On the down side, the photos on the website were deceiving, the rooms and balconies are more run down then they appear, we never used the balcony as the chairs were rusted and dirty and the plug socket in the kitchen was loose and didn’t look safe. My husband didn’t tell me until a few days later but he had found and disposed of a cockroach in our room on our second night (pest control did come in for planned work on four floors including ours a few days later) but the rooms were cleaned every day.
It was hit and miss as to whether the shower would be hot or not. When waking early for an excursion one day, I had a shower at 5:30 am expecting it would be guaranteed to be hot and it was the coldest one on our whole trip, no hot water at all!
The snack packs were okay, we ate the snack bars but didn’t really touch the cans of juice just because they weren’t really to our taste.
Car parking is expensive at $45 per night, I would recommend if you are hiring a car then look for somewhere that provides you with free parking. We found one local in Waikiki that provided free overnight parking in a multi story across the road, this was just a 5 minute walk from the hotel.
We didn’t use the pool which is more of a plunge pool than a pool big enough for adults to swim in but it’s okay for kids to splash around in. We did use the laundry which was easy enough to use and you can buy soap powder and get change for quarters at the front desk.
Overall, as a couple travelling with no children who just needed somewhere clean and comfortable to sleep that was reasonably priced then this was okay for us.
We hoped for a relatively good deal with compromised living condition, and it proved to be not the case. The 2-double room is so small that there's no table or chair and has no place to sit or turn around. We had no choice but to upgrade to a bigger room with a living space. We ended up paying over $200/night for the advertised rate of $79/night, due to non-refundable first night missed with a whole day delay of the flight, the upgrade fee, resort fee, taxes, and even some unauthorized charges.
The room is so old that the shower is no better than, if not worse than one in a motel. Kitchen is small but could be useful, only that we hardly received anything to cook with. Furniture is aged and some of them are out of shape. The sofa sleeper is almost a piece of junk that caused back pains to even young kids. There's no cleaning service for our 6-night stay and we had to make our beds, exchange towels and dump out trash ourselves every day.
Location is not bad and the front desk staff is generally courteous but had no authority to correct our charges or honor some promotional rates a 3rd party marketing company offered before we checked in. The $25 resort fee was charged for maybe limited coffee and ice tea in the lobby (we got some 2 days out of 6 days), and a small snack bag that is limited to 1 per room per day (we got 4 vouchers but received only 1 on the last day without realizing it cannot be redeemed at the same time).
I selected this hotel because it was pet friendly as my dog needs a break from the fireworks too. I believe the pet fee was $35 per night. The room rate was the lowest available for this "premium" night compared to all the other pet friendly hotels in Waikiki.
I was not expecting luxurious accommodations, just a clean and quiet place where we could spend the night. That is exactly what I got. The room was at the front of the hotel so we could hear some of the street noise, but nothing excessive. If that would bother you, maybe request a room at the back of the hotel. The A/C was working so good that we had to turn it down at one point, it was too cold. We had a "1 bedroom" room. It had a king size bed in a separate bedroom and 2 full beds in the main room. Enough space for 3 of us and the dog. There was a small refrigerator that was large enough to fit drinks and some take out food, microwave and a K cup machine. The bathroom had a narrow shower stall only, no tub. The decor was dated, but everything was neat and clean. There is a pool on the ground floor, but we didn't use it. There was complimentary coffee and iced tea during the day in the lobby. The afternoon was pretty busy so there was a wait at the 2 elevators, which seemed to be old and a little slow, but functional. All the employees we encountered were very friendly and professional.
The location is in an area that is a short walk to restaurants, bars and shopping, also right on the bus line. The beach is close enough to walk, but not if you are carrying lots of stuff with you, like chairs and coolers. We had a special offer to prepay for parking which gave us a $10 discount. Normal parking rate is $45. Pretty standard in Waikiki. We got the aloha snack pack the next morning, it had two fruit drinks, some granola bars and some other small snacks. I did stop in to the Lava Tube restaurant on the ground floor for a couple of Mai Tai's after dinner, the drinks were great and the employees attentive.
I would stay here again if I am inclined to do so, but I like to spread the wealth and stay in different pet friendly hotels every New Year's eve. But I would recommend staying here because the room rates are probably some of the lowest year round and if you don't mind a hotel with basic (but adequate) accommodations. One idea I like to do when on vacation is stay in a lower rate hotel like this one for most nights of the stay and splurge on the last 1 or 2 nights at a higher end hotel, just to end the vacation on a high note.
It was nice to see coffee and drinking water at the front desk and coffee making facilities in the rooms.
We had a stove in the room, so we also had a pot and a kettle to warm up.
However, all three nights I contacted the front desk because there was no hot water in the shower, but it was disappointing that it did not improve.
The location is close to the International Market and Marugame Udon, and I would like to stay there again as there are many other shops conveniently.
