Detailed Reviews
October 2024
This was a special occasion trip of three nights at Deer Crest Resort. We arrived after the office closed (at 6:00 pm) but the room key and information sheet were available to us in a prearranged location. The room was very spacious and clean, with ample hanging and drawer space for clothing. There were also a small coffee maker, microwave, fridge, TV and DVD player. The queen beds were comfortable, and there were toiletries and four "sets" of towels in the somewhat small, but perfectly adequate, bathroom. Water was dependably hot when needed.
The staff kindly recognized the special occasion with a gift in our room upon our arrival.
The 'office' had s'mores kits, microwaveable popcorn, DVDs, area information, and other items for guests. The owners/staff were helpful and accommodating.
The benefits of an adults only, no smoking lodging: quiet and fresh air!
The hot tub was out of service, waiting on repairs.
Each morning there were several very large turkeys on the property and across the river.
As others have noted, it is somewhat dated - but the staff, beautiful riverside location, comfort, and convenience to Estes Park's downtown and RMNP make it a great place to stay.
Surely you're not traveling to Estes Park/Rocky Mountains to remain in your lodging, are you?

We will definitely return to the riverfront waterfall king room at Deer Crest Resort. The room was clean, quiet, and the balcony was a perfect place to relax. While the property is older, it has been well maintained and the landscaping makes it a mecca for hummingbirds. Its location on the Fall River Road removes the property from the heavy traffic and crowds of other lodgings in Estes Park.

Visited Estes Park in September 2024 to explore and hike in the Rocky Mountains and staying at Deer Crest Resort was the absolute best decision! The location was minutes away from one of the Rocky Mountains entrances and it's nearby all of the restaurants and downtown Estes Park. My favorite thing about this resort is the wild Elk that come to graze and rest right on the resort grounds in front of the rooms. It was stunning seeing them and the resort was maintained so beautifully. Thank you to the office for also providing complimentary S'mores packs and microwave popcorn. I stayed in the Fireplace Mini Suite and it was spacious, clean and homey. I would recommend this resort to any friends or family in a heartbeat.

My favorite place in Estes. Have returned year after year (having had to
skip or two in the past 10 years due to surgeries. My “go to” in Estes! Love the location; close to RMNP, downtown, wildlife, all things Estes!!!
I try to go every Fall to memorialize my last vacation with my husband there in 2014. He passed away very unexpectedly, a very short months after. So it’s my retreat to honor him there.
Usually LOVE sitting outside my room watching the multitude of hummingbirds (my favorite) - but this past visit they were gone for the season. 😢
Cherokee and Jeremy were great in setting me up with a handrail in the bathroom since the room wasn’t handicapped accessible. They go above and beyond and I love being there.

The resort is ok, very, very clean, (the housekeepers deserve a raise!) and the grounds are lovely. But that’s the most I can say that was excellent. The bed was comfortable, the furniture lumpy, worn and old looking. The kitchen was well stocked with essential dishes. The outlets wouldn’t hold any of our plugs, and we had to charge everything on top of the refrigerator. No place in the shower to put our stuff except the window sill. Our biggest problem with our room was the fireplace that wouldn’t work. The first day, the nephew came over to help and got it going, did what he could. The next day it wouldn’t work again, so my husband went over and Cherokee (the owner) was there. He explained that we paid extra for a room with a fireplace that doesn’t work, to which Cherokee replied, “It does work and if you don’t like it, you can take your money and leave.” He followed my husband back to the room, accused him of messing with it, (which he did nothing except try to light it with the igniter!). It took him 30 minutes to get it going, while humming some stupid tune while we sat there angry at how he treated my husband. He also admitted that the fix he put in wasn’t the best, so apparently this wasn’t the first time he had trouble with this fireplace. I could overlook the worn appearance and the bad electrical plugs, but I would never recommend a resort to anyone after being treated so nastily. Customer service at its poorest. Maybe he was having a bad day, but it’s no excuse for such bad behavior to a customer who paid a lot of money for a week stay and expected things to work as advertised.

I am sorry that you did not like your stay or the room. All of the items that you are referencing we have not had anyone say was an issue. We can address these. Thank you for the input. When your husband came in he was demanding and rude. I did not say anything to him except that if he was that upset that we would return your money and he was free to leave. When i went over to the room to figure out the fireplace(that is all that was said to me was any issue) there was pliers on the front mantel and the gas valve had been removed. Your husband admitted that he was trying to make it work. If there is ever an issue we are to be made aware before taking it upon yourself to do anything. If it were me in your house doing it you would feel the same. The issue was fixed in less than 10 min and i was humming a song along with talking with you and your husband. I am sorry again that you did not like your room. I gave your husband, after being demanding and rude to me and the two employees standing in the office: the option of RETURNING your money. Unfortunately just like on trip advisor there is always two sides to the story You were not in the office when he came in. Again if you were not happy with the room that you did not pay extra for (You chose the room at our normal rate) we would have tried our best to make you as happy as we could. The fireplace once i put it back together worked the remainder of your stay. We wish you the best and again are sorry that you did not like the room. You can attract more bees with honey and not vinegar Cherokee

After looking at several options online we chose Deer Crest because among its best offerings were adults only and smoke free. We had an amazing stay from beginning to end. The location is close enough to town to be convenient but far enough away to feel remote. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The Bear Den suite was cozy and rustic and while we didn’t see any bears, there was plenty of other wildlife particularly the elk who greeted us just feet from our door and the rabbits, chipmunks and hummingbirds that made there homes nearby. Highly recommended and will stay on our list of favorite couples getaways.

My wife and I stayed at Deer Crest Resort during our stay in Estes Park and will definitely be returning in the future. Everything about our stay was above and beyond, which starts with the awesome, personable and hard-working owners, Cherokee and Nicole. It's easy to see the effort they put into maintaining the property and ensuring their guests have a great experience. We interacted with them on a regular basis and appreciated all they did to make our stay a fantastic one. Although hard to choose our favorite part of the property itself, we frequented the awesome patio multiple times a day. It's a perfect, serene oasis for enjoying your morning coffee or relaxing by the fire pit and roasting some (free) smores in the evening. The property is located adjacent to a creek and there's a nice lawn space to sit alongside the creek and relax. The rooms are charming and well kept/clean with everything you need (toiletries, stove, dishes/silverware, toaster, cups, fridge, microwave, stove, etc.). All rooms are on or a short distance away from the Creek so you really can't go wrong picking any of the rooms. We opted for the Fireside suite so we could enjoy a cozy fire in our room. We found the location of the resort to be perfect as well and close to a RMNP entrance. It's a short drive to most things in Estes Park, including downtown, but far enough away from the crowds to enjoy some peace and quiet. There are some other awesome bonuses such as complimentary popcorn and DVDs for use. We literally can't say enough good things about this place. Stay here! You won't be disappointed. Can't imagine our stay being better anywhere else and frankly, don't care to attempt to find out. We are looking forward to our trip back.

I have been going to this wonderful resort for at least 6 or 7 years. I wrote a review back in 2016 and it is all still true. The rooms are clean and I love the new bed spreads which gave a fresh look to the room. You can always count on the owners and staff to be gracious, polite and helpful. The little extras they provide may go unnoticed by some, but since I travel a bit for work I compare facilities a lot. By far the best place in Estes Park to stay for comfort, safety, pricing and convenience. If you are lucky you will have your own private show of the Elk right below the balcony level of your room. Being a single woman feeling safe in a location is extremely important to me. I feel like I am home with family whenever I stay here. The owners and staff will come out to make sure guests are safe when the wildlife is on their property. I travel to Estes 2-3 times a year and always stay at Deer Crest. Thanks for keeping the property clean, maintained and safe for all of your guests.

Whether travelling with friends or by myself, Deer Crest provides the perfect setting for your stay in Estes Park. Located within 5 minutes to Rocky Mountain Park and 1 minute from downtown. You can hear the mesmerizing sounds of the river on the property, watch the elk that are frequent visitors from your door, observe the multiple birds and the beautifully landscaped grounds. The owners provide snacks like popcorn, S'mores fixings, great movies you can take to your room. It is so clean and comfortable. Deer Crest owners and employees do anything they can to make sure your visit is perfect, offering great suggestions on restaurants, events, shopping, etc. I always feel like I am staying with family, and wouldn't dream of going anywhere else.

My husband and I stayed at the Deer Crest Resort for 4 nights. What an amazing resort! The owners and staff take great care of the property, from the beautiful flowers to the cleanliness of the room. We stayed in the Bear Den Suite, and it was perfect. This is a huge room with lots of space (like a small apartment) that includes a kitchen area with a full size fridge, microwave and two burner stove top. This suite was perfect for us, as it allowed my early rising husband to be up without disturbing me while sleeping in a bit, that's how much room we had! The suite was also so clean, including the floors, just great attention to detail by the housekeeping staff. This resort is right on Fall River, so evenings sitting outside and watching the many hummingbirds is a must. Beautiful place, we will be back next year!

All our room doors face outside. There is no common area. As far as service, we would normally go in and tidy the room with mask and gloves. However we leave it to our guest if they wish to have it. If not you can always come to the office and get replacement towels ect.
Hope this helps

Hello,
All of our rooms are pretty quiet, as we are adults only. Everyone in party to be 18 and older. And non smoking.
Of 101-104 on the lower level, perhaps 103-104 might be the quietest and popular with return guests. Of 201-204, upper level, perhaps 202-204 the quietest and popular with return guests.
Because there is concrete between those floors, you rarely here anyone above you.
Hope that helps. And we hope to have you.
Regards, Carrie and Ken
