Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort is celebrated for its captivating location with beautiful beaches and tranquil sunsets, although it is somewhat remote. The resort's cleanliness and well-maintained grounds are frequently praised, as is the inviting atmosphere accentuated by spacious rooms and ocean vistas. While the amenities, including beachside activities and dining experiences, are generally appreciated, guests suggest that some areas could benefit from renovation. Opinions on value and service are mixed; some guests believe the experience is worth the cost and commend the staff's friendliness, while others have noted service inconsistencies and unmet expectations.

We stayed in the hotel for 10 nights and had a magnificent time in what is, in my opinion, one of the best areas to stay in the whole island.

Check in was handled by Diksha who was really friendly and gave us a tour of the hotel before showing us to our room. As for the room, we were in the Beachfront Room which I would thoroughly recommend (travelling for my parents' anniversary we were given a complimentary upgrade along with other goodies including an anniversary cake). We had our own little private section of beach basically to ourselves just a few meters from our balcony and the room itself was very large. Of course, like most reviews have mentioned, the room and hotel itself is dated but they are currently going through the process of renovation so this is something to bear in mind if you are visiting; the hotel is dated and the rooms especially are in need of refurbishment, in particular the air conditioning which wasn't good enough and we found ourselves being quite hot (though we solved this issue with a fan). Also, I know that we were staying in a tropical island on a beachfront room so of course you are going to get insect bites, but I think there could be more done to solve the insect problem. Maybe the hotel could even fit mosquito nets because I did end up with a lot of bites.

The location I would say is the best on the island since it's so scenic and green. Being away from the more built up north of the island gives a sense of seclusion and you feel more relaxed I think. Specifically in Bel Ombre, I think Outrigger has the best location in terms of its beach compared to its neighbours like Heritage and Sofitel who's beaches are a bit rocky and where the water isn't as clear and clean. The beach at Outrigger is truly stunning, you have coral reefs as soon as you enter and do take advantage of the free water activities such as canoeing and paddleboarding. You could genuinely just spend hours just appreciating the beauty of the beach with its pristine white sands and clear blue waters and especially watching the sunset from the pier. Also if you are going to be walking along the beach, I would recommend you buy beach shoes since there's quite a lot of rocks and corals. Around the hotel there is an abundance of nature reserves, waterfalls, hiking trails, sugar plantations etc which I would recommend renting a car to go and see for yourself since there is no public transport in the area. We spent quite a lot of time at the beach since it was so picturesque and just a few meters from us but the pools were lovely as well and matched the chilled out vibes of the hotel being quite large and shallow. The plantation style infrastructure and grounds at the hotel are really well maintained as well and is in fitting with the location, everything is really spread out in the hotel which adds to the relaxed feeling.

With food, I think that the lack of options at Edgewater for Half Board (without paying extra) means that you are pretty much restricted to buffet at Mercado which was still good. The Indian and Asian section was particularly nice though I felt the curries lacked salt and I never got bored of the white and dark chocolate ice cream for dessert. A special mention to the fantastic staff at Mercado including Rajesh and Sheetal as well as the chef Yanish. You can also eat at Le Bleu for dinner and the highlights for me were the chicken pizza and beef burger, both of which are excellent. Again I would like to mention Sandy and Wazeer for their impeccable service at Le Bleu. Maybe one thing I would say is that if maybe another restaurant would be opened or possibly expanding the offerings at both Edgewater and Le Bleu, it would make the food experience even better.

The service in general at the hotel was second to none, the staff are so kind even the security guards at the gate who always smiled. They all genuinely try their best even if the hotel is very busy and service might be a bit slower than usual. I particularly want to mention Anoop from the concierge who organised an excursion to Ile Aux Benitier in less than 24hrs when everything was already booked up for that day. Anoop went above and beyond to ensure we had that excursion on our last day making calls to look for spaces and managed to find us a space.

This is by all means a 5 star resort in Mauritius given its excellent location and fantastic service. I feel that a lot of criticism levied at the hotel is unfair, in a place like Mauritius it is frankly quite unrealistic to expect lightening fast service, super modern infrastructure and the variety of food options and abundance of restaurants like in a 5 star resort in Dubai for example. If you want that then maybe you can go to a place like LUX, St Regis or Four Seasons or just don't come to Mauritius. Seeing that the resort is continuing to renovate, I can only say that your experience will be even better than mine and I thoroughly recommend the resort if you are looking for an authentic Mauritian experience.

Stayed for 1 night with my sisters. Room is large with daily bottled water, safe deposit box, slippers, hairdryer, iron and ironing board. EU and UK wall socket. The buffet food was adequate and good. The Saturday band played a good variety of 70s and 80s music. The hotel is kids friendly. Arvesh (reception) was very welcoming.

This hotel caters for all ages with an adult pool set away from the kids pool and large pool area. Long beach walks can be taken and the grounds are well maintained. The Mercado restaurant serves some amazing food and caters for many tastes. Bar Bleu is a place to relax and play cards or have fun with music on offer each evening and all the staff are so very friendly. In fact right from the front of reception to the restaurants, bars, pools and cleaning facilities I can honestly say that I did not meet a rude staff member. With free water sports facilities readily available, the paddle boarding & snorkelling is great with a variety of fish to be seen. For those who don't wish to snorkel or dive, a glass bottom boat can be taken twice daily. I look forward to returning and more adventures in this hotel and its surrounding area.

Lovely beach, but sand every where, all paths covered in it, so it gets everywhere, in your shoes, sandals and rooms from which the lovely staff try their best to keep it out, taking up their valuable cleaning time. They need to sweep all the sand up and put it back on the beach where it belongs.
The place is abound with wildlife both inside and out. Birds have full access inside and out of the main dining hall, including full access to prepared food areas, leaving their calling cards on tables and chair backs, not a welcoming sight or very good for hygiene.
Staff overall are brilliant, but this is not good enough on it's own.
Located on the Southwest coast of Mauritius, the resort has no access to public transport or nearby villages, so you are stuck unless taking an expensive tour. Car hire is essential for freedom of movement (They drive on the left)
Finally the mosquito's cannot be seen or heard and their bites are not nice, so be prepared.

Dear Q9803XFstuarts, Thank you for your review and feedback. We are please to confirm we working on going to make the resort look fresher. For the birds "freely" is not really right we do have installed some system and managed to have no more pigeons and reduce other birds and looking now to also remove all sparrows without harming them too . We hope we can see you back in the future and show you our changes we would have done. Warm Regards Cyrille Carmona General Manager

Great location, but service very hit and miss: some people lovely, others sullen, unfriendly, unhelpful and rude. Our junior suite was massive, but a bit falling apart: we had problems with doors, aircon, shower, curtains constantly falling down, toilet...Room service an absolute rip-off, and restaurants way too expensive for the quality of food provided. Worth getting a junior suite though, for access to the Plantation Club, where one can get à la carte breakfast, complimentary high tea from 3-4pm, and complimentary cocktails from 5-6pm.

Website pictures of the rooms are far better as in reality. Kevin took care of this issue professionally by offering a new room. Quite easy task when occupancy rate is at 15% but he followed up closely with us. Thanks again.
The resort itself is in a light miserable condition. It has nothing to do with international 5* hotels we have been staying in. And its not all about money. There are things that could be easily cleaned without spending too much money. Retrieving coffee cup on one of the pathways took more than 3 days (eg). Facades could have been jet washed easily during the nearly two year closure due to Covid. Small things in the room could have been repaired (loose wall bolts, cracked concrete sections from the balcony above us). Instead of doing this the focus have been on optimising food / drink experience. According to Desire Outrigger now better performs in price and variaty of meals vs other hotels on the south coast. Probably waste of time. There is no hotel guest going to eat or to drink at neighbor resorts .... but what remains in the guests head is the visible impression when eg. you stroll along the beach. Neighbor resorts had the beach cleaned, the sunbeds were definitely newer and had new rests on .... nothing at all at Outrigger.
The really friendly staff saved Outrigger of getting even less *-recommendation. I would to highlight among many more Kunal, Engelique, Geraldine, Xavier, Kevish and Deshika.
There are much more managment recommendations I could give but this would be far off. As usual - its all about management, not only the local one but also the upper management level at the Singha Hospitality Group. Maybe worth to talk to Stefano Ruzza on advising him on new approaches ...

I have noted on the shortfalls in following the procedure about cleaning the areas regularly and will see with the team that we reinforce this matter. Relishing food at the buffet at Mercado Restaurant along a good service. Hats off for the great coordination and team work noticed while trying to catch up for the damages caused by the heavy rainfall. It’s great that the staff did not make the guests face any inconvenience while having breakfast.
We could feel the comfort of the room was neglected despite the numerous efforts of Arvesh to have someone to check on the language issue on the TV and the absence of the turndown service was noticeable.
Nitish from the reception was very welcoming compared to his managers: Kevin and Roddy (names provided by the hotel staff upon request) who are both disrespectful, impudent and have no sense of customer service or even guest relations. “I do not know Madame who called you” uttered in a pissed off manner, is in no way a response one would expect especially from a hotel’s rooms division manager. The master of all is Kevin from the reception who seems to be an expert at looking down on the guest while speaking in a very rude and impolite way. His behaviour and response are what accentuated the situation whereby my spa appointment was rescheduled without any prior communication.
I had a really good massage at the Navasana Spa on Friday with the therapist named Nilesh if I’m not wrong 😑 along a great chat and advise from Anabelle. However, I deeply regret this poor communication issue that occurred on the second day.
Outrigger Mauritius did not make us feel either valued or appreciated!!!

Once at the hotel, we were warmly welcomed by the staffs and especially Akash. We had a site visit of the hotel and thorough explanation of pretty much everything by him.

There was a variety of food which was delicious for dinner, breakfast and lunch. I can still feel the taste of that divine bbq octopus at the Edgewater Restaurant.

Really loved the architecture and decor of the Mercado Restaurant and its attached winery. Liked the way how birds were flying in the restaurant in the morning. The Navasana Spa looked like a temple in the main room, the place felt mystical.

The hotel felt spacious overall. The room was a cosy and comfortable place to stay. Was just surprised that there was no door to the bathroom. The room was located on the east wing and we got good privacy while we could watch the kids swimming pool. We could enjoy contemporary live music at night at the pool bar.

The staffs at the boat area were really nice to us especially the lady at the counter.

Our stay was more like a 6 star hotel thanks to the assistance and care of Akash. We were escorted out again by him for a warm farewell. Would definitely go there again.

It was my first time at Outrigger, after many recommendations. I was pretty satisfied overall. Check-in was quick and each and every staff that I came across was very cheerful and pleasant. But, while checking out, I expected the front office staffs to be more opened and converse with us, about our stay, etc. But they simply said bye.

(1) The drinks at the bar were up to the level of a 5 stars hotel. The beverage list was very lengthy.
(2) Foodwise, there was different type of cuisine, like Indian, Italian and Chinese. But, the variety for each cuisine was very limited. So they can add few more dishes.
(3) Room was nice, with dimmed lights and a beautiful bathtub. AC was working correctly, hot and cold water was running properly.
(4) You have a minibar in the room, so anytime you can have a drink if you don't want to go to the bar
(5) Entertainment-wise, we had a blast. We enjoyed the Mauritian sega at night.
(6) The pool was also great and I don't know if it's a temperature-controlled pool, but the water was always warm and relaxing to dive in.
(7) Tea time was great. A variety of snacks and sweet cakes.
(8) The hotel should focus more on the exterior aspect, like trimming the bushes, cleaning the pool near the Mercados resto, as the water looked disgusting and not appealing to the eyes.

So, overall, I would highly recommend friends and relatives, if the same service standard is kept or enhanced. Thank you, Each and Every member of Outrigger who contributed to this memorable stay of mine.

This is a beautiful and busy resort but unfortunately in dire need of maintenance and renovation and therefore I would not say this is a 5 star resort anymore.

We checked in after 9pm and had to call out maintenance staff 3 times; the curtain half fell off, the sink wouldn't drain properly and the toilet was running water for 20mins after each flush making a horrendous noise. The bed sheets had holes in them and marks on them. At 11.30pm when everything was not fixed we just decided to get through the night.

We spoke to Jarvin in the morning who moved us to a better room which was very much appreciated.

The pools are really nice and the buffet restaurant and seafood restaurant were also really good with good service.

The Plantation club is a beautiful place to relax but the service in the bar is terrible. Afternoon tea is supposedly served between 3pm and 5pm but when we got there at 3pm were told the staff are normally late and get there for 3.30pm. When the staff arrived the afternoon tea had cheese and ham sandwiches and I explained I was vegetarian and could they make just a cheese sandwich, I was told no as it was pre-made. They served exactly the same afternoon everyday with no variance on the cakes at all for our whole stay.

There is normally only one barman regardless of how busy it is and it feels like you are ignored while you are there. When you do order a drink it takes ages to get your drink. This truly is the worst club lounge service I have every experienced.

Desire the Food and Beverage manager came by one day and I spoke to him about the difficulty in trying to get vegetarian food and the repetitiveness, he spoke to his staff and the next day it was not much better but he did come to check with me and ensured something was made for me which was really nice of him. He continued to check I was being looked after which was very much appreciated even though things didn't get much better.

I would not recommend this hotel but would like to thank Jarvin and Desire for everything they done to make our stay more comfortable it was very much appreciated.
