Twizel is very much a summer destination so the hotel offers accommodation only
We were warmly welcomed and immediately told that neither the restaurant nor the bar would be open.
As Twizel was just our overnight stop on our way from Christchurch to Queenstown this was not a major issue.
It became no issue at all when it was pointed out that Poppies cafe and restaurant was just across the street from the hotel
We were given a local map and we were recommended a restaurant for our evening meal a short drive away.
The room was large and the beds were very comfortable. The hotel is away from the town centre so it was very quiet. We got a good night's sleep.
Poppies lived up to its billing and the brunch set us up for the day's drive.
While I have deducted one star for the lack of onsite catering it was not an issue for us. I would certainly be happy to return to the hotel in the summer and stay for a few days to explore the town and its surroundings.

Stayed one night over long weekend in a standard room. The room is very large, two double beds. Everything is quite dated but was very clean and serviceable. The heater is quite small for the room size so it never got that toasty in the room, but there are electric blankets on the bed and fan heater in bathroom. Quite a few people on the night we were there including a small tour group, bar was busy and has nice fireplace. We did not use the restaurant as we chose to pop into town for dinner - only two minutes in the car, would have walked but zero degrees outside.

Lady at desk was lovely and very helpful.

Bottom line, not flash but a good solid offering and great value for money, particularly if you are just looking for a place to rest for the night.

This is a large hotel in Twizel and has been closed for some time because of Covid. Thus our room was cold but we heated it up satisfactorily and there were warm rooms around reception to relax in. In the late afternoon the fire was lit and a great place to enjoy a drink before dinner. Food was good pub food and beautifully cooked.

This hotel need a facelift, Nice large rooms but that's it.
There is nothing in the room ! Like glass in the toilet or liquid soap, feeds like 1980 in Russia.
Beware of the restaurant, beside a waiting time of one hour for the food, nowone told us that the buffet was an option insead of a la carte.
Fully comparable with Fawlty Towers.

On check in we were advised of an upgrade to a deluxe room, which we thought was very nice. After entering the deluxe room and putting our bags away when found there was no shower curtain in the bathroom, which we requested. We then settled in and to out dismay had to clean all surfaces of dust build up and cup circles for the bed side tables. I understand the last few years have been difficult for the tourism industry, but there is absolutely no excuse for supplying a room that house keeping has not checked/cleaned before your guests arrive to check inn.

This is a dreadful place to stay. Avoid it! We arrived on Sunday around 17:00 for our two-night stay to enable us to explore the Mount Cook region. The young girl on the desk said she was the only member of staff in the hotel at that time and that she’d been working since 07:30. Consequently the bar and restaurant were closed. She said that we had been upgraded to a deluxe room. When we arrived in our room it was a drab and dirty family room (a double bed and two singles). The only pleasant thing about it was a view over the peaceful gardens. The bathroom was very outdated and smelled of drains. When we had a shower the bathroom drain overflowed onto the bathroom floor. We were told by the young girl on reception that even though we had pre booked and paid for a full breakfast, there was no breakfast available as the single chef was taking time off. She offered us $NZ60 in all so we could walk 10 minutes into town each morning to get breakfast at the very good Hydro cafe. We pointed out that this was an offer of $NZ 15 per day each and that it would be impossible to buy a full break fast at Hydro. She reluctantly gave us $NZ90. We arrived back at the hotel after our first day to find that although the towels had been replaced in the bathroom, our bed had not been made, tea and coffee had not been replenished and cups had not been washed or replaced. We left at 07.30 this morning as we could not wait to leave this dirty hotel. Reception was not open and all exterior and interior doors were locked. We left our key in the door of our room and left through a side exit where overflowing bags of dirty laundry had been dumped.

On a tour of NZ, we stayed here for one night. Although we were advised that the town was a 10 minute walk, we had no spare time to venture outside the hotel.

The room was large with 2 beds but the furniture and bathroom were tired and in need of updating. There was no aircon but with a door opening on to the grounds, we could get enough fresh air in. The buffet dinner was good but the choices for breakfast were limited.

The was a great palce to stop overnight after walking in Mount Cook area. The hotel room was on the first floor and was large with two double beds and two stylish lounge chairs, a small balcony also with two chairs. The hotel was a little dated (1990s?) but perfectly fine and clean. Large bathroom with shower over bath with curtain. No Sky Tv channels just the basics and poor (fuzzy) TV reception.
Excellent Buffet resturant with roasts, Salads and Veges for $40NZD PP very good meal and nice surroundings. Friendly manager, Jackie very helpful and cheery. It is a large hotel for a small town and no lifts to acess first floor. Heaps of open air car parking and lovely helpful receptionists. Good value at $180NZD per night.

Possibly the worst hotel I’ve been in. Too many faults to mention but here are some. Rotting cornice over the old fashioned bath and shower, faulty door lock, no decent glasses or cups, only mirror hidden by the large tv on the dresser in front of tv. It seems that they are only interested tour bus groups (large ones there when we were there). A la Carte Menu as shown on website for breakfast simply does not exist - buffet only and not cheap. Notices about hot water usage, flooding of bathroom, fines for this or that!

A comfortable & pleasant place to stay. Generous room sizes combined with large common areas are a great feature of this hotel. The restaurant seemed fairly basic but an excellent alternative is located directly across the road. With our summer stay, an air conditioner would have been nice but should not be a deal breaker.
