Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Recently, on our fourth visit to New Zealand, we discovered Gladstone Cottage. What a wonderful find! It is located in a quiet area just outside of Twizel and has everything you could wish for. Sheer luxury. There is beautiful scenery all around and we found the cottage ideal for exploring places like Mt. Cook Village and Lake Tekapo. What made this cottage extra special was its owners, Margaret and Peter, who really looked after us - a very caring couple. (Pauline and Shaun).

A cute little cottage at the front of the owners house, far enough away for yr privacy. The hosts Peter and Margaret and very warm welcoming people. There was a board out the front of our cottage with a personal welcome to us- a lovely touch. They had the fire going when we arrived, which was great as it was a very cold night. The bedrooms were large enough and comfortable beds. Would probably suit a family more then two couples as there is only one queen and two single beds.( not that it bothered us). Also only one bathroom with the toilet and shower together is a bit of a no no for me. I would still highly recommend Gladstone cottages for a comfortable stay in a lovely part of New Zealand.

After seeing the reviews, I booked this cottage for 3 nights during the Maadi Cup rowing. Owners insisted on a 50% non-refundable deposit, since they had been let down by "rowing families" previously. I agreed. Two weeks before the booking, my son was withdrawn from his rowing team for medical reasons. I contacted owner and asked if they were prepared to transfer my booking and deposit to some friends. The owner agreed to this variation of the original agreement, so I informed my friends who duly went ahead and made their booking. A week later they were told that they would not be credited with my deposit - my friends went ahead with the booking anyway, since the owner threatened to charge them the full amount whether they stayed or not (she had their credit card number by then).

I have had to take this woman to the Disputes Tribunal in an attempt to get her to honour her word. At the Disputes Tribunal, she accused me of using bullying and abusive language, while denying that she had made the variation to the agreement. All untrue. So - avoid if you can, but if you must stay there, make sure you have records of all conversations & transactions. You might need them!

The hosts (the cottage is on their property), Peter and Margaret, were mot friendly and helpful, The location was very pleasant, away from the hustle and bustle of town. The cottage is quite roomy, with a comfortable living area and TV. The kitchen was well equipped and even had a dishwasher and decent-sized freezer in the refrigerator, The washing machine was very handy, although it would had been nice to have a dryer so that clothes didn't need to be hung outside or on a drying rack (although the drying rack worked OK for the few items we washed). It is very easy to unload luggage from the immediately adjacent parking area.

A dryer would be good. And screens on the windows (albeit very uncommon in New Zealand) might be helpful to keep out the inevitable insects that come in at night when the lights are on and the windows are open to cool the cottage down.

We love how friendly the hosts, Margaret and Peter are! It was our best stay among all of our accommodations in New Zealand. We used the BBQ equipment provided - no issue at all! The cottage is cozy, spacious, well-equipped, absolutely nothing we can fault! Would love to stay here again in the future : )

We enjoyed one quiet and content night at Gladstone Cottage. This simple but peaceful cottage was the perfect place to stay in Twizel and make some dinner, sit on the patio and then watch the stars. Nice running trail out back and owners were there to greet us and show us the workings of the place. Nice hiking information book also provided to help plan your day.

Arriving hungry and tired with a sore tail bone after cycling the Alps to Ocean trail in hot, blustery winds, Margaret kindly provided a plate of brie and crackers - no charge. Peter then gave us a lift to Shawty's and the next day, my tail bone not recovered, Peter offered to take me and my bike to my next destination, Lake Ohau Lodge. Peter was going to Lake Ohau village anyway but he happily went 10km out of his way. Thanks Peter and Margaret for being so helpful and welcoming.

We all enjoyed our stay at this comfortable, quiet, roomy and very clean cottage.

A guest in our B&B accommodation by chance advised us of this wonderful cottage in NZ, so we decided to give it a try. It was everything it was cracked up to be! The welcome was wonderful and the hospitality outstanding. Margaret and Peter clearly take pride in what they do and ensuring guest comfort. The cottage was beautifully presented, spacious, clean and safe, and the breakfast provisions were generous. The cottage is located in the centre of stunning scenery and we would recommend a minimum of 2 days stay in the area. Margaret and Peter have incredible local knowledge and we appreciated their willingness to share it.

We very much enjoyed our two nights stay at Gladstone Cottage this December. The owners are super friendly and welcoming. The cottage is comfortable, clean, and very well equipped (oven, dishwasher, washing machine). Twizel is a good base to explore the Mount Cook valley, Lake Tekapo or the region around Omarama. We felt very comfortable at this place.
