Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Reception on arrival was very friendly although no other information was imparted other than acknowledgement of booking, payment and location of our unit.
Our unit was an upstairs room which clearly was an addition to the managers own house, and also likely to have been (or still was given that there was an internal entrance door), and additional flat for family members or guests.
Room itself was of a studio type arrangement, containing a single and large comfortable queen-sized bed. Well furnished, including a descent sized dining table from which one could work, and a television with Sky channels for entertainment. Excellent Wi-Fi service.
Being upstairs also provided some greater privacy than other Motel Occupants, and a great deal more sunlight during the day. This did however also make the unit very warm and use of open windows became essential. There was also available a large fan if desired.
Bathroom was spacious and adequate. Kitchenette was minimally adequate.
What mostly spoiled our stay here however was the fact that while indicating (as was required) that we wished to have our room serviced, this was not done despite obvious signs that the cleaner had at least entered the unit while we were away for the day. Towels were not replaced other than a tea towel, replacement tea/coffee/chocolate sachets were not provided, bathroom area had not been cleaned and a dish washing cloth had been removed.
Very well located within the township, with access to the towns centre being almost just across the road.
Clearly a budget type Motel, and therein lies its value.

This motel was exceptionally clean and comfortable. When we arrived the heater was already on so the room was warm, and given it was about 3 degree day, this was very welcome. Decor has been updated and is modern. Cost was also very reasonable, and people we dealt with were professional but still friendly.

Good location in middle of town.
Twizel is just a stop over point and this was fine.
A full kitchen which enabled us to eat in.
Unit could do with a new fry pan and the kitchen bench could probably be replaced and might lighten dark rooms.
Good beds and good sleep.

Two of us stayed here while doing the A2O. The motel is centrally located with a good sized room and a real kitchen where you can really prepare food except fish & curry. We were in one of the ground floor units with parking right out front except we didn't need that because they put our bikes in the garage. Definitely a great place for a night or two specially if you value access to a kitchen

We got a really warm welcome from our young host when we biked in. Colonial had everything cyclists need - good bike storage, excellent showers, heaps of room for wrangling panniers and everything for cold beers or hot tea. Highly recommeded.

We were really disappointed with Colonial Motel. The rooms are old, dated and feel downmarket. We could accept that if they were priced accordingly but they were not. The big problem was that the room smelled strongly of smoke despite there being a sign on the door saying it was smokefree. As non-smokers, we found the smell of smoke overpowering. The other problem was that the pillows (not the pillow cases but the actual pillows) really stunk. Neither of us had a decent night's sleep. We would never stay there again.

This place is really nice. Stayed here twice now and have had a good experience both times. Staff who work there are lovely. Rooms are comfortable and have good kitchens, bathrooms and plenty of space. Great location. Only complaint is uselessly thin curtains in room 9 which block out no light and there is no curtain over the glass panel on the door. Other than that, it’s ideal.

Kitchen and bathroom are not luxurious but they are functional and spotless. Very big room with two separate sleeping areas as well as the common area. Laundry on site (not in room). Stone’s throw to a little plaza in town with a few restaurants, coffee, and groceries. We’d originally hoped to stay in Mt Cook Village but we were happy we ended up in Twizel. A little bit of noise from in town but it was new year’s eve so that may not be typical.

This 1 bedroom suite was very roomy and cozy. Much larger than it looks outside and very comfortable table, chairs and couch. Shower and bed were excellent also. Kitchen had everything we needed and very close to the supermarket and RSA.

Room Tip: Any room would be fine. No noise as Twizel is quiet (at least in non-snow season)
