Nestled in the heart of Waikiki, The Laylow, Autograph Collection garners praise for its prime location, with guests reveling in easy access to beaches and local hot spots. The hotel's service is often lauded for being warm and professional, though experiences of inconsistency are noted.
While the unique atmosphere and modern-vintage design charm many, there are remarks about the petite pool and noise levels. Despite the clean and stylish rooms, travelers voice concerns over value, pointing to high fees and questioning the overall cost-benefit ratio.

Being in Waikiki for business, we decided to say at The Laylow due to the reviews and that it was more of a boutique style hotel than many in the area. This is a pretty nice hotel with a “local” feel. We were in other coworkers’ hotels that week and while they had much, much better views from their rooms, their hotels were cold, standard in feel, and lacked personality. Our room was nice and had a small balcony with two chairs and a small table, but with no “view” to speak of. The mattresses leave a lot to be desired. While clean, it sagged in areas and gave no support. The bathroom was spacious and clean. There is a welcome basket in your room. By the elevators on each floor is a cabinet with ice and a tap that dispenses room temperature water, cold water, and carbonated water. We loved this amenity. The pool area is small but nice and serves shave ice from one o’clock to two in the afternoon. One afternoon they even served Mai Tais. There is an area with deck chairs and umbrellas and another with cozy chairs and tables, perfect for reading. The pool area can get crowded and on one afternoon, not only were the kids being obnoxious , the adults were, as well. When you see adults (and I’m talking 30-50 year olds) intentionally throwing water from inside the pool at family members sitting in the deck chairs without consideration to anyone sitting nearby or walking by, you know why the kids were so bad. The hotel did nothing to address this, despite it going on for over 30 minutes. The Hideout restaurant has live music in the evenings (make sure to make reservations) and the waitstaff was friendly. The breakfast servers at the same restaurant ran hot and cold; a few were good, several not so much. The valet parking service was efficient. The front desk personnel were excellent - very friendly, professional, and helpful. Room service varied from very good to “eh,” and I noticed different people on different days, so it varied with the employee. The nighttime traffic noise is bad but that isn’t the hotel’s fault. We found that a constant problem wherever we went in Waikiki on this trip, much of it appeared intentional, and we did not hold that against the hotel. The location is perfect: You are walking distance to the beach, some excellent restaurants, and a crazy-good shave ice kiosk (thank you, front desk receptionist, in telling us to go to this one place!). The Laylow seemed to have more fees than the large hotels the coworkers stayed at but we are still glad we booked here.

I had been in need of a break from work and had mulled a couple properties over in Waikiki that I wanted to do a staycation with --- after a few suggestions from some colleagues and some corresponding "pau hana" gatherings at The Hideout, I felt pretty comfortable knowing that I would be in good hands.
Fast forward to my actual weekend at the Laylow and I was pleasantly rewarded with fantastic hospitality and great energy from start to finish. The valet staff worked quickly to work through the queue of cars arriving --- I was instructed to make my way to reception and greeted with kind smiles and warm hearts by Gaby and Joey who showed me the amenities around the property.
Taking the elevator up to the lobby level was exciting as you start to notice all the thoughtful details that make The Laylow distinctly part of Marriott's Autograph Collection, there are some great details that really standout and immediately make you feel like your in a special place; both in design and uniqueness. I also found that to be true reading the menu and how thoughtful the drink and food selection is, catering to both locals and visitors alike. A quick bathroom stop also showed me that this uniqueness extends beyond the dining room as there is a blend of modernism and vintage throwback design; somehow they don't over do it!
The rooms were a real treat! Every square foot of the room and the furniture pieces are both functional and purposeful all while being carefully curated to present a space that is both homey and fresh. I cannot say that I have an eye for design but I do have a great appreciation for it now that I've stayed at the Laylow.
I've only had a weekend stay but throughout my time, the staff at the cafe, front reception, concierge and most especially the housekeeping staff has been very kind and attentive! I was given some great dining recommendations and tried a few places I had not known of and been to --- incredibly grateful to have been introduced to new places I was not aware of.
My room was always cozy and every time I returned to it from the beach, it continually felt like the place I needed to be!
Thank you much for a great stay!

My now-husband and I got married last month in North Shore and reserved a room block for our close family and friends at The Laylow - we could not be more pleased with our experience!!! Our contact was Yuka and she was extremely professional and helpful the entire process! We were successfully upgraded to a corner suite as the bride and groom and absolutely LOVED our room and the views. We got so many guest compliments on the hotel and their experience --- the rooms are delightfully fun and clean, amazing and generous complimentary welcome baskets, great service, ideal location in Waikiki, and their bar/lounge/restaurant (The Hideout) was an epic spot for our guests to grab a drink or bite to eat and enjoy the views of Waikiki and Oahu! We can't wait to go back and visit - perhaps for our anniversary! - and we are just so grateful that Yuka and The Laylow were so accommodating to all of our needs and wants during the wedding planning/room block reservation process. We can't recommend The Laylow enough --- look no further and book your stay there!

I strongly advise staying away from this hotel. Unfortunately, my experience was marred by several issues that were poorly handled by the staff, reflecting a lack of training and empowerment to address guest concerns effectively.
**Day 1: Dirty and Clogged Shower Drains** Upon arrival, I discovered that the shower in my room was not draining properly, leading to an inch of standing water during use. When I investigated, I found the drain clogged with hair and other debris. This should have been cleaned before my arrival. When i explained this to Kym, she blamed me for not reporting the drain problem earlier, ignoring the fact that it should have been cleaned before I even checked in.
**Day 2: Coffee Mishap** The next day, I ordered two Americanos from the hotel café. Unfortunately, they put the wrong-sized lid on my cup, which resulted in the drink spilling all over me and my car. Upon inspection, it was clear that the hotel was using mismatched lids and cups from different manufacturers. Instead of acknowledging the mistake, the café staff presented a small cup with an oversized lid (not the cup I was given) to suggest that such a spill was impossible.
Day 3: Nighttime Noise and Poor Response: On the last night of my stay, loud music blared outside the hotel at 3 AM, making it impossible to sleep. When I called the night auditor, Kym, she claimed not to hear anything, despite the noise being right outside the hotel. Even after multiple calls, Kym remained unhelpful and admitted she was in the back room, which is why she "heard nothing." Instead of taking proactive steps, such as sending security to address the issue. Kym said the noise did not come from the hotel.
Lack of Accountability: To make matters worse, when I asked for a discount due to the cleanliness for both my rooms, Kym informed me that I would need to speak to a manager in the morning, even though she was the Manager on Duty. When I inquired whether she was empowered to offer compensation, she confirmed she was, but inexplicably insisted that a different manager would need to handle my situation. Deflecting responsibilities.
**Conclusion:** This hotel clearly needs to invest in better staff training and guest services. From dirty bathrooms to careless mistakes and indifferent staff, the experience was frustrating and disappointing. I will not be returning, and I strongly recommend looking elsewhere if you value a clean, restful stay.

Solid hotel if you want to stay in the middle of all the action but wish a few things could be better.
The rooms itself are nice sizes. All the amenities you'd expect - they even include slippers for you! The bed was very average and for some reason the room smelled of food that wouldn't dissipate. Had to buy a candle from ABC Store to help. My room faced a parking garage above an alley, while my colleagues had a nicer view. If you are gonna be in the hotel more, then I'd say it is worth upgrading.
The location is definitely its top draw and can't be beat. Many spots are reachable with a short walk - tons of great restaurants and shopping. But of course, that means it can get rowdy at night, especially on the weekends. Luckily we had a higher floor and away from the main street so that did help a bit.
The pool is nice but small, and by certain time in the afternoon, unfortunately it is completely shaded by the buildings around the area. Like many hotels, you can rent towels to take with you to the beach so that's what we ended up doing most of the time rather than chilling at the pool.
There's a restaurant on the lobby floor, but with so many food options nearby, we mostly ate out of the property, but the coffee bar is a great way to start the day. Baristas there are fast and very friendly!
Parking is via valet (pricey) and because of the layout, when there's several cars waiting, you definitely run the risk of blocking the main street. However, the staff there is friendly and I appreciate them always asking if the car's needed the same day - they will park it for you in the alley so you can get to it quickly.

I looked at various hotels for our first time in Hawaii and settled on the Laylow based on some of the reviews on here. We were not disappointed, this place is great.
From first check-in with Joey who was most welcoming with his infectious smile and great attitude until the day we checked out, the staff were lovely. Shout out to Cassidy in The Hideout for keeping the Mai Tai’s flowing!
The branding and attention to detail makes this place. The welcome basket in the room with the water bottles is a simple idea but sustainable and so convenient to fill from the cold, room temp or sparking water taps in the hallway. I felt the resort fee was value for money with everything in the basket (flip-flops, water bottles, crisps, chocolate and postcards) as well as activities around the hotel (lei making, origami etc). The shave ice and mocktails at the pool were great for a cooldown during the day, they also have spf30 at the pool to keep you from sunburn.
We had room 1515, a corner suite with a balcony on 2 sides. If you are interested in sun on your balcony from first thing in the morning then room 1514 is probably slightly better but that didn’t bother us.
Food in the Hideout was great, as were the cocktails and they do a Happy Hour each day that includes Mai Tai’s.
I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Oahu.

This hotel is in a great location. Close to everything in Waikiki. Amazing staff who are very friendly and adorable, clean rooms! Our housekeeping kept our room so clean. It was impressive! I also loved the small touches like the beach bag souvenir and cute Laylow cups and chocolate bar. A nice touch. The restaurant was good, I had a beautiful breakfast every morning out on the outdoor area and the coffee bar was awesome. You had to buy coffee, it was not free in the lobby, but it was not overpriced and it was really good. They have 100% kona coffee so I didn’t mind that we had to purchase it, especially since the rooms were not overly expensive. Overall, a great experience at this little boutique hotel in the middle of the hustle and bustle. Fun tip- there’s a really popular udon noodle place, and a good seafood place called Paia right by the hotel. Check those out for some good local food!

I arrived in mid April 2024 early check in with the manager Ashley she was very welcoming. I informed Ashley I had to do some work emails before I head to the beach and she let me do early check in at 10am. I had a top floor room 1503, my room was king bed and very spacious. I loved the decor and the bed was very comfortable. The bath room lighting was very warm and the shower wood was modern totally my style.
I used the desk to send some Work emails before I headed to the beach to tan and swim. I have been to Oahu, Hawaii 3 times but this hotel was by far my favorite.
I went to the bar a few times and ever sever was very friendly and the food and drinks are so Delicious. The very bery hibiscus. 🌺 drink was strong but delicious.
I enjoyed breakfast at the hotel was very pleasant and I would definitely recommend trying their Hideout breakfast and dinner.
Please enjoy my pictures and definitely try this hotel and restaurant.

This one night stay in Honolulu was surprisingly a great one. We were headed to NZ so this was intended to be a layover and an opportunity to adjust to some of the time change. Really no expectations! Upon our early arrival at the hotel we were met with Front desk staff that were warm and welcoming. The fact that we were early was not mentioned. Often staff will give you a room, but remind you that they don’t have to. The person who assisted us just discussed our room and ensured we would be happy. Thanks to the day and evening staff. We had a minor issue with our safe - immediately the housekeeping staff called someone up. She repaired it AND was very pleasant and happy to do it. Finally, a huge shout out to Ciena in the restaurant. She was another personable, professional and welcoming staff member. She took the time to answer questions about Hawaii and the culture of the state. She advised on a meal we would enjoy based on what we were looking for and ensured our food came out quickly as we were very tired from travelling. (Get the wagyu burger!! Excellent). Thanks Ciena!
Thanks to this staff for a wonderful stay. It was a great start to our holiday!
