Nestled close to Waikiki Beach, the Pacific Monarch Hotel is lauded for its prime location, offering easy access to nearby attractions and stunning ocean views. While some guests find the amenities a bit dated, the rooftop pool and kitchen-equipped rooms are frequently praised. The retro charm of the hotel adds to its clean and comfortable atmosphere, though the city's hustle and bustle can sometimes seep into the quieter sanctuary of the rooms. Despite the occasional noise, the excellent service and overall cleanliness contribute to the hotel being considered a good value by many travelers.

My wife and I stayed at the Pacific Monarch from February 1st to 14th, 2020. We loved it here. Yes, it's not the Hyatt or the Four Seasons, but it has everything you are looking for at a reasonable price. My wife and I are pretty selective about where we stay. This place worked. We had a suite on the 29th floor and would recommend to anyone that they try and get a higher room and an '02' room (any room that ends in 02). Separate bedroom, small living room, full kitchen with stove/oven, M/W double sink. and adequate bathroom. The best of this room however was the Lanai, the deck, the balcony. We could access it from either our bedroom sliding doors or through the living room. It's huge - we had seven people on it. it has a GREAT view of the ocean. It gets morning sun and partial afternoon sun. You can move around to get sun or shade throughout the day. We spent a LOT of time on the lanai. It's also private, you cant hear or see any of your neighbors in the building. We loved this lanai a lot and you will too. Other amenities in the building? Beach towels, nice pool on the roof. Location is about 200 meters from the beach. Staff is excellent. Place was clean and cleaned well daily. We had very good service from Danny and Rose. We'd recommend Pacific Monarch and would stay here again next time we're in Waikiki.

This small studio was the perfect stay for my brother and me. We are in our 60's and the comfortable twin beds with a choice of pillows was great. The short walk to the beach was just right. We stopped at one of the two ABC stores each morning to get lunch items, and spent the day on the beach. The purchase of $30 sand chairs at the store on day one was perfect.

Our first room was right next to the elevator and this was crazy noisy. We asked right away for another room and we were given one with no problem. If they were more booked, this might have been an issue, so we will request NOT to be by elevator when we book again. The front dest staff is uber helpful and friendly. The elevator monitors are too. This was a great, relaxed, unpretentious place to stay, in a good location near the beach. I think all rooms have some sort of view of the beach.

The tiny kitchen was just right for cooking eggs each morning. There was a rice cooker which came in handy when we had restaurant left overs. Also toaster, coffee maker and blender. We mostly ate out, however there were a couple nights we called out for delivery.

The pool was clean and warm, and the spa relaxing. We looked forward to the tidy pool area after the beach each day. The sun shines up on the roof until almost sunset. Really nice breeze and loungers made this a daily ritual. Internet was good both in the room and up at the pool.

We did feel that the $25 daily amenities fee was a little much. For what? Nothing that a regular hotel does not provide. The maid service is only once a week. You can, however, request fresh towels and more shampoo etc. But again, doesn't every hotel offer that without an extra fee?

I hate paying for the fountain in the lobby, but I get it that some find those visuals an essential part of the experience. You won't find that at the Pacific Monarch. The suites are clean, the beds and linens are clean, there is a well equipped kitchen with a full size range/oven, a crock pot toaster, microwave, European size refrigerator, cooking and eating utensils, stoneware plates, bowls, cups, saucers, a coffee maker and dishtowels. We have been there twice; an ocean view suite the first time on the 14th floor and a partial this time on the 22nd. There is a convertible sofa in the living room, a dining table where the family can eat if you choose an ocean view or partial OV suite. There are also smaller studios with smaller appliances but we have never stayed in one; they too seem nice but I imagine are even less expensive. This is an older condo/hotel building with residents, so there are never kids running up and down the hallways at 02:00 in the morning; it's quiet. This time we slept with both the bed room and living room sliding glass doors open and it was wonderful to do so without AC; sleeping in just fresh Hawaii ocean breezes all through the night; wonderful. The lanais, at least for the corner suites are large and airy. the ones for the ocean view suites are very large and all offer great views of some combination of Honolulu, the mountains, Diamond Head, or the ocean and a patio table with chairs for four. It's only two short blocks from Waikiki Beach. Service is friendly and efficient; everyone seems to understand there are myriad other choices you could have made. The internet is password protected and the flat screen TV is local cable; CNN, some rerun channels, QVC, and the like. HBO or maybe STARS would be nice. The PM is set up like a home away from home, remember, people actually live there. It's not fancy but suitable for those who just want great views, clean quarters, a great little kitchen to maybe cook their own breakfast, lunch, or even dinner, or just refrigerate and reheat some restaurant leftovers. It's humble but homey and that's just fine for us when in Honolulu. We have grown to love our stays in the little suites in the Pacific Monarch.

I just stayed here with my partner two nights ago. As another reviewer says, you get what you pay for. For $100 more, you could stay in a place with updated, modern décor with a newer pool and jacuzzi. For $100 less, you could stay in a motel or possibly a youth hostel. So the Pacific Monarch is in that niche right in between. If you have to pay extra to get an oceanfront room on a high floor, it’s probably well worth it. You would get a great view, and I’ve found that the view makes a huge difference in the enjoyment of your hotel stay (I live in Hawaii and have done countless staycations in Waikiki). I did enjoy the lounge on the floor just below the rooftop pool.

As others have mentioned, you have to be extremely rule-abiding with the parking, which costs $30 per night. The front desk clerk makes you read and sign a form with all the rules, she goes over the rules verbally, and there is a big sign in Japanese right where you pay for the parking permit, which I assume lists those rules again. And, there are signs posted around the parking garage saying that you MUST park within the lines, or you will be towed. What else can get your car towed? Placing your parking permit upside down in the windshield! I don’t mean having the slip face the wrong way so that no one can read the information, I mean turning it upside down so that the information shows, but it’s upside down. And of course, if you don’t tape it to the windshield and the slip falls down to a position where it can’t be read – YOU WILL BE TOWED.

As I mentioned, I’ve stayed all over Waikiki, and almost no parking garage has rules this draconian. You can read another reviewer’s horrendous experience after he got his car towed (and his vacation ruined, and you can bet he will be telling everyone he knows about his ordeal). The hotel says the parking is run by “someone else” so they claim no responsibility - zero. That is a cop-out. The hotel could use their influence to contract with a different parking operator or a different tow company. There is no reason they have to be bullied into submission by the parking operators. I almost cancelled our reservation after reading about what happened to the poor guest who had his car towed – how many potential guests are they losing out on because of that one review? It’s pennywise and pound foolish, and not worth the bad publicity. Ease up on the rules, just a little, to be in line with almost every other parking garage in Waikiki.

We booked this room earlier in the year and were very pleased with the location near the beach as well as the view of the beach. We were there for 6 nights. It was too bad that the hotel did not have adequate staff to do some daily clean-up (such as emptying the trash), but we were provided with information about how to handle this ourselves. We appreciated the option of getting clean towels (including beach towels) at the front desk, and the ability to prepare some of our meals in the very adequate kitchen. This was a time and money saver.

It should be illegal how differently this hotel is representing themselves on their website and what you actually get. Our room looked nothing like the pictures- instead it was furnished with mismatched thrift store finds. The sofa bed was stained, and the mattress was a 2 inch piece of cheap foam. My son woke up with bruises each morning from the bed frame poking through the mattress. We did not have the cooktop in the kitchen (however, we were provided with cooking pots, go figure) or a desk in the living area. The carpet in the hallways were worn and dirty. We did not receive beach chairs, tickets to the museum or chilled water as promised in their ads. While I understand that COVID may have changed the way things are handled now, they are still charging the full $25 “resort” fee each day. You also don’t get daily maid service. Again, I understand the limitations currently, but the pricing should reflect this. If I knew how run-down the room would have been beforehand, we would have booked a different hotel.

Booked this hotel day of stay and was pleasantly surprised! Amazing location, 2 blocks from main part of Waikiki Beach and walkable to International Marketplace, Royal Hawaiian Center, shopping, restaurants, etc. If you're looking for a chic/glamorous hotel, this is not the hotel for you. The property is dated and could use some serious renovations (ie carpets were OLD and filthy, old whicker couch/chairs, old artwork on the walls, etc) but if you can look past the 1980s feel, it's a great location and my room (2306) had so much potential! Wrap around windows with a fabulous view of the mountains, city, ocean and partial view of Diamond Head, balcony, full kitchen, dining area, living area and separate bedroom. 2 twin size beds in the room. Staff was pleasant and helpful. They also have cucumber infused water in the lobby area. Doors to elevators require a key, which I appreciated as a solo traveler and made me feel secure. Rooftop pool and jacuzzi with awesome view. :)

The staff were all very nice. I was a bit confused about the hotel when I first arrived. It sits on the corner but there’s no prominent sign you can see when driving by (the name is on the building). I actually drove past it the first time. I like the security of the parking garage (you can only access the garage from one elevator and the rooms from two other elevators) but it does make it a little more difficult for entry/exit. The pool, although small, is nice and the rooftop gets a lot of Sun. I didn’t realize towels were available until I was leaving and saw the towel return. The room was nice and orderly. Having a kitchenette is a nice perk -it was a simple hotel, not fancy. It was a short walk to the beach and just outside of the primary area where the mall is which was a bonus -not too much noise. Rooms on the higher floors have a better view of the beach but the cost increases depending on how high you are. Was worth it for the lower price compared to others and location.

This may be a somewhat rambling and biased because I was at the Pacific Monarch Hotel for my 14 day quarantine during COVID and as soon as it was over, I just wanted out (no fault of the hotel). But, for what it’s worth, here’s my opinion... Overall, nice hotel. The hotel staff was extremely nice and would cater to every request. The hotel itself is a bit dated compared to what I like. If nothing else, the carpeting in the rooms and halls, needs to be replace as they smell old. As with other places in the Waikiki area, you pay a lot for what you get. Be aware of additional high resort and parking fees along with almost 15% state tax (totaling another $85 per day). It is right in the heart of things and two blocks from the beach...that was a plus. There are a lot of homeless people in Waikiki and again, no fault of the hotel, but it is what it is. The Waikiki area is too congested for my preference.

Our Ac was in living room not the main bedroom. Worked good. No noise noticed from other people in rooms. Outside is always noisy!! every hotel about the same in Oahu that we've stayed at. They were awesome about delivery of anything( more towels , sheets) shampoo ECT. If your looking for super quiet may want to stay somewhere out of Waikiki.
