealed by the number of fixtures and fittings from that era . The double bed also seemed from that era as it wasn’t very comfortable. Tried turning the oven on but it didn’t work . We though this motel was overpriced. We are on a tour and have frequented a number of these establishments so are in a position to compare and this motel rates rather poorly price wise to other motels which have 21st century fixtures and fittings .

Cute chalet, clean and tidy. Very private and you can park your car outside your chalet.
The room was quite dark, there was only a couple of small lights, but it gave it a cosy feel.
Very powerful shower ad well equipped kitchen.
Recommended as a stopover.

We got the smallest studio chalet, "the dollhouse", but it was the perfect size for a solo traveller or a young couple. There is nothing fancy about the room, there are small maintenance issues such as paint peeling and the bathroom is truly tiny, but we were warm and cosy and the character of the wooden A-frame chalets make up for the small faults. There is also a skylight in this unit (and in others, but not all) for stargazing, and although it was cloudy our entire stay and we didn't get to use it, it's a great idea nonetheless. Would return in the future.

We booked for one night on booking.com for 31st December 2023. My credit card was charged immediately. The next day Glenna from the motel text me to say I would need to cancel my booking because they have a minimum 4 night stay over that period. She blamed it all on booking.com that I was able to book that date and never took any responsibility herself. I was made to feel like I had done something wrong?! The terms and conditions clearly said if I cancelled I wouldn’t receive a refund. Yet she asked me to cancel from my end (presumably to save on a penalty charge she would receive from booking.com). I said I thought the booking should still be honoured in the circumstances. She declined and then cancelled the booking from her end. I asked how I get my refund, she said I would need to contact booking.com and made no effort to assist me with that at all. The customer service was terrible and we will not stay here again or recommend it to others - we had previously stayed here. I am still now waiting on my refund!

Very well equipped chalet which more that adequately met our needs. Very spacious and clean. Good laundry facilities and a washing line which meant our clothes dried without the need for a drier! Lady at reception was very pleasant and helpful and gave us details of eateries etc locally. We ate at a nearby cafe (Poppies) which was a hidden gem in such a small town.
