Nestled in the heart of Waikiki, the Halekulani Hotel emerges as a serene sanctuary, lauded by guests for its spacious, modern rooms and breathtaking views. While some guests suggest the decor could use an update, the hotel's atmosphere remains undeniably elegant, complete with live entertainment and an air of sophistication. The service at Halekulani is often described as exceptional, though not without occasional lapses. Its central location is a hit among travelers, as is the meticulous cleanliness that defines the property. Despite some comments about limited beach space, the hotel's luxurious offerings are deemed worth the cost by patrons.

Unlike the chaos and crowds in the other Waikiki hotels, the Halekulani is a beautiful and relaxing place to stay. The 6 night stay was wonderful. The grounds are beautifully maintained. We ate at the Earl's restaurant, House Without a Key, and Orchids and all of them had amazing food and service. The French Le Mer restaurant we did not try and is super expensive. The room we had (1755) had amazing views of Diamondhead and of all the people trying to surf. There is free nightly entertainment at Earl's from 5-10 PM and includes traditional Hawaiian music and the hulu performed by Miss Hawaii and a previous Miss Hawaii/ Miss America/ Miss Universe. They even handed out umbrellas when a short raincloud went overhead.
Parking is expensive , $68 per day plus tax, and cost more than our rental car did. The room itself was large and the bathroom had a tub and a separate shower stall. Maid service was twice per day. There are free coffee pods in the room and water cartons that are supplied each day. After visiting most of the other major hotels along the beach area, the Halekulani is the best. Visit them for yourself and you will see what I mean.

Never have written a hotel review before but the experience we had at the Halekulani was well above any other experience I have had at any resort before that I feel compelled to write a review. Check-in was warm and kind, and when we went up to our room, we were met by some delicious fruits, chocolate covered strawberries and cookies to welcome us. Pool service was wonderful, with attendants to place covers over wonderfully cushioned recliners, and had some snacks at the towel stand. Breakfast buffet at House Without A Key was scrumptious and featured a variety of typical buffet offerings, yummy pastries from their own bakery, and Japanese offerings. Small thoughtful touches like having covering for food at the table to keep birds and flys away if you leave your table to get an additional item from the buffet were appreciated. We had room service for dinner and they bring in a whole table with with complete settings, flower arrangement that they set up for you completely. We ate dinner on our patio and enjoyed the live entertainment from below. We also dined at Orchids and had an exception experience ending with a complementary serving of coconut cake for my birthday. Nightly turndown service was standard, and lovely that they had an tablet which offered controls to room (A/c) and where you could select housekeeping service time and could send in any additional requests. Everything was kept super clean. I've stayed at other 5 star hotels before, but the Halekulani is at another level. Truly an oasis and can't say enough about how much I enjoyed my time there.

The room is the best! ♥
The shower booth and bathtub are separate, the toilet has a door, and even a washlet is installed. In addition, there is a towel cover on the chair in front of the sink, so your butt won't get cold. If you sit there, the closet in the room can be opened from the bathroom side, so you can reach out and take out the hair dryer right away. I'm happy with the little considerations that prevent electrical appliances from touching water. Of course, there is a clothesline, so you can dry your swimsuit quickly. The temperature in the room is always comfortable at the temperature you like, as the bedmaking staff do not touch the temperature you set once. If you set the lights in the room to relaxation mode, you can easily change clothes because you can't see anything from the balcony side, even though it is a glass window. Glass must be something special. Until now, it took twice as long to take a bath when I had someone with me, but sharing the shower and bathtub saves time. I thought that the amount of hot water would be reduced if I used one of the facilities, but the amount of water remains the same, and I can use plenty of hot water in both. The staff came in the morning and evening to refill the water, change the towels, put on and take off the bedspreads, replace the glasses, and do everything they could. On the first day, it was quite hard to pull the clothesline in the bath, as it required a lot of physical strength, but the next day, the facility attendant came right away and fixed it, even though we didn't contact them. The staff are very attentive. My family said that we wouldn't stay at any other hotel next time we come to Hawaii. Even though I've stayed in over 100 hotels overseas, this is the first time I've seen such a thoughtful hotel.

I've been staying there twice a year for the past few years, but this time the atmosphere has changed.
It has been 6 months since the last one, but this time I was surprised at the small staff‼️
Is there too much of this going on?
🌟5 So is it natural that it's a lot?
m
There were three or four porters and dispatch staff at all times to pull up, but only one or two people could get around.
Also, housekeeping staff cleaning 2 people is cleaning 1 person 🧹
Is that what you're talking about? After 2:30 p.m. it was still uncleaned, so I called to urge him, because I had used two rooms and had finished one. However, when we returned in the evening, it was still uncleaned and the turndown service at night had gone ahead 😭
I went out the next day and came back around 4:30 to find both rooms being cleaned! I thought I was going back to the hotel to take a shower. Too bad! 15 minutes to enter the room without permission and wait on the veranda! I thought it was still too late and looked into the room and the staff disappeared without speaking to me 😂
This is one of the most notable past uses of the facility, as it cleans after 4 o'clock on two consecutive days! And more to the point, the first day the bathtub was broken and the drain was pry open with my fingers. I didn't dare to tell you, day four, are you well? I thought, but it's still broken, and more to the point, isn't the bathtub cleaned? Is that what you call dirt originally? The dirt after bathing that the Japanese understand is not cleaned 🤣 (some staff have suspected for several years)
So you don't even notice the plug failure 😓
Bring your own Magiclin Airjet next time 😤
So this time two stars 🌟!!

For four days, with only one restaurant staff by the pool, eating and drinking at the pool was the only place where the service charge was included, but before you knew it, the service charge was also 18% to 20%.
Cutting staff (thinking on their own) Is this a recession?
A labor dispute.
Layoff.
I'm raising the price of my room every year 🤔
I'm going to watch it for another four days.
Maybe they're letting him take the day off first for the Thanksgiving holiday.
A favorable interpretation.
Let's go for it, Halekulani.

We booked 2 nights in a Diamond Head Ocean Prime King Room (Room 1562) including Breakfast. The room overlooked the pool and beach and had a prime view of Diamond Head. Front desk was very quick to correct issues (i.e. I found yellow stains on new slippers) and housekeeping (Japanese ladies) did a very good job tidying and cleaning the room. They had such a friendly and positive attitude so we were sure to tip them. We loved the pool and the dining experience at La Mer for our anniversary dinner was magical. We got the best corner table in the house directly facing the water and the view was right out of a postcard. The service was excellent and the food was pretty good by local standards. Breakfast at Orchids and House Without a Key were fine. Again, they were good by local standards, but the selection and cuisine were not stellar compared with other resorts in Asia and Europe.
Lewers Lounge was a good spot for music but one of the staff came and told us to “please keep it down” when we were not even talking loudly. It’s an odd atmosphere as it’s not a lounge you can do much talking in - the main attraction is the singer. The bar should tell people upon arrival that it’s not a talking bar.

I have been to Hawaii many times and stayed in all sorts of lodging (including Grand Wailea, Marriott Wailea Beach Resort, Sensei Lanai Resort, timeshare at Hilton Hawaiian Village, AirBnb and VRBO) and find that service, accommodation and food do not compare to Asia. However, Halekulani was leagues ABOVE the standard Hawaiian hotel - certainly the best we have stayed at. It comes with a price tag however as rooms here can easily cost 4 figures a night.

Overall, we had a fantastic stay at Halekulani and would definitely come back again. It was a hidden oasis in the heart of Waikiki and we loved that it was quiet and peaceful despite being in tourist central. The hotel had a nice breeze flowing throughout the lobby and the moment we arrived, we felt the calming energy.
It would be nice if the resort added beach loungers as there is no official hotel area on the [public] beach.

We celebrated our anniversary and could not have picked a better place. The front desk upgraded our room to one with a beautiful ocean view. Throughout the room all the little details were thought of, from assorted extra hangers in the closet, to extra water in the refrigerator and shower with a separate large bathtub. We were impressed with the professionalism and courtesy of the staff. The valets, front desk and waitstaff in their restaurants were attentive but not overbearing. The property was also expertly manicured landscaped.

The Christmas decorations were wonderful, and I was able to relax at the pool and private beach.
This time, I stayed in a room with a Diamond Head view. The blue sky, Diamond Head, and the wonderful sea when I entered the room and opened the lattice door are memories that I will never forget. If you spend the day at the pool and take a little sleep in the evening, it is convenient and nice that they make your bed at night, change your towels, and check whether you need ice or not. I ordered French toast for breakfast from room service, and I enjoyed it with my eyes, ears, and tongue as I ate it while listening to the best view and the sound of the waves on the lanai. However, the sun gets stronger as time goes by, so I recommend coming earlier, like at 7 o'clock. Also, I was happy that the hair dryer was a Repronizer, which was a big plus for me. My hair is so smooth! Next time I stay here, I would like to try the spa and meals.

It is said to be a luxury hotel, so I only went for breakfast to check it out. It cost $54. That's just under 8,000 yen. Not worth it at all. Only the view of Diamond Head. There are other hotels like that.
First of all, the exterior looks like a cheap cottage. The cushions and sofas in the lobby are stained and dirty. It doesn't feel luxurious.
The breakfast is better than the average hotel breakfast buffet, but it's still breakfast, so there are no high-end ingredients.
Salad, fruit, smoked salmon, ham and cheese appetizer area.
Bread and French toast.
Sausage, bacon, steamed vegetables, scrambled eggs.
And there is a Japanese food corner, but it only has rice, miso soup, kamaboko, simmered dishes, and cheap omelets that are not homemade.
Yogurt is also in a cup that is often sold.
8000 yen for this is 80% for the view and the location.
The old lady who showed us to our seat was nice, but the waiters and waitresses were rude. Cleanliness, smiles, hospitality, nothing. Any old lady or guy in the area does this. It's like a convenience store clerk.
The worst part is that when you pay, you have to write the tip in front of the person at your table as you sign. Naturally, there's nothing good about it, so I gave him a zero tip, and he got really upset and pointed out the ballpoint pen I was trying to take home as a souvenir.
I wanted to say, "That's why you don't get a tip." It left a bad taste in my mouth.
Not just here, but the worse the customer service, the more upset they are when they don't give a tip. It just ruins everything, so they should just stop giving tips.

Even without that incident, the facility is cheap and dirty, so I can't help but wonder why it's treated as a luxury hotel.

This hotel goes to great lengths make make sure that every little detail has been taken care of. It’s serene and elegant, and the staff are extraordinarily friendly and efficient. The location is incredible, right in Waikiki among the luxury shopping, but when you’re in the hotel grounds you feel like you’re away from the hustle and bustle of the main street.

I visited the Halekulani in Okinawa when I couldn't go abroad because of COVID. The experience was so wonderful that I've always wanted to stay at the Halekulani in Hawaii after COVID is over.

It's been 4 years since I last visited Hawaii in 2019. 4 years ago I didn't care much about travel expenses, but this time, with the weak yen and high prices, the total travel expenses were quite expensive. So I stayed at the Halekulani for the last 2 nights of my stay in Waikiki.

I booked an oceanfront room. The room I was assigned on the day was on the 10th floor, right in the corner of the building, so the lanai was larger than the other rooms. There was still plenty of space even after placing the bed, side table, table and two chairs.

Because it's oceanfront, the room is directly in front of the ocean (however, Diamond Head is blocked by the Sheraton Waikiki next door). The ocean in Hawaii is really beautiful. It's the best view. I could also see the Cattleya pool, the symbol of the Halekulani. It was lit up at night and looked fantastic. The Cattleya flower has beautiful and detailed shadows, and looks like a work of art drawn with computer graphics.

Apparently it underwent a major renovation during the COVID-19 pandemic, so the room was as clean as a new building. As was the case with the Halekulani in Okinawa, the interior was simple yet high-quality, with a warm white theme. I thought it was quite amazing that they could offer such luxurious rooms in Waikiki, where land is scarce. Once you experience this hotel, I feel like you won't be able to choose any other hotel.

There are plenty of beds at the pool, so it's not difficult to secure one. However, the pool area is not high, so you can't look at the ocean while lying on the bed. You can get to the beach right away, but the door won't open without a card key, so even if you just want to go into the ocean, you have to carry the card key with you, which is a drawback. I think if there was a wristband-type key, you could freely go back and forth between the pool area and the beach while wearing it, and then go into the ocean or the pool and swim, but I wonder if they could somehow introduce that.

At the House Without Key, I enjoyed the buffet breakfast. I don't think there are many hotels in Waikiki that have resumed buffet breakfasts yet, but I still prefer a hotel breakfast buffet. I had lots of fruit.

I'd like to stay here again. It also made me want to go to the Halekulani in Okinawa again.

There are shops and places to eat right within walking distance. We didn’t have any issues with that. Btw…..we found a great steak shack right by the hotel. Closer to the Outrigger hotel next to us. It was so good! We gave it five stars because their service is crazy good. Always had fresh towels and room clean each day. Turn down service was an extra plus and do nice. The staff at the hotel are so kind and go out of their way to help with anything you need. Each morning for breakfast they knew our name and always talked to us. The valet service was great too. Always offering us water and talking to us before the car would get there. The pool people walked us to our chairs and made sure we had towels. Checked on us as we sat there enjoying the pool and sunshine. If you want to be spoiled check this place out. It’s probably the best vacation we have ever had!! Hope you enjoy it!

Yes but try to book house without out a key in advance for sunset drinks /dinner. We did this on the morning of the day was dined there. I think if you try to book and aren’t staying in the hotel you need to do so days/weeks in advance.
