Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very welcoming & accommodating. Me & my partner had hired a campervan unfortunately it had broken down late afternoon, despite the motel being rather busy we was found a room for the evening, the room was basic but has everything you needed (towels, soaps, pots, pans, cutlery, tv) the day after we checked out we realised we had left an expensive item behind in the room, the item was kept safe for us & given back to us with ease the following day. We couldn’t ask for better customer service :)

The person in charge of the reception accomodated us being late. Entered the room its spacious and the bathroom has a good space and a nice hot water pressure. Close the everything a traveller needs. Downside of our stay is when the fire siren triggered and asked everyone to leave at 5:30 am that lasted under 5 mins which i think is a fake one because there was no warden in sight when that happened.

The room we were in smelt terrible like only smokers have ever stayed there and the smell had imbedded in the curtains and couch. Left as soon as we woke up . The walls are paper thin so could hear old mate in the next room snoring his ring off all night.

I don't know how to make an official complaint about this. I did book at this lodge but not for the dates or the number of people. I tried several times to correct this online but to no avail. Then I get a phone call from a very rude lady to say that I did in fact book those dates and for 2 people. She basically said 'too bad.......you've been charged anyway"

We stayed 1 night with our daughter, worse night sleep ever. The beds were old and all 3 beds were saggy and very uncomfortable and all ended up with sore backs the next morning. The kitchen cupboards needed a good clean so we did not eat in the unit. Ended up leaving at 7 am next morning as we couldn’t wait to leave. Definitely would not recommend this place.

High Country Holiday Lodge is located about 45 minutes from Mt Cook. I had a room with shared bathroom facilities. It was comfortable enough with a double and single bed, fridge and TV. The bathroom area was fine. The shared kitchen/dining area is pretty good. There are supermarkets and restaurants closeby also. I thought this place represented good value for money compared to other places I stayed on the South Island

A good place to stay, in a quiet town, close to the fabulous Mt Cook. The owner gave us great advice and we had a good visit to the surrounds. A different , spread out resort, but well run and excellent value

Were does one start. Well we gave 1 star because there is no half star. The room was stale smelling with minimal everything. The room was tiny and uncomfortable. Shaving, teeth cleaning and washing up had to be done in the same sink as it was the only one. We did not use the the bits of odd crockery as they did not appear to be clean. The television was an old 14 inch with 2 channels.....the binoculars were not supplied. The website information was very misleading. We paid $100 for the night. This was definitely not value for money. Next time we will not be stopping at Twizel.

We stayed here 20 years ago in a motel unit and it was good. It has really gone downhill. The booking form said there were breakfast facilities. To us that meant breakfast is provided. We were told it didn't mean food but a toaster. There were three cups none of them matched. Apart from a cup of tea, we did not use any of the other crockery or cutlery as they did not look clean. We couldn't wait to leave.

Worst stay ever. Where to start, the room was incredibly uncomfortable, I believe the thought is to give on purpose an uncomfortable stay because the room doesn't come with bedsides and the power points are too far from the bed. The furniture is incredibly old that when you open a draw or the wardrobe a stale smell cames out, which doesn't have any sense to use it and store your clothes. No ventilation in the room. The mattress is also uncomfortable and gives you back pain. The Wi-fi keeps dropping off, so you can't use it. The TV is an old CRT TV with only one channel. I get there are not many accommodations available around, but charging for just a roof above the head I think is too much. I'm sure the owner knows where to improve, but without many competitors around, why spend money on refurbishment? Not an honest way to take the money from tourists!!
