We had the “executive” apartment at a hefty NZ300 per night. The only “executive” element was that the open plan sitting-dining-kitchen area was larger than in the average motel. The room looked a bit tired and the bathroom only had a liquid soap dispenser, as obviously “executives” don’t want toiletries. No tissues in the apartment - “executives” presumably bring their own. Also offensive was a threatening sign in the kitchen area that before the 10 am checkout all dishes had to washed, dried and “returned to where they came from” or else there would be “a charge to your credit card” - although I doubt if it is legal to charge someone for not drying and putting away a dish! We washed kitchen equipment before use as it seemed that some previous visitors had only honoured the…
One of the cheaper options in Twizel, this motel is very well maintained. The room and the bathroom (with spa) were impeccable. There is a small kitchenette with good basic kitchen equipment. The owners are friendly and professional, and made contact before we stayed there to confirm our booking. There aren't many accommodation choices in Twizel but this is a very decent one with good wifi.
For a reasonably standard motel, it is well maintained and impeccably clean. Surprisingly quiet even though we were in the rooms closest to the road. Added advantage of the food trucks across the road, especially the dhal and flatbreads from the Indian one. We were staying at the start of the A2O cycle ride so had 2 nights, the staff were accommodating of our bikes and gear and very helpful and friendly.
Having stayed at various establishments in Twizel over the years, we were very pleasantly surprised by everything we found in The Lakes Motel. It was spotlessly clean and the beds were comfortable, with plenty of room for the two of us. We were given a warm welcome by the hosts and were given all the help we needed. The only negative was the price, but other establishments in the area were at a similar level, so not surprising.
The property is old, but well maintained. The rooms are large. The wifi was good. The water was hot. The mattress was a little different, but that's purely a personal preference. Parking is very tight, but I think you could park on a nearby street, if needed. Food trucks in the park across the street in the evening.
